Beckinsale Joins 'Wonder Woman' Race

Kate Beckinsale has reportedly joined the race to play Wonder Woman in Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon's upcoming comic book movie. The British actress is in negotiations with Whedon, according to movie gossip website joblo.com. Insiders claim Whedon is "very happy" with Beckinsale and confirmed last week that production on his highly anticipated movie adaptation of the popular comic book series will begin filming in early September. Buffy stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Charisma Carpenter, and teen queen Lindsay Lohan have been linked to the coveted role - which was played on TV by Lynda Carter. Former hot favorite Carpenter even remarked she was putting off having a second baby in the hope of landing the dream role. She recently told a reporter, "I'd like to (have another baby) eventually, but I want Wonder Woman right now. I'm not holding my breath, but I'm crossing my fingers and toes and praying."

Cruise and Holmes to Wed This Summer

Tom Cruise has told Germany's top tabloid that he and Katie Holmes will wed this summer, after the birth of their baby and the release of his new movie, Mission: Impossible III. Cruise was in Germany to promote the film and appeared on wacky TV show Wetten Dass... He told show host Thomas Gottschalk that two pilots were on standby to fly him back to America if his pregnant fiancee went into labor. Then, during an interview with today's Bild magazine, Cruise laughed off reports the couple was about to split, confirming that he and Holmes plan to wed in the coming months. He said, "First the baby, then the film. Then, in summer, we want to get married. I won't let this woman get away." Mission: Impossible III will be released in the U.S. on May 5th. The couple will celebrate their first engagement anniversary in June.

Prince to Perform on 'American Idol'?

Pop superstar Prince will reportedly appear on American Idol to both coach contestants and perform on the hit TV series - in a bid to maintain high album sales. The notoriously shy star has just released his latest LP, 3121, which debuted at the top of the Us Billboard chart. According to PageSix.com, executives from Prince's record company convinced him to appear on the show to keep the album at the top of the charts, after noting a huge spike in album sales when Barry Manilow appeared on the program earlier this year. According to one source, "It wasn't easy though because Prince apparently hates the show and has never even watched it."

Miss America Gets Real

The Miss America pageant is set to become a seven-episode reality show in an effort to boost TV ratings. For the first time in the competition's 85-year history viewers will vote for the contestants based on a seven-part reality TV series, "Finding Miss America." Contestants will live together and compete in preliminary competitions on the show. Eight of the 15 top finalists will be selected from the reality series, which will be aired next January.

Campbell 'Spat in Guard's Face'

Fiery supermodel Naomi Campbell has been embroiled in another assault wrangle after allegations she spat in the face of a security guard at a U2 concert in New York late last year. The 35-year-old was a guest of her ex-fiance, U2 bassist Adam Clayton at the Madison Square Garden gig when she also allegedly verbally attacked the bouncer, who asked her to get off a barrier separating the band and audience. A police witness tells the New York Daily News, "Campbell told him he was a f**king a**hole and spat in his face." Another source claims Campbell screamed, "Don't you know who I am!". The source adds, "She acted like the spoiled prima donna you read about." No police report was ever filed. The troubled catwalk queen already faces a possible seven years in jail for allegedly throwing a mobile phone at her assistant Ana Scolavino's head last week. She denies the charge.

Stern Threatened by Crazed Fan

New York radio host Howard Stern had a shock on Saturday night, when a crazed fan threatened him on a Manhattan street, before spitting on his girlfriend Beth Ostrosky. The shock jock, 52, and Ostrosky, 33, were walking down Columbus Avenue following a meal at a local restaurant when Gregory Forbes recognized the curly-haired personality and started screaming, "Howard," according to the New York Daily News. Forbes allegedly threatened the couple, before they walked away and got into a nearby cab. However, Forbes quickly followed and spat through the open window into Ostrosky's face. The paper reports Forbes was arrested about 50 minutes later and was arraigned that night on charges of third-degree menacing and second-degree harassment.

Romijn Broke Engagement News to Ex Stamos

Model/actress Rebecca Romijn's ex-husband John Stamos was the first person she told about her plans to wed Jerry O'Connell, because she wanted to make sure he heard the news from her. The X-Men star has become good friends with her ex since they split in 2004 and divorced last year, and she wanted to make sure Stamos wasn't upset by the news. She says, "When I got engaged again I let him know so he heard it from me and not other people, and I think he was grateful for that. John and I certainly don't have a regular relationship, but he's a great, great guy."

Pitt to Build Hotel Resort

Hollywood actor Brad Pitt is in negotiations to build a futuristic hotel resort in Palm Springs, California. The Troy star, has visited German capital Berlin twice this year to discuss the project with architect pals Thomas Willemeit, Wolfram Putz and Lars Krueckeberg, and met them again last weekend in the Dominican Republic to finalize details. The group hopes to develop a $60 million resort in Palm Springs stretching across 215,278 square feet. The lavish complex will boast a vast swimming pool area, open air theater, two restaurants, a bar, a huge spa and an outdoor cinema. Earlier reports speculated Pitt was working with pal George Clooney on his Las Ramblas casino complex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

George and Julia Go Green for Vanity Fair

Hollywood pals George Clooney and Julia Roberts have gone green for the cover of Vanity Fair's upcoming environmental issue. The couple, who played man and wife in Ocean's Eleven, appear alongside environmentalists Al Gore and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in the new photo shoot, in which everyone wears green. Roberts appears like a wood nymph in the garden-themed shot, complete with a leafy crown on her head, while Clooney wears a smart dark green suit. The first Green Issue of Vanity Fair will hit newsstands on April 11th. Clooney's efforts to raise environmental awareness and inspire activism are profiled, along with the work of other stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bette Midler and Edward Norton. In the accompanying feature, Syriana star Clooney announces his plans to create Oil Change, a campaign to educate audiences and reduce dependence on oil. Meanwhile, Clooney has traded in his BMW for an eco-friendly Tango, which features in the photo spread inside the new Vanity Fair.

Sharon Stone to Record an Album?

Sharon Stone is setting her sights on a singing career after her latest film Basic Instinct 2 flopped at the box office last weekend. Stone previously co-wrote "Come Together Now," last November's all-star song for U.S. hurricane relief, and is now aiming for the pop charts herself. After her appearance on a talk show last week, Stone reportedly hit a Manhattan recording studio, and insiders claim the actress has been writing songs with collaborators for the past year.
