Abdul To Carry On as 'Idol' Judge Following Probe

Paula Abdul's job as a judge on hit TV contest American Idol is safe, after an independent counsel ruled there is no proof she had an affair with one of the show's contestants. While bosses at TV network Fox will keep Abdul in her role, they've vowed to implement an "enhanced non-fraternization policy" for when the Straight Up singer and her fellow judges Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson return to work to prevent future questionable incidents involving contestants. Abdul says in a statement: "I'm grateful this ordeal is over, and I'm so looking forward to getting back to the job I love. Once again, I thank my fans from throughout the world for their undying love and support." Bosses at Fox hired an independent counsel last month to investigate claims by former Idol contender Corey Clark that he had a sexual relationship with Abdul when he was a contestant in 2003, and that she helped him prepare for his performances on the show. Abdul dismissed the claims as lies, although she did admit to having telephone conversations with Clark.

Hanks Faces 'Da Vinci Code' Protestors

Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks was faced by protestors including nuns, as he began filming scenes for the upcoming film adaptation of Dan Brown's best-selling novel The Da Vinci Code in England yesterday. The demonstration took place outside Lincoln Cathedral, which is doubling for London's Westminster Abbey, where religious leaders only agreed to allow filming after the movie's producers made a $180,000 donation. Hanks, who will only be in Lincoln for two days, was chauffeur-driven the short distance from his five star hotel to the historic location - and he briefly waved at a small gathering of fans, who vied with demonstrators for his attention, before disappearing inside. The cathedral's Dean, The Very Reverend Alec Knight, has dismissed Brown's 20 million-selling book as "a load of old tosh", but he was unable to turn down the offer which gives priceless publicity to his spiritual home. However, demonstrators outside the cathedral have taken exception to Brown's questioning of their religious beliefs, and were led in a 12 hour prayer vigil by Catholic nun Sister Mary Michael. The 61-year-old says, "I just don't think it is right that they are filming this story here. I know the Bishop and Dean argue that it is fiction - and it might even be brilliant fiction - but it is against the very essence of what we believe."

Moore Fuels Pregnancy Rumors

Hollywood actress Demi Moore and her actor toyboy Ashton Kutcher are shunning parties to stay at home because they are trying for a baby. The 42-year-old Ghost star - who already has three children with former husband Bruce Willis - and is desperate to expand her family with her 27-year-old lover, reports the New York Daily News. Describing a perfect night with her young love she says, "Sharing a bath with one another and watching Court TV. Snuggling up naked. Going out dancing and going to the movies and having no-butter popcorn, holding hands, and then maybe the bathtub, or swimming naked in the pool. The next phase? The growth of our family. Which is all the things we truly desire to expand our family." The couple have been dating since May 2003.

New Schwarzenegger Scandal Brews

A woman who allegedly had an affair with Arnold Schwarzenegger was reportedly paid $20,000 by the publisher of US tabloid the National Enquirer to keep the scandal secret. A friend of the woman, named by the Los Angeles Times as 46-year-old Gigi Goyette, claims she was also paid $1,000 by the tabloid to keep confidential what she knew, in reported deals that came just days after Schwarzenegger announced his candidacy for California Governor in 2003. The friend, Judy Mora, says, "I kind of felt that they just wanted to not hear more about Arnold and his women or his flirtations." At the time of the confidentiality agreement, American Media Incorporated, owner of the National Enquirer, was in negotiations to make Schwarzenegger executive editor of two fitness magazines which had helped make him the world's most famous bodybuilder, according to the Los Angeles Times. A spokesman for Schwarzenegger says he believes the actor-turned-politician knew nothing about the reported deals. American Media spokesman Stuart Zakim declined to comment on the report. The Terminator star ended a contract with American Media last month - just two days after it was disclosed that he had a deal worth at least $13 million over five years to serve as executive editor of Muscle And Fitness and Flex magazines. In 2001, two years before American Media bought the two fitness magazines, the National Enquirer reported that Goyette enjoyed a seven year-long affair with Schwarzenegger.

Kutcher Cleans Up at Teen Awards

Actor Ashton Kutcher and new movie The Notebook were the big winners at the 2005 Teen Choice Awards at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Hollywood on Sunday. Kutcher, who is dating actress Demi Moore, took home three awards including Best TV Actor in a Comedy and Best Male Personality. Surprise hit The Notebook received eight awards, including accolades for its young stars, Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. The glitzy event was hosted by teen sensation Hilary Duff alongside the more seasoned host and comedian Rob Schneider. And socialite Paris Hilton, who co-hosted last year's awards, was stunned to pick up a prize for "Best Scream" in horror movie House Of Wax. Other big winners include actor Chad Michael Murray, and films A Cinderella Story and Napoleon Dynamite. Winners were decided by readers of Teen People magazine and successful nominees are honored with a surfboard instead of a statuette.

Madonna Finds New Image with Price

Pop queen Madonna has teamed up with producer Stuart Price to create a brand new sound for her upcoming album Confessions On A Dancefloor. The so-called queen of reinvention believes working closely with the musician has spawned a catchy style she calls "future disco", which is set to rock the club scene when it hits shelves later this year. And the pair found each other so inspiring, they simply couldn't stop writing songs. Price says, "We live real near each other in London, and we could just send ideas back and forth and get together and work on stuff. The creative process was very short. There were a couple of weeks in London at my studio where we were doing a song every day. Every few months, a club record comes along that hits a nerve with people, and they connect to it. They don't know why, but there is something magical in it. That's what we were trying to make."

Lilly Defends 'Lost' Cast

Lost star Evangeline Lilly has blasted criticism the cast of the hit TV drama look too glamorous to be real plane crash survivors. The 26-year-old model-turned-actress, who plays Kate Austin in the show, claims her character looks as realistic as possible because she's always covered in dirt and is not allowed to brush her hair during filming. She insists, "How I wake up is how my hair stays in the show. We wear almost no make-up and a lot of dirt and oil. They cover us in it. I'm disappointed that we come across as perfectly manicured and coiffed as my nails are always filthy, my hands are always scratched up and I've always got bruises all over my body. I think I look exactly how I would if I was genuinely stranded on a tropical island."

Scott: "I Just Want To Earn Cash"

Veteran director Tony Scott is not interested in winning an Oscar for his work - he just wants to make piles of money. The Top Gun film maker doesn't mind admitting his main objective is raking in cash - because his monetary approach means he can always secure finance for the projects he cares about. He says, "Everything I do is very solid. We always get the money back, plus. I shouldn't be saying this, but I think what's most important to me is that people pay me and give me the budget to support my habit, which is trying to touch different worlds and show people these worlds."

Cross Cringes at Sex Scenes

Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross hates filming steamy love scenes, as she gets embarrassed stripping off and making out in front of an entire TV crew. The flame-haired actress recently shot an especially raunchy scene, but was relieved when she found she was working with a different team altogether - and the sense of anonymity spared her blushes. She says, "Sex scenes are embarrassing. One scene was particularly hard, but we didn't shoot with our regular crew. I didn't know any of them and that really helped me out."

Stefani Shoots Down 'Factory Girl' Reports

Gwen Stefani has rubbished reports she's set to join Sienna Miller in the upcoming movie Factory Girl. It was reported last week that the "Rich Girl" singer, who portrayed Jean Harlow in The Aviator, had signed on to join Jude Law's fiancee in the film. It was said Stefani would play Richie Berlin, the roommate of Andy Warhol's muse Edie Sedgwick played by Miller. But the blonde beauty insists, "That's a big rumor. I'm not doing it." Stefani's husband Gavin Rossdale is reportedly set to star in the movie, however.
