Law Says Sorry to Miller for Affair

Jude Law has admitted he cheated on his fiancee Sienna Miller in a public apology to her, following the revelation he had an affair with a nanny. Daisy Wright, 26, recently told a UK tabloid that she had a month-long affair with the Alfie star while he was filming movie All The King's Men in America earlier this year. And in answer to the reports, Law has confirmed that he was unfaithful to Miller, to whom he proposed on Christmas Day 2004. He says in a statement: "Following the reports in today's papers, I just want to say I am deeply ashamed and upset that I've hurt Sienna and the people most close to us. I want to publicly apologize to Sienna and our respective families for the pain that I have caused." Blonde beauty Miller, 23, has yet to comment on the statement. Law divorced Sadie Frost in October 2003 after a six-year marriage and three children.

Depp Denies Basing Wonka on Jackson

Actor Johnny Depp has slammed reports he based his eccentric character Willy Wonka on troubled singer Michael Jackson - insisting the colorful role was based on a selection of children's TV show presenters. Depp says Jackson, who was acquitted of child molestation charges last month, would be the wrong person to base the Charlie And The Chocolate Factory character on, because the Thriller star loves kids, while Wonka dislikes them. He says, "It never entered my mind, Michael Jackson loves children but Willy Wonka doesn't." The true inspirations were TV hosts Captain Kangaroo, Mr. Rogers and Uncle Al, who mesmerized Depp as a child. He adds, "There were memories I have as a little kid watching children's shows and children show hosts. I distinctly remember thinking their speech pattern was strange."

Polanski Shocked by Vanity Fair Article

Troubled director Roman Polanski testified at his London libel case yesterday that he was left in a "state of shock" after reading a magazine article in which he's accused of propositioning a woman on the way to the funeral of his late wife Sharon Tate. The Rosemary's Baby maverick is suing publisher Conde Nast, over the Vanity Fair piece, which alleges he tried to seduce a woman on the way to the burial of Tate, who was murdered by followers of serial killer Charles Manson in 1969. And Polanski told jurors it was the most upsetting article about him he's ever read, because it suggests he did not care about his wife. He told the jury of nine men and three women, "This was the worst thing ever written about me. It's absolutely not true. I was in shock when I read it. But I think it was particularly hurtful, because it dishonors my memory of Sharon. It's all lies. That's not the way I behave. Still I had some honour. Still I have it now. Sharon was sweet, bright, brilliant. She had a great sense of humor. She was in my eyes the perfect woman." The 71-year-old gave evidence from France via video link for the case to avoid extradition to America, where he's wanted for questioning on child sex charges dating back to 1977.

Rowling's Latest Book Beats Previous Potter Records

Author JK Rowling's latest Harry Potter book has beaten the record of her last five boy wizard releases - by selling a staggering 6.9 million copies in America in just 24 hours. The eagerly-awaited Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince novel has earned more than $100 million in revenue by selling over 250,000 copies per hour since its release on Saturday. Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix was Rowling's most popular book until last weekend, selling five million copies in America when it was published in 2003. But her latest book's figures have even beaten the combined US box office sales of popular movies Wedding Crashers and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. American publisher Scholastic's spokeswoman Lisa Holton says, "When a book beats out movies, we're in great shape. This is a cause for celebration, not just for Scholastic, but for book lovers everywhere."

Longoria To Get "Fantastic Scenes" in Awards Bid

The creator of hit TV series Desperate Housewives has vowed to write a host of "fantastic scenes" for Eva Longoria in an attempt to win her an acting award. The sexy actress, who plays adulterous vixen Gabrielle Solis in the series, was overlooked for a Golden Globe nod alongside her female co-stars and, along with Nicolette Sheridan, was ignored again when the Emmy nominations were announced last week. And Marc Cherry is keen to scoop some credit for sexy Longoria. He says, "I don't know if it's because she's the youngest or so incredibly gorgeous or because the other women have been kicking around for longer and have a lot of (voting) friends in the industry who are so happy they've caught a second wave. I'd bet Eva was the sixth nominee, just a couple of votes behind someone else. I'm going to work a little harder this season to make sure she had some fantastic scenes just to try to fix this horrendous error." Liza Anderson, a publicist for 30-year-old Longoria, states, "Eva knows her time will come for an Emmy. She has two movies under her belt and is well on her way to becoming a major film star."

Cohen Prank Offends US Aristocrats

Ali G star Sacha Baron Cohen is under fire for playing a trick on an aristocratic family in America's Deep South, after they failed to see the funny side of his latest race-inspired prank. The British comic, posing as his documentary-maker alter ego Borat Sagdiyev, descended on the impressive home of George Matthews Marshall IV, 75, who believed Cohen was making a film about life in America's southern states. But Marshall and his daughter Heather were horrified when Cohen started implying they were racists. Marshall tells website PageSix.com, "Our understanding was that we were going to have a documentary 'supper' in which they would be learning about the South. We signed a release because we were trusting. Our ancestors have been in this house for 152 years. In that time, we've never had anyone try to deceive us. This turned out to be the first unpleasant episode we have experienced since the (nineteenth century) Civil War. They tried to get us to say we approved of slavery. I was, of course, aghast." Matters spiraled further out of control when the cheeky funnyman introduced a raunchy extra character into the situation. Heather recalls, "Cohen attempted to shock (us) by introducing a black woman who pretended to be a prostitute. She kissed and groped him at the dining table." Marshall adds with disgust, "She was a huge woman, grotesquely dressed." And once the furious family realized they had been tricked, they threw Cohen and his crew out, who "stayed on the property and banged on the door, screaming, 'I do not understand your customs!'" Cohen's publicist Matt Labov says, "I have to give a boring old, 'No comment.'"

Knoxville Urges Press To Stop Simpson Affair Reports

Johnny Knoxville has begged the press to stop reporting he had an affair with his Dukes Of Hazzard co-star Jessica Simpson - because it's upsetting their families. The former Jackass funnyman was rumored to have romanced the reality TV beauty on the set of the movie remake - despite the fact he's married to Melanie Clapp and Simpson is married to former boyband star, Nick Lachey. Knoxville - real name Phillip Clapp - says he's used to hurtful gossip, but his loved ones are finding it difficult to deal with. He says, "Jessica and I are just friends. She's a great girl and all that, but all the rumors. I just take it in my stride, but it's kind of hurtful to the families that are involved."

Anderson Helps Love Shed Pounds

Troubled rocker Courtney Love is so upset about her dramatic weight gain she's enlisted her sexy pal Pamela Anderson to put her through a grueling fitness program. The former Hole frontwoman was ordered to complete a rehabilitation program by a Los Angeles court last July and has been free of alcohol and drugs for a year. But the 41-year-old has turned to food to help her overcome her addictions, and is now relying on the former Baywatch beauty to help her regain her slender physique. She says, "I'm working out. Pamela Anderson runs with me up the steps of Pepperdine University. She's like my personal trainer. I'm a size 30 jeans now."

Lohan Packs Trunks for European Visit

Mean Girls star Lindsay Lohan is so intent on looking good during a two week promotional trip to Europe, she is taking 10 trunks full of clothes. The 19-year-old actress will be touring the continent to promote her new movie Herbie: Fully Loaded, and will be relying on the services of her stylist Rachel Zoe to keep her looking trendy everywhere she goes. Zoe, whose clients include Jennifer Garner, Nicole Richie, Salma Hayek, Kate Hudson, Mischa Barton and Brittany Murphy, has been fitting and photographing Lohan in hundreds of outfits ahead of the four-city summer trip, before packing them in trunks. She says, "This girl went though two trunks of clothes in 48 hours in New York, so I would imagine there will be eight or 10 trunks. She'll wear at least three outfits a day. I am the biggest fashion-obsessed person in the world. But in Lindsay I feel like I may have met my match. If she wasn't an actress, she would be a stylist, because she would have to be."

Hannah Quits Movies To Save Planet

Movie beauty Daryl Hannah has turned her back on her acting career to focus on saving the planet - despite her remarkable comeback in the hit Kill Bill movies. The 44-year-old actress garnered critical acclaim for her part as villainous Elle Driver in director Quentin Tarantino's martial arts epics, helping her win a succession of high-profile film roles. But Hannah is unimpressed by her dramatic career revival, and insists her latest film, Living Neon Dreams, will be her last until she's satisfied her need to protect the environment. She explains, "Time has taught me to worry less about myself and be more compassionate about other's anxieties. I am more focused on trying to save the planet and other living creatures than on my career at the moment. I won't be doing anything for a while because I'm focused on environmental issues. I live in a solar-powered house built with eco-friendly materials and things salvaged from a 19th century barn. I also drive a 100 per cent bio-diesel car. I try to follow this ideal through all aspects of my life."
