Basinger/Baldwin Court Battle Over

Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin's epic two year custody battle for their daughter has come to an apparent end after a hearing in a Los Angeles court. The screen stars have been locked in vicious on/off custody proceedings over their 10-year-old daughter Ireland since January last year. Baldwin dragged his ex back into court last month after claiming she had violated a court-imposed custody order this summer. The actor also accused Basinger of turning his daughter into a spy, Claiming she phoned her mother too frequently when staying with her father - to "report" on his actions. But a media-free hearing at the start of the week has reportedly closed the case, although details of the settlement have yet to be revealed. Basinger's lawyer Neal Hersh said, "Kim is respectful of what the judge did. We're hopeful this will be the end of it." An attorney for Baldwin, who did not attend the court meeting, defended her absent client's rigorous pursuit of fair custody, saying, "(Baldwin) has a right to parent his daughter. When he comes to court, it's because he feels it's an important issue that needs attention." The actor has allegedly spent over $1 million fighting the case.

Author Slams Cruise's Stance on Psychiatry

Hollywood star Tom Cruise has come under attack from best-selling author Patricia Cornwell - she believes his controversial stance on psychiatry is putting lives at risk. The American crime novelist is convinced Cruise's outspoken support of Scientology could cause a catastrophe when one of his young fans decides to follow his advice and refuse to take their medication. Scientology preaches mental illness is imaginary and psychiatric drugs are only prescribed to suppress people. Cornwell says, "There are misconceptions about psychology, especially when people out there like Tom Cruise says there's no evidence of chemical imbalance and psychiatric disorders. There's going to be some girl or boy who worships this megastar, who decides, 'I'm not going to take my anti-depressants because Tom Cruise said I don't need drugs.'" War Of The Worlds star Cruise became embroiled in a heated exchange with actress Brooke Shields earlier this year, after he criticized her for taking anti-depressants when she was diagnosed with post-partum depression.

Aniston Laughs Off Pregnancy Rumors

Jennifer Aniston has laughed off reports she is pregnant with Vince Vaughn's baby - despite declaring she wants to have children next year. Since splitting with ex-husband Brad Pitt in January, Aniston has been dating her The Break Up co-star Vaughn since August. Aniston says, "You know what? If all these (pregnancy rumors were true), I should have had 10 babies by now, married five times. I swear when it happens, you'll hear it." In an interview with America's In Style magazine, Aniston admits it took nearly a year of "hard work and soul-searching" before she was ready to date again. She explains, "You just wake up one day and you start to feel like, yeah, I think I'm open to that now. It's not mapped out. It just sort of happened. I hope to be on the road to having a family in the next year. Ideally, I'd like to have a couple (of children), but who knows? That's part of the unknown that I like."

Chappelle Sued by Former Manager

Funnyman Dave Chappelle is facing a court battle with his former manager Mustafa Abuelhija, who claims the comedian owes him a portion of his TV show profits. Abuelhija filed a breach-of-contract suit against Chappelle in Manhattan Federal Court on Tuesday, alleging the comedian owes him at least $864,500. Chappelle's ex-manager claims he helped broker deals which earned Chappelle $10 million, during the 10 month period he served as his personal manager. The 33-year-old walked away from his Comedy Central Chappelle's Show TV series earlier this year and fled to a spiritual retreat in South Africa. Abuelhija claims Chappelle returned from South Africa and told him his services were no longer needs and paid him a "paltry $40,000 as an 'advance' against the sum" he was owed. Abuelhija is also demanding profits from Chappelle's reported $50 Million deal with Comedy Central.

New Jackson Reality TV Show Proposed

A reality TV show featuring members of Michael Jackson's immediate family trying to make a pop comeback is being proposed. Music producer Cory Rooney is behind the project, which would follow the sons of Jackson's brother Tito as they try to resurrect their 1990s boyband 3T. In a pilot, which has been proposed to a number of US cable networks, the siblings receive help from relatives including LaToya and Jermaine Jackson, but have to clear prejudices surrounding their Uncle Michael's various legal problems in recent years. It remains unclear if Thriller superstar Michael will make an appearance in the show, although footage of him with the former 3T members is in the pilot.

Mortensen Defends Bush Criticism

The Lord Of The Rings star Viggo Mortensen refuses to apologize for his recent attack on President George W. Bush - maintaining the political leader is a "beast." The outspoken actor hit out at Bush after his controversial handling of Hurricane Katrina, but also disagrees with the President's Iraq policies, gossip site The Scoop reports. He fumes, "I'm not anti-Bush; I'm anti-Bush behavior. In other words, I'm against cheating, greed, cruelty, racism, imperialism, religious fundamentalism, treason, and the seemingly limitless capacity for hypocrisy shown by Bush and his administration. Cindy Sheehan (peace activist whose son was killed in Iraq) and how badly Katrina was bungled are two shots to the heart. I hope the beast does fall down soon."

Stern Brands Pitt "A Bore"

American shock jock Howard Stern believes Angelina Jolie will soon consider moving on from her romance with Brad Pitt, because he believes the Hollywood actor is "a bore." The Mr. And Mrs. Smith co-stars embarked on a romance earlier this year and their relationship is so serious, Pitt has filed to legally adopt Jolie's two children. But Stern believes Jolie will soon get bored of the actor, who recently divorced Jennifer Aniston. The radio personality says of the couple, "They belong together. They're the two best-looking people on the planet, aside from me and (my girlfriend) Beth. They should be mating. (But) she probably wants to get rid of this guy. I bet he's a bore after you sleep with him a couple of times."

Watts Breaks Schreiber Silence

Australian actress Naomi Watts have finally broken her silence over her relationship with Liev Schreiber, declaring "we understand each other very well". The Ring star, 37, and The Manchurian Candidate actor, 38, started dating in May after meeting at the New York's Museum Of Modern Art's Costume Institute Gala. Watts reveals she feels completely comfortable with the American actor, who she will spend the next few months with, filming The Painted Veil in China. She says, "He's just a solid guy and he's complex, which I love. And has a brilliant mind, which I am totally in awe of. And he's incredibly funny - you just have to laugh. For some people that's not such an important thing, but I need that. We understand each other very well and we're at very similar places in our lives."

Morissette's Terrifying Globe Phone Call

Alanis Morissette was terrified when she started receiving dozens of phone calls congratulating her on her Golden Globe nomination on Tuesday, because she thought a loved one had been injured. Morissette was stunned to discover she had been nominated for Best Original Song - Motion Picture for her track "Wunderkind" from the soundtrack of The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe. The rocker will compete with Mel Brooks, Dolly Parton and Sir Elton John's songwriting partner Bernie Taupin for the coveted gong at the January ceremony. Morissette admits when she first started receiving phone calls early Tuesday morning, she thought "something must be wrong, somebody must be hurt." But she adds, "I'm really excited. This song really touches me deeply, and so I'm excited that some light is being shown on it. I wrote the song on Friday and recorded it on Saturday and pretty Much handed it in the next day."

NYC Mayor Attends Damon Wedding

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was one of the few guests to attend Matt Damon's quickie wedding to Luciana Barroso in the Big Apple on Friday. The mayor watched the Ocean's Twelve star, 35, and Miami bartender Barroso, 30, tie the knot during a brief ceremony at New York City Hall. Bloomberg tells the New York Post, "All of us are thrilled that they chose New York to have their marriage." The politician also got the chance to kiss the bride after the ceremony, but adds, "not on the lips."
