Stones Slam Super Bowl Censorship

Veteran rockers The Rolling Stones have blasted the censorship of sexually suggestive lyrics during their Super Bowl half-time show on Sunday night as "absolutely ridiculous" - despite claims from the National Football League the band consented to the move beforehand. Editors turned down Sir Mick Jagger's microphone for risqué lines in hits "Start Me Up" and "Rough Justice" amid fears a repeat of Janet Jackson's infamous wardrobe malfunction at the American football event two years ago would prompt another backlash from family TV audiences. But a spokeswoman for the "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" hitmakers revealed yesterday that the band deemed the measure "absolutely ridiculous and completely unnecessary" and had voiced their opinions to NFL bosses before their three-song set. She added, "The band did the songs they were supposed to do and they sang all the words. There were many, many conversations back and forth and the band clearly was not happy about it." On Monday an NFL spokesman claimed, "We agreed upon it earlier this week. The band were fine with it."

Britney at Center of Child Welfare Probe

The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) are to investigate Britney Spears after pictures were taken of her driving through Malibu, California with her baby son on her lap. Spears claimed she took off without putting her son Sean Preston in his rear babyseat because she was suddenly hounded by paparazzi during a coffee break. But the DCFS and California police officials are taking a very dim view of Spears' decision to drive off with her baby on her lap. It is illegal under California law to drive with a child as young as Sean Preston not restrained in a recognized baby seat, and Britney can expect a $270 fine at the very least. Malibu Deputy Sheriff Mark Winn visited Spears at home yesterday afternoon, to set the wheels in motion for the DCFS investigation. Dcfs officials are refusing to comment about the investigation.

Nervous McAdams Backed Out of Naked Vanity Fair Shoot

Actress Rachel McAdams lost her nerve when she turned up to pose naked for a new Vanity Fair photo spread - and it cost her a spot on the cover of the provocative new Hollywood issue. The Notebook star was invited to pose with British beauty Keira Knightley and Scarlett Johansson by the issue's artistic director, designer Tom Ford, but pulled out at the last minute. Ford explains, "She felt that she'd be fine with it and then she got there and she realized that she really wasn't, and that was fine... She just asked if she could be excluded from the cover." Ford himself replaced McAdams for the Annie Leibovitz cover shoot - and posed with naked Knightley and Johansson, who were also nervous about baring all to the world. He adds, "I said to them, 'When you're 70 you're gonna look back and say, 'Thank God for this picture - look how amazing I was.'"

Witherspoon Paparazzo Mystery Continues

The body of a paparazzo charged with battery over his aggressive efforts to photograph Reese Witherspoon and her children might not be positively identified until Friday. The Los Angeles County coroner's office is examining a body found inside a Brentwood, California home on Sunday, believed to be photographer Todd Wallace. Authorities have been searching for the photographer for nearly two months after he skipped bail upon being charged in the Witherspoon incident. The photographer is known for using multiple aliases and traveling extensively, and officials feared he may have fled the US to Central America. Patrick Ahle, a prosecutor handling the Witherspoon case, said, given Wallace's past history of aliases, he would wait until the photographer's death is confirmed before assuming the deceased man is him. Wallace was arrested in September for allegedly pushing a friend of Witherspoon's and striking a five-year-old child with his camera while the star was visiting Disneyland in California.

Hilton Slapped with Restraining Order

Socialite Paris Hilton has been ordered to stay away from a Los Angeles events planner by the courts, after harassing him with racial slurs and threatening phone calls. The blonde hotel heiress was slapped with a restraining order in Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday, after complaints from promoter Brian Quintana that she'd branded him a "lazy Mexican" and was ruining his business. Quintana, who allegedly introduced Hilton to her current boyfriend Stavros Niarchos, claimed to be the victim of a smear campaign. He told the court a jealous Hilton was paranoid he was trying to persuade pal Niarchos to ditch her in favor of former girlfriend Mary-Kate Olsen. Hilton was absent during the hearing but her spokesman Elliot Mintz said afterwards, "I've known Paris and worked with her, and the kind of person that was described on the stand this afternoon doesn't resemble the woman that I know." Details of the order are still unknown.

Madonna and Mariah Fight for Top Grammy Spot

Pop star Mariah Carey is reportedly furious with producers of the Grammy Awards because they selected Madonna to open the ceremony instead of her. The singer "really wanted to open the show with her choir-backed rendition of 'We Belong Together'," according to the New York Daily News. Madonna reportedly threatened the event's producers, saying she would boycott the show unless they gave her the prime opening spot. They eventually agreed to the diva's demands, despite her album Confessions On A Dance Floor not even being nominated for an award. A source says, "The producers noted that Madonna is a five-time (Grammy) winner," while Carey has only scored two Grammys so far. Madonna will open the show tonight with a dance extravaganza, which also features animated British group Gorillaz. Fueling speculation about the spat, it has emerged that neither Madonna nor Carey will walk the red carpet at tonight's event.

Lopez and Anthony Expecting Baby Girl?

Singer Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony have re-fuelled rumors that they are expecting a child after Lopez recently closed a posh baby store down for a private shopping spree. The singer had exclusive Petit Tresor in Los Angeles shut their doors for 45 minutes last month so she could shop uninterrupted. A source tells MSNBC's The Scoop, "She came with some woman, maybe a relative or an assistant, entered through the back, and bought thousands of dollars worth of things for a baby girl." The store is a favorite with celebrity moms and moms-to-be, including Britney Spears and Katie Holmes. When asked about the star's alleged shopping spree, a spokeswoman for Lopez said, "She's not pregnant." Anthony also made headlines last month when he was seen buying an expensive diaper bag on trendy Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles.

Armstrong Speaks of Crow Heartbreak

Cyclist Lance Armstrong is "torn" that his relationship with Sheryl Crow didn't work out, because she showed him a love he'd never experienced before. The Tour De France star announced his engagement and romance with Crow was over at the weekend and mentioned the split briefly on his satellite radio show on Sunday night, which he closed with a favorite Crow song, "Letter To God." Acknowledging his troubled week, Armstrong said, "Obviously, this week was a rough week for us, but that doesn't change the fact that I think Sheryl is an unbelievable lady, one of the smartest, wisest, most gifted people I've ever met and a person that I can honestly say has shown me a love that I never knew. It's only fair that I say that and it's only fair that we play one of her songs tonight and not run from the situation. I'm torn that it didn't work out but that doesn't matter. Fans of mine are fans of hers and hopefully fans of hers are fans of mine. She's a great lady and it deserves to be that way. So this is my favorite song, which I think we've played before on the show, on her newest record. It's a song called 'Letter To God'." The pair got engaged in September. The seven-time Tour De France champion, who famously overcame testicular cancer, has three children from a previous marriage, while Crow was set to wed for the first time.

Oscars Confusion Over Make-Up Nominees

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith hairdresser Annette Miles is smarting after her name mysteriously disappeared from the list of Oscar nominations last week. Despite the initial nominations press release naming Australian Miles alongside Dave Elsey for Achievement In Make-Up, Miles' name was later replaced in the category by fellow Australian Nikki Gooley. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) said the inclusion of Miles' name was a "an administrative error" after hearing the hairstylist had left the set of the George Lucas sci-fi epic before filming ended. AMPAS director of communications John Pavlik said the change had been made after the voting committee decided Gooley was more deserving of the nomination, but were open to reconsidering Miles' nod, should she submit further material. Miles claims she left the Star Wars set just 10 days before filming ending on "the same day Natalie Portman left."

Close Weds Husband Number Three

Hollywood star Glenn Close is hoping it's third time lucky, after marrying husband number three on Friday. The Fatal Attraction actress, 58, and biotechnology entrepreneur David Shaw wed in a small, private ceremony in Maine, her spokeswoman Catherine Olim confirmed to America's People magazine. Close was previously married to James Marlas and Cabot Wade. She has a 17-year-old daughter Annie from a previous relationship with John Starke.
