Courtney Love Sent to Rehab
Courtney Love has been ordered into a rehabilitation facility, after tearfully informing a judge she's been using drugs in violation of her probation terms. The former Hole frontwoman, who recently failed a drug test, was on Friday ordered into a 28-day drug treatment program by a judge who said he had wanted to put her in jail. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Rand Rubin told the sobbing rocker, "I think that you need to hit rock bottom before you make a decision about what you're going to do in the future." Love, who is on probation in three separate cases, was in court for being under the influence of a controlled substance, which wasn't identified. She was told to enter a drug treatment facility by the end of the day. The judge ordered her back to court on September 16 for sentencing on the probation violations. Love's defense attorney Howard Weitzman says of his client, "She's serious. She's sincere. And she's pretty tenacious about getting her life in order." Love, widow of rocker Kurt Cobain, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor assault charge on February 10. She was already on probation in two unrelated drug cases. Just last month, a judge praised the singer for making progress in a court-ordered drug treatment program. The treatment is tied to a misdemeanor count of being under the influence of a controlled substance in 2003 when police alleged she tried to break into a former boyfriend's home.
Marcia Cross Engaged
Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross has announced that she and her stockbroker beau Tom Mahoney are engaged. The redhead actress, 43, accepted 47-year-old Mahoney's proposal last weekend, according to her publicist, Heidi Slan. Slan says, "The happy couple have not set a date for the wedding yet." It will be the first marriage for both. Earlier this year, Cross vehemently denied rumors that she's gay, following internet reports claiming that one of the Desperate Housewives stars was planning to come out of the closet. At the time, she said, "It's very odd and I assume this is what comes of being 42 and single. I don't know if they just needed to find a reason why I wasn't married... I mean, I'm not (a lesbian)."
Natasha Lyonne "Fighting for Her Life"
American Pie star Natasha Lyonne is reportedly fighting for her life in a New York City hospital, after being found with hepatitis C, a heart infection and a collapsed lung. The New York Post reports that the missing actress has been found struggling to survive in the Beth Israel Hospital's intensive care unit. The publication says that as well as the range of health problems she's battling, Lyonne was also found with track marks, and is undergoing methadone treatment, typically used to help heroin users. Her father Aaron Braunstein, who visited the 26-year-old actress a week ago, tells TV show Access Hollywood, "I read the article. I'm crying, actually. It's terrible. That's my little girl. It's a terrible tragedy. But she's gonna get better. We're all praying for her and she's a tough girl. As we see in the paper, she's probably with the wrong crowd, but the main thing she picked up is (hepatitis C) in Bulgaria (while shooting her 2001 movie The Grey Zone)." And Braunstein is certain the New York Post will face legal action for exposing details of Lyonne's condition, explaining, "There's a confidentiality between patient, doctor and hospital, so all of this is gonna be probably a major lawsuit."
Cheadle Finally Visits Hotel Rwanda
Don Cheadle has finally visited the hotel on which he based his critically-acclaimed movie Hotel Rwanda. The 40-year-old actor toured the Hotel des Milles Collines in Rwanda's capital Kigali last month, speaking with several of the more than 1,000 people who were sheltered there by manager Paul Rusesabagina - the character portrayed by Cheadle in the film - during the country's 1994 genocide. Cheadle, who earned an Oscar nomination for the film, says, "All of their experiences were the stuff of epic films - things they had to go through in those 100 days. It was amazing." The Hollywood actor, who had never seen the hotel because the 2004 film was shot primarily in South Africa, met with Rwandan President Paul Kagame, attended the premiere of Hotel Rwanda in Uganda and toured displaced-person camps in the country's northern provinces. He now plans to write a book with John Prendergast of the nonprofit International Crisis Group about how individual Americans can respond to Africa's problems. He explains, "It's really talking about my path out of apathy, and what people can do who are having the same questions and feelings. I had the same concerns and skepticism about sending aid to some shadowy situation where I didn't know if a warlord was going to get the money."
Hunter S. Thompson Remembered in Explosive Memorial

The ashes of Hunter S. Thompson were blasted into the sky from a cannon in the late American journalist's Colorado estate on Saturday night, exactly six months after his suicide. The Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas author, 67, shot himself in the kitchen of his home Owl Farm in Woody Creek, near Aspen on February 20. In accordance with his wishes, his ashes were fired from a 150 foot tower, topped by the his 'gonzo' journalism symbol of a red fist with two thumbs. Celebrity friends, including Johnny Depp, Bill Murray, Sean Penn, Lyle Lovett and The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band joined Thompson's widow Anita and 250 others at the private memorial on Saturday, and watched his ashes joined fireworks in the sky. His wife Anita lamented, "He loved explosions."
Longoria Returns to Work
Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria bravely returned to work Friday - despite being struck on the head by a falling pole while filming a key scene in the second series of the hit TV show Wednesday. The sexy actress - who plays adulterous vixen Gabrielle Solis in the television drama - was rushed to a nearby hospital after the heavy object came loose from the suburban set in Pasadena, California. Amazingly the petite star escaped with just a small bump on the head, and is thrilled there is no long-lasting visible scar. Longoria's publicist Liza Anderson confirms, "She's fine. She's happy and healthy. I spoke to her several times. It was a minor incident and she's ready to go back to work. She's thankful for all the kind get-well wishes." According to the New York Daily News, Longoria was reportedly shooting a jail scene when the accident happened.
Johansson Paparazzi Chase Ends in Car Crash
Scarlett Johansson's trip to California theme park Disneyland ended in disaster Friday afternoon, when her Mercedes hit another car as the paparazzi chased her. According to eyewitnesses, the Lost In Translation beauty was driving near the tourist attraction's entrance with two pals, when she swerved to get away from pursuing photographers and hit another vehicle containing a woman and her two young daughters. An onlooker says, "The front of Scarlett's Mercedes damaged the side of the other car pretty badly. Scarlett looked really shaken up and when both cars pulled over in a safe spot, she apologized profusely to the other woman. After that, they spent around 40 minutes on their phones, sorting out all of their insurance and legal paperwork." A Mercedes representative arrived soon afterwards with a new car for the actress to drive home. Johansson's publicist Marcel Pariseau states, "The fender bender was induced by the paparazzi, who chased her for 45 minutes." In June, fellow Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan was left with minor injuries after photographer Galo Ramirez allegedly drove into her car deliberately. Ramirez was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. The case is pending. And just last week, Reese Witherspoon got the disappointing news that a group of paparazzi who "besieged" her in April will not face criminal charges of false imprisonment.
Madonna Keen To Get Back in the Saddle

Ailing superstar Madonna is eager to return to horse-riding - despite fracturing her collarbone after being thrown from her horse earlier last week. The singer has been warned by doctors her injuries, which include a broken hand and three cracked ribs, could take three months to heal following her fall on Tuesday as she rode the mare given to her as a 47th birthday present from husband Guy Ritchie. However the motivated star remains undeterred in pursuing her new-found equestrian passion. She says, "I am grateful and overwhelmed by everyone's good wishes. As soon as the doctors give me the OK, I expect to be right back on a horse and ride again." Madonna expects to recover in time to promote her new album, Confessions On A Dance Floor, in November.
Angry Stefani Snubs MTV Awards

Pop queen Gwen Stefani is angrily refusing to attend MTV's prestigious Video Music Awards, as bosses at the channel failed to offer her a performing slot. The award-winning singer is deeply offended by the supposed snub, and she and her rock star husband Gavin Rossdale are staying away in protest - even though the blonde style icon has a bevy of nominations. An insider tells the New York Daily News, "We love Gwen and we hope she will be able to join us, as we know her fans would love to see her on this big night - especially since she's heavily nominated." Meanwhile, Coldplay, Shakira, Ludacris, Mariah Carey, The Killers, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson and Green Day will be rocking out at the musical spectacular.
