Brittany Murphy is planning another wedding after getting engaged to boyfriend Joe Macaluso. The actress accepted the young producer's proposal over Christmas and is now reportedly sporting a Tiffany diamond on her ring finger. The couple met when Murphy was shooting the 2004 romantic comedy Little Black Book, on which Macaluso was working as a production assistant. The actress ended her engagement to Jeff Kwatinetz in 2004.

'Capote' and 'Syriana' Tie at Scripter Awards

The writers of Capote and Syriana tied at the annual University Of Southern California Scripter Award, which honors the year's best film adaptation of a book, novella or short story. Capote, based on the biography of Truman Capote by Gerald Clarke with a screenplay by Dan Futterman, and Syriana, adapted from journalist Robert Baer's book See No Evil with a screenplay by Stephen Gaghan, achieved an equal number of votes at the 17th annual awards. A second ballotting procedure will go ahead to determine the winner, to be announced on Wednesday. Other finalists included author Annie Proulx and screenwriters Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana for Brokeback Mountain, author John Le Carre and writer Jeffrey Caine for The Constant Gardener, and authors John Wagner and Vince Locke and scriptwriter Josh Olson for A History Of Violence. This isn't the first time a tie-breaker has been required - the writing teams for Seabiscuit and Mystic River drew even at the 2004 nominations. A run-off vote resulted in a second tie.

'Beethoven' Child Star Missing

Former child star Joe Pichler is feared dead after his car was discovered containing a suicidal note, on Bainbridge Island, Washington, last Tuesday. The Beethoven's 3rd actor's vehicle was found parked at an intersection above a slender stretch of water called Port Madison Narrows. The former actor, now aged 18, abandoned Hollywood in 2002 to return to his hometown of Bremerton, Washington. The letter expressed his desires to be a "stronger brother" but also asked for his belongings to be bestowed upon his younger sibling. Pichler's mother Kathy says, "We always kept him really grounded. He's always been a regular kid with a job a teenager wouldn't normally have." Kathy is keen to express her gratitude to the 150 citizens who formed a search party on Saturday and thanks the emergency services for their continued support: "I don't know how we're going to thank all these people."

Byrne To Be Bond Girl?

Australian actress Rose Byrne is poised to become Daniel Craig's first ever James Bond girl. There has been much speculation about the identity of Vespa Lynd, 007's love interest in Casino Royale, Craig's first movie as the world's most famous secret agent. A number of famous females including Sienna Miller, Rachael Stirling and Natasha Henstridge have been linked with the movie, most recently Mission: Impossible II star Thandie Newton. But a spokesperson for 26-year-old Byrne insists "it's fairly certain" the brunette will be cast, according to Moviehole.net. Byrne has previously appeared in Troy as Brad Pitt's love interest and Wicker Park.

Thompson Keeps Oscars in the Bathroom

Emma Thompson keeps her two Oscars in her bathroom because she is embarrassed to show them off in a more prominent position in her home. The 46-year-old won the Best Actress Academy Award in 1993 for her role in Howards End and a Best Screenplay statuette for her 1996 Sense And Sensibility script, adapted from Jane Austen's classic novel. She says, "They look far too outre anywhere else. They're great big, gold, shiny things. They're up there tarnishing quietly along with everything else I own, including my body."

Lopez Says Sorry To Simpson with Flowers

Singer Jessica Simpson has received a bouquet of flowers from comedian George Lopez as an apology for embarrassing her at the People's Choice Awards last week. The Latino comic was criticised for poking fun at Simpson's marriage split with Nick Lachey at the event, when he said, "The producers wanted to apologise to Nick Lachey, who could not be here because they didn't need any more seat-fillers," before presenting an award. TV cameras fixed on sullen Simpson as she squirmed in her seat between her parents. Her manager/father Joe has since blasted the comic for his insensitivity. But now all is well - Lopez sent Simpson a huge bouquet of flowers on Friday to apologise for his remarks, according to the singer's father.

Bollywood Star Betrayed By His Bodyguard in Court

Lawyers trying to put Bollywood star Salman Khan behind bars for an alleged hit-and-run incident in Mumbai, India, have been given a boost from the actor's bodyguard. Ravindra Patil, who was travelling with Khan when he crashed into a bakery in September 2002, told a court in Bandra on Friday that the actor was driving with undue care and attention. The bodyguard claimed in court that he warned Khan to drive more carefully minutes before the tragedy. According to police, Khan killed one person and injured another four before leaving the scene of the accident. Patil contacted the authorities. The actor later surrendered and was arrested by police after a case was registered against him. Khan maintains his innocence and his lawyer Dipesh Mehta is keen to cross-examine Patil when the trial resumes on January 19. Mehta tells the Times Of India, "We shall grill Patil on January 19 and seek to demolish his claim about cautioning Salman."
