Hatcher Suffers Eye Injury

Teri Hatcher suffered an eye injury Tuesday when a light bulb exploded during filming for Desperate Housewives. The 41-year-old is now sporting a patch over her right eye after having a shard of glass removed - and she will not be able to resume shooting the hit TV show until the injury heals. She says, "Glass lodged in my right eye and proceeded to scratch my cornea. I was taken to a wonderful eye doctor, and am now wearing a most glamorous eye patch over the right half of my face. I like to look at the positive, and the good news is the cornea is the fastest healing tissue in the body. I'm in some pain, but trying to see the humor in the oddity of it all. No one was at fault." Hatcher hopes to be back at work in two days.

Abrams Slams 'Star Trek' Rumors

Mission: Impossible III director J.J. Abrams is hitting back at unauthorized reports he is directing the next Star Trek movie. The Alias creator is furious the news was released prematurely and is also upset that key details regarding the storyline were incorrectly reported. He explains to Empire online, "The whole thing was reported entirely without our cooperation. People learned that I was producing a Star Trek film, that I had an option to direct it, they hear rumors of what the thing was going to be and ran with a story that is not entirely accurate." Last week, Hollywood trade paper Variety, reported Abrams was on board and that the film would center on the early days of Captain James T. Kirk and Spock and that Philip Seymour Hoffman was in talks to play the ship's doctor. Abrams won't reveal the true storyline, but hints that it won't feature characters Captain James T. Kirk or Mr. Spock at all, but doesn't rule out bringing some of the original characters back for the new film, adding, "Those characters are so spectacular. I just think that..you know, they could live again."

Jolie Breaks Silence on Relationship with Pitt

Angelina Jolie is finally breaking her silence about her love affair with Brad Pitt, insisting the intense media scrutiny regarding their relationship makes her "giggle." The Mr. And Mrs. Smith star spoke with TV network NBC's Ann Curry for interviews airing on Thursday on Today and Sunday's Dateline, and claims the curiosity of others is "just kind of funny." She explains, "If (Brad) saw this, he would probably understand why I was laughing. Because I just don't know how to address that kind of thing. I don't talk about our - my relationship in public. But we also don't talk about it at home. It's one of those funny things that just happens, and you live your life, and you're a family. But you never actually discuss (it)." The 30-year-old star is currently in Namibia, Africa, where the couple are awaiting the arrival of their newest family member. The Tomb Raider star corrected some media reports that her baby is due as early as next week, reportedly announcing that she is not quite eight months pregnant. The actress also claims that the couple knows the sex of the impending arrival, but declines to reveal what it is. Jolie adds, "My life is very full. I'm very proud when I see my children - already Mad (Maddox), just how he adjusts to different places in the world and different people and his views and the kind of man he's going to be. I'm very lucky."

Rodriguez Blames Steroids for Bad Behavior

Lost star Michelle Rodriguez has blamed her drink driving and subsequent bad behavior on her use of steroids. The star was sentenced to serve five days in a Hawaiian jail Tuesday, after pleading guilty to a drink driving charge. The actress insisted in court the steroid injections she had been taking twice monthly to treat allergies to "dust and cockroach resin" made her "manic." She developed the allergies upon arriving in Hawaii last year, where she films her hit TV show. During her December arrest for drink driving in Hawaii, she screamed and yelled at officers, at one point daring them to "put a gun to my head and shoot me." She had to be carried into the police station because she sat down in the station garage and refused to stand up, according to a police source. She said in court, "I wasn't right in my head. None of that verbal behavior was directed towards them. It was directed towards myself." About her arrest, she said, "I personally am thankful that I was stopped because of the fact that I didn't acknowledge my own behavior and how sporadic it was until all hell broke loose in my life." While in court, Rodriguez also asked the judge to take into consideration that she only got her driver's license seven years ago, so she could do a "car racing movie" and that "all of my driving experience started and was acquired from a car racing school." The actress claims she's "lost everything" because of her drunken driving arrest and had to sell her house and car to help pay for legal costs. When asked why she chose jail time over 240 hours of community service, she said, "I kind of have to go back to my life, go back to making some money. This sort of gave me a hard hit."

Copperfield Robbed at Gunpoint

Magician David Copperfield and two female assistants were robbed at gunpoint on Sunday night, after a performance in West Palm Beach, Florida. At 11:15pm, the illusionist and his assistants, Cathy Daly and Mia Volmut, were walking back to their tour bus when a black car pulled up beside them. According to a statement issued by Copperfield's representative, "At first we thought they were just more people wanting autographs. They told us to give them money and our stuff. At that point we realized that there were guns in our face." His assistants handed over money, plane tickets and other various items. Copperfield turned his pockets inside out to show he had nothing on him - a sleight of hand by the illusionist, who later showed police he was carrying a passport, wallet and cell phone. As the assailants drove away, Copperfield and Daly took down the car's license plate numbers and called the police. Officers quickly arrived on the scene and captured the suspects, who were later positively identified by the victims. Police say four teenagers were arrested, charged with armed robbery and held without bond and all stolen property was recovered. Copperfield's statement added, "I look forward to coming back to Palm Beach in the future, knowing that crime can happen anywhere, but from what I witnessed from the officers that night, we were lucky to be in Palm Beach when it did happen."

Abdul Denies Seacrest Feud

American Idol judge Paula Abdul has rubbished host Ryan Seacrest's claims the pair are embroiled in a bitter feud, insisting "there's nothing but love" on the set of the TV talent show. The former pop star rejects Seacrest's claims she refuses to talk to him when the cameras stop rolling, insisting the claim is ludicrous. The 43-year-old says, "Reports of a feud are ridiculous. We are one funny dysfunctional family. There's nothing but love." Tuesday Seacrest was reported as saying, "It's awkward. I don't know what the deal is. It's very awkward. You know, I walked past her dressing room the other day and there was a group of people gathered in front of the door, so I can't even talk to her. Simon and I go back and forth with each other, but it's in a different way." Stories of onset tension originated when Seacrest appeared on TV show The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and intimated Abdul was a heavy drinker. When Abdul appeared on the same show earlier this month, she hit back, sniping about his rumored romance with Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher: "He only kisses the mirror, and honestly, do you think Teri Hatcher is that desperate of a housewife?"

Spears Fires Nanny

Pop star Britney Spears has fired her child's minder after a string of press reports questioned her parenting skills. The singer and her husband Kevin Federline received a visit from Department Of Children And Family Services (DCFS) officials after Spears took her son Sean Preston to hospital when he reportedly fell out of his high chair. In February, the department also looked into claims Spears was driving with her son on her lap and not in a mandatory car seat. But the singer is so determined to prove skeptics wrong she has reportedly sacked her nanny and given up a host of engagements - including her brother Bryan's birthday party - to stay at home with her son. A friend tells American magazine In Touch, "She wanted to be a mother and thought she could snap her fingers and be the perfect mom. But Britney is learning the hard way that being a good mother is something you always have to work at."

Actress Quits Play Before Suing Baldwin

Alec Baldwin's latest co-star Jan Maxwell has quit the New York production of Entertaining Mr Sloane, before launching a lawsuit against the Hollywood star. Maxwell quit the Roundabout Theatre Company's revival of the Joe Orton play at the Laura Pels Theatre on Sunday and has been replaced by her understudy Barbara Sims. Maxwell's reasons for leaving were detailed in a personal email leaked to the New York Post newspaper on Wednesday. In the email, Maxwell wrote, "The bottom line was my physical safety, mental health and artistic integrity - none of which Roundabout was supporting." The actress claimed the Beetle Juice star put his fist through a wall during an argument about onstage air-conditioning and was "throwing things around with all of us cowering." Her agent Sheldon Lubliner says, "Ms. Maxwell has nothing to add to what has already been written about this incident. She regrets that a personal email found its way to the press." Maxwell filed legal papers in New York this week, alleging the actor created an "unhealthy and oppressive situation onstage and off." In his defense, Baldwin says, "(The actress) has been unhappy in the play from the beginning for reasons that only Jan's doctor knows." In response to Maxwell's claims, the Roundabout Theatre Company issued a statement, saying, "Mr. Baldwin has been totally professional in all dealings with the company and management throughout the engagement of Entertaining Mr. Sloane and we are delighted to have him in the show. After Ms. Maxwell made it clear that she did not want to stay, Roundabout decided for the benefit of the entire Sloane company to let her know that she need not return to the production (of course receiving payment for the notice period of her contract) which she gladly accepted."

Elton John Musical Panned

Sir Elton John's troubled musical Lestat has been panned by critics for a second time - despite 80 per cent of the show being totally overhauled for its Broadway, New York City, debut Tuesday night. The stage show, based on the character from Anne Rice's novel Interview With The Vampire, initially premiered in San Francisco but was quickly axed after a string of damning reviews. John and songwriting partner Bernie Taupin hoped an extensive re-write would ensure its Broadway success but it was last night declared a lost cause when it opened at the Palace Theater. The New York Times call the show "a musical sleeping pill" while industry newspaper Variety slam the performance as "beyond rescue." John, who has previously contributed to hit stage shows Billy Elliot and The Lion King, said, "I'd be an absolute liar if I said I'm not nervous about it being a flop. All I know is that we've done the best we can."

Richards Told Locklear of Her Love for Sambora

Actress Denise Richards reportedly called a summit meeting with longtime pal and neighbor Heather Locklear to reveal she was in love with the latter's estranged husband. The Wild Things star, who is in the middle of a bitter divorce from Charlie Sheen, met up with Locklear days before going public with her Richie Sambora romance, according to US publication In Touch. Hollywood gossips claim the Sambora/Richards romance has ended the friendship between the two actresses, who spent New Year's Eve together at a concert - without their husbands. The publication also claims Richards may have been instrumental in prompting Locklear to divorce her husband after 11 years of marriage. A friend tells In touch, "She was the one who told Heather to file for divorce." Locklear and Richards first became friends in 2001 when the former Bond girl joined Sheen and Locklear in a Spin City episode. Last year, Denise was one of just six women Heather invited to share her 44th birthday celebration at restaurant Koi in Los Angeles. The two actresses are set for an awkward time of it in the coming weeks and months - they are neighbors in Westlake Village, California.
