Britney: "I Made a Mistake"

Britney Spears has defended her controversial decision to take off through heavy Malibu, California traffic with her baby son on her lap, but accepts she made a mistake. The pop superstar drew criticism from family groups when she drove away from paparazzi with Sean Preston unrestrained on her lap, but she insists she had to speed off for her 'safety.' She says, "It is what it is... I made a mistake. Being put in the situation that I was in it was kinda bad, with the paparazzi." Spears reveals she feared a repeat of a traumatic snapper onslaught last week. She adds, "Last week my mom (and I), we went out and they just kind of were really on us bad, so you do instinctively what you need to do."

Oldman Axed from Harry Potter Film?

Actor Gary Oldman looks unlikely to reprise his role as Sirius Black in the next Harry Potter offering, after reports he has been mysteriously axed from the wizard franchise. Oldman, who has appeared in the last two movies adapted from JK Rowling's popular children's books, has yet to be signed for a third term - even though filming for Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix has already begun. The actor's manager, Douglas Urbanski, tells British newspaper The Sun, "You will be shocked to learn there are no plans for Gary to appear in the film. To say we are puzzled is an understatement at the very least! We are left with no choice but to pursue other employment for him." Vanessa Davis, spokeswoman for production company Warner Brothers, confirms no deal has been reached, but insists there is still time to resolve the confusion. She says, "With any film the priority is confirming the cast who will be on the set from the outset."

Mormons Concerned Over Paxton Polygamy Drama

America's Mormon community is angry about Bill Paxton's new TV drama Big Love, fearing it will spread the myth the religion allows polygamy. The Titanic star plays a Mormon with three wives - played by Chloe Sevigny, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Ginnifer Goodwin - in the HBO show, which hits US TV screens next month. The Mormon Church is concerned the drama will refuel the misconception followers practice multiple marriage, which was banned 116 years ago, reports PageSix.com. Church spokeswoman Kim Farah says, "Polygamy was officially discontinued in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) in 1890. Those groups which continue the practice in Utah and elsewhere have no association (with us) and most of their practitioners have never been among our members. It will be regrettable if this program, by making polygamy the subject of entertainment, minimizes the seriousness of that problem." A statement at the end of Big Love will read: "According to a joint report issued by the Utah and Arizona attorney general's offices, July 2005, 'approximately 20,000 to 40,000 or more people currently practice polygamy in the United States.' The Mormon Church officially banned the practice of polygamy in 1890."

Sexy Assistant Came Between Sambora and Locklear

Richie Sambora's former personal assistant has been named as the woman who came between the rocker and his wife, Heather Locklear. Stephanie Heaton, a 39-year-old brunette, worked for Sambora for seven years before she was fired last year. Heaton allegedly emailed the rocker racy photos - one showing her lying on her side, wearing only fishnet stockings and boots, and another one of her wearing "a baby-doll nightie in a provocative pose," according to America's Star magazine. The publication claims Heaton was fired for getting too close to the star and "acting like Richie's wife, and a mother to his and Heather's daughter, Ava." Locklear believed the couple had severed all ties with Heaton, but recently found out that her husband and his former assistant were speaking on the phone every day, according to the Star.

Lachey Caught in Romance Scandal with Jessica's Best Pal

Nick Lachey's publicists are furiously denying a magazine report suggesting the pop hunk is dating his ex-wife Jessica Simpson's best friend and assistant. Lachey, who has recently been linked romantically to former beauty queen Lizzie Arnold, has now been spotted in the arms of CaCee Cobb, according to US magazine Life & Style. In its new issue, the publication claims the couple was spotted getting cozy at Los Angeles' Level 3 nightclub last week as onlookers gasped in astonishment. One reveler says, "Nick had his arms wrapped around her, and he was kissing her all over the side of her face and neck. Her arms were around him, too. We were watching in total disbelief. We kept waiting for them to rip each other's clothes off." The revelers felt Cobb should not have been cavorting with her best friend's ex in such a public place. One fumes, "There may be nothing going on between them, but it was inappropriate behavior. Everyone was like, 'Wow, what are they thinking?'" But Lachey's representatives are strongly denying rumors of a romance between their client and Cobb, insisting, "Nick and CaCee are friends, that's it."

Winfrey Inks $55 Million Deal

Oprah Winfrey has won a $55 million three-year deal with XM Satellite Radio to launch new channel Oprah And Friends in September. The talk show queen will have her own program covering fitness, health and self-improvement topics with guests that also appear on US TV's The Oprah Winfrey Show. The Washington DC-based business, eager to compete with rival company Sirius' shock jock Howard Stern, has also signed other large contracts such as an 11-year, $650 million deal with America's Major League Baseball.

Anderson To Make Cameo in 'Baywatch' Movie

Hollywood beauty Pamela Anderson will make a cameo appearance in the forthcoming movie spin-off of TV show Baywatch. Anderson, who starred in the lifeguard soap in the early 1990s, is being lined up by David Hasselhoff to appear in the big screen version alongside other Baywatch cast mates, who are yet to be confirmed but could include Carmen Electra, Erika Eleniak, Yasmine Bleeth and Traci Bingham. The movie's director Eli Roth says, "Pammy and the original girls will most likely do cameos in the movie. For the main cast, they want to go with a new crop of hotties. The other producers spoke to Pamela about it and she said she'd love to do a cameo. For me, it just wouldn't be Baywatch without her." Hasselhoff adds, "The film will be set in different locations around the world. There will be lifeguards who are also sent on crime-busting sprees."

Berry Goes Public with Versace Model

Stunning actress Halle Berry went public with her new model boyfriend Gabriel Aubry at a Versace party on Tuesday. The twice-divorced actress has been quietly dating 30-year-old Aubry after they met in December while starring in Versace advertisements. Berry, 39, and Aubry, were inseparable at the re-opening of Donatella Versace's Fifth Avenue boutique in New York City, which was also attended by Jennifer Lopez, Kate Hudson, Nicolas Cage, Benicio Del Toro, Cindy Crawford, Sting and Claire Danes. Since her 2003 split with second husband, soul singer, Eric Benet, Berry has also dated her Their Eyes Were Watching God co-star Michael Ealy.

Binoche Joins Paris Demonstration

French actress Juliette Binoche rallied for the release of an American reporter who is being held hostage in Iraq, by joining demonstrators in Paris, France, this week. The Chocolat star teamed up with dozens of angry protestors at the Place du Trocadero, which overlooks the Eiffel Tower, in a bid to aid Jill Carroll's safe return. The journalist was abducted on January 7. Her kidnappers are calling for the release of all female Iraqi prison detainees. Binoche, 41, says, "We're here to be with her, and to help her in a spiritual way. I think our presence here is a way to sustain the possibility of freedom."

Foxx Just Happy with Nomination

Singer/actor Jamie Foxx doesn't care that he missed out on a Grammy Award Wednesday night - he was thrilled just to be nominated. The star never thought he'd get the chance to even release an album, let alone be nominated in the Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for his single "Creepin." Foxx credits record label boss Clive Davis for giving him the chance to make it to the Grammy ceremony. He says, "I'm happy to be up for nomination. They said that hip-hop killed the R&B singer, Clive Davis said 'no it didn't', Jamie Foxx said 'I'm with you', and there you go."
