NBC Bosses Refute Kanye West's Comments

US TV network NBC has distanced itself from Kanye West's comments, after he blasted President George W. Bush during Friday's broadcast of A Concert For Hurricane Relief. West, who didn't perform in the one-hour special, was on the stage with comedian Mike Myers reading a script from the teleprompter when he deviated from the pre-written dialogue to attack Bush and the government's reaction to Hurricane Katrina. He ranted, "If you see a black family it's looting but if it's a white family they are looking for food... We realize that a lot of people who could help are at war fighting another way (but) now they have given them permission to go down and shoot us." But the biggest shock of all came when West stated, "George Bush doesn't care about black people," prompting the camera rapidly cut away to stunned comedian Chris Tucker, who stumbled through his lines. There was a tape delay, but the censor was listening for profanity and didn't realize West was not following his script, according to NBC bosses. West's final comment was edited out of the West Coast airing of the show, which was broadcast three hours later. In a statement, NBC says, "Kanye West departed from the scripted comments that were prepared for him, and his opinions in no way represent the views of the networks. It would be most unfortunate if the efforts of the artists who participated tonight and the generosity of millions of Americans who are helping those in need are overshadowed by one person's opinion." The show featured performances from Harry Connick Jr., Wynton Marsalis, Faith Hill and Aaron Neville, among others.

Lopez Sparks Fresh Pregnancy Rumors

Pop superstar Jennifer Lopez has sparked fresh rumors she is expecting her first child after she bought baby clothes during a recent shopping trip in Los Angeles. The singer, who has spoken of her desire to start a family with third husband Marc Anthony, clearly enjoyed her visit to Petit Tresor, and told staff the tiny outfits were for her. A source tells British newspaper the News Of The World, "J.Lo came in to buy some little outfits. We all presumed it was for a niece or a family friend but she said, 'It's for me.' She then smiled and carried on looking around before buying some early-learning books." Britney Spears was spotted in the same shop last month buying outfits for a boy - prompting reports she is expecting a son.

Jolie Takes Action Over Storm Aid Efforts

Tomb Raider beauty Angelina Jolie has written to the US government urging authorities to speed up the response to Hurricane Katrina. The 30-year-old actress issued a statement late Friday saying she was "shocked" at the images coming from New Orleans, a city she said is "very close to my heart". She says, "It is wonderful to hear of the relief efforts that are finally coming into New Orleans and the rest of the region today, but as we all know, it is simply not going to be enough. The federal government's response must be dramatically increased in order to prevent a further loss of life." Jolie said she has sent letters to members of Congress and the White House asking them to increase aid efforts. She adds, "Like most people, I am simply trying to understand the situation in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama and how I can best help."

Gray Volunteers in Texas

Macy Gray has traveled from her Los Angeles home to provide hands-on help to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. While residents of America's Gulf states set up temporary homes in other parts of the country, a large number of Louisiana's affected population has set up camp in Houston, Texas' Astrodome, where Gray decided to pay a visit on Saturday. Gray, who helped hand out clothes and toiletries at the sporting venue, says, "I just really wanted to help out. I think the most important thing to them is their futures. They are here, and they have gotten out of that disaster but it is, like, now what? Because they can't live like that forever. It is crazy when you don't know what is going to happen to you the next day and suddenly that is what their lives are like." Singer Gray is delighted she was able to lift the spirits of those she met with, and many were excited to see her. She notes, "It is very humbling, but I loved every second of it. It was really gratifying and I had a great time." About 18,500 survivors are housed in the Astrodome and an adjacent meeting hall. More than 120,000 refugees are in 97 shelters in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and dozens of smaller cities across Texas, with another 100,000 staying in hotels and motels. A number of other uncounted individuals are in churches or private homes.

Aniston To Blast Pitt on TV?

Hollywood actress Jennifer Aniston is expected to spectacularly slam former husband Brad Pitt in a revealing television interview with Diane Sawyer. The former Friends star spoke publicly of her heartache for the first time to Vanity Fair - claiming Troy star Pitt lacks a "sensitivity chip" - but she is now determined to broadcast her feelings on the small screen. A source tells British newspaper the Daily Mirror, "She's spoken about the split to a magazine but feels she can explain her side of the story better on TV." The actress has two films coming out before the end of the year -- thriller Derailed opposite Clive Owen, and comedy Rumor Has It, co-starring Kevin Costner and Shirley MacLaine.

Painkiller Killed Domino Harvey

An accidental overdose of a powerful painkiller killed model-turned-bounty hunter Domino Harvey, according to a coroner's report. Fentanyl, a drug more potent than morphine, was found in her heart, blood and liver, according to a toxicology report released by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office on Friday. Harvey, 35, was found unresponsive June 27 in the bathtub of her Hollywood home and was pronounced dead at a hospital. Neither drowning nor foul play contributed to her death, according to the report. British-born Harvey, daughter of actor Laurence Harvey, gave up a modeling career and socialite lifestyle to become a bounty hunter. She was arrested in West Hollywood in May on drug charges and also faced federal charges of conspiring to distribute drugs, crossing state lines for unlawful activity and having property used in or obtained through criminal activity in Gulfport, Mississippi. Domino, a movie based on her life starring Keira Knightley, is scheduled for US release on November 4.

Crowe Learns To Control His Anger

Hollywood actor Russell Crowe credits his recent movie Cinderella Man with teaching him to curb his notorious temper. In preparation for the movie Crowe trained as a boxer, and was quick to realize mental control is the key to success. And Crowe, who last month paid $100,000 in damages to New York hotel worker Nestor Estrada after he allegedly attacked him with a telephone handset, hopes his new found wisdom will help him avoid any future fracas. He says, "If you take your anger into the boxing ring, you're going to get beaten. You can have anger, but it's not going to get you anywhere. You've got to be able to control it."

Haggis Gets 007 Writing Role

Canadian-born screenwriter Paul Haggis has been chosen to adapt Ian Fleming's Casino Royale for the big screen. The Oscar-nominated Million Dollar Baby writer will pen the script for the new James Bond film even before producers have announced who the next 007 will be. Goldeneye director Martin Campbell will return to take charge of the 21st Bond adventure. The script will based on the 1953 novel, which has already made it onto the big screen - with David Niven starring at James Bond. Haggis' most recent film, racial drama Crash, proved to be both a critical and commercial success.

Swank and Lowe Buy Family Home

Hilary Swank and her husband Chad Lowe have sparked speculation they're trying for a baby, after buying a family sized mansion in South Bellingham, Washington. The screen stars, who have been married for eight years, have long been fielding questions about when they'll start a family, and their new $3.5 million purchase in Swank's hometown is a strong indication they're ready, say pals. A friend explains, "She loves the fact that it's really safe. The house is amazing. It has five bedrooms, a pool and a tennis court. There's certainly enough room for a nursery or two!" Swank and Lowe currently live in New York City.

Elijah Lands Iggy Pop Role

The Lord Of The Rings star Elijah Wood has landed the role of a young Iggy Pop in a new movie but he's terrified of the prospect of portraying the outrageous punk icon. Wood will start shooting the top-secret film in 2006 and he admits he's getting more nervous as the start date approaches. He says, "I'm scared to death of doing it, because I love him (Iggy Pop) so much and I respect the music so much. I don't want to be the person responsible for screwing that up."
