Moore Fights Libel Suit Filed by Bomber's Brother
Michael Moore begged a federal judge to dismiss a libel lawsuit against him on Friday insisting the prosecution's complaints about his 2002 movie Bowling For Columbine "range from the frivolous to the silly". Oklahoma City bombing conspirator Terry Nichols' brother James filed the lawsuit, because he believes Moore's documentary implied he was an accomplice in the tragic 1995 attack, which left 168 people dead. James also accuses Moore of incorrectly stating he had been arrested in connection with the bombing, when he was only held as a material witness. His brother received two life sentences and Timothy McVeigh was executed in 2001 for planning the bombing. But Moore's lawyer Herschel Fink told the court Moore's statements in the movie are constitutionally protected, because they are based on documents from court and because James became a public figure by writing a book and giving press interviews. Fink argued, "Nichols' complaint is the perfect storm of libel suits. The claims against him range from the frivolous to the silly. When you see a Michael Moore film, you know it's opinion. And it's protected." But James' lawyer Kenneth McIntyre countered, "Moore offered half-truths" in the film. Moore was unable to attend the hearing, because he was launching the Traverse City Film Festival in his home state of Michigan.
Geldof's Final Command to G8 Leaders
Live 8 co-organizer Sir Bob Geldof shocked the G8 leaders on the eve of Saturday's historic rock gigs - by demanding an extra $50 billion to rebuild the world's poorest countries. The charismatic rocker urged politicians to stamp out the spiraling debt and end trade injustice in the developing world, by writing an open letter to them begging for extra money. His letter, published in Saturday's British newspapers, reads, "Let this be absolutely clear before the first note is played. Everyone taking part in these concerts is there because the many generations watching will not tolerate the further pain of the poor while we have the means to prevent it. We will not applaud half-measures, or politics as usual. This must be a historic breakthrough. Do not disappoint us. Do not betray the desires of billions and the hopes of the poorest of our world. Deliver an extra $25 billion aid for Africa and ensure this aid really will be effective at eradicating poverty. This must stand beside a further $25 billion for the other poorest countries of the world."
BBC Sorry for Swearing Stars

The BBC has apologized to outraged viewers after stars including Madonna and Snoop Dogg peppered their performances with swear words at Saturday's UK Live 8 gig. The British broadcaster was bombarded with complaints when the "Ray Of Light" singer bellowed, "Are you f**king ready, London?" to a stunned family crowd in London's Hyde Park. Meanwhile, rap star Snoop Dogg made no attempt to clean up his expletive-riddled lyrics. A BBC spokesperson says, "We have received a number of complaints regarding offensive language. Unfortunately it is a live broadcast, passions are running high and many celebrities are emotional. We apologize to anyone who is offended."
Jolie Slams Pregnancy Rumors

Screen beauty Angelina Jolie denied she is pregnant during Saturday's Live 8 concert in Cornwall, southwest England, following a flurry of media reports to the contrary. The rumors started when the 30-year-old beauty was photographed shopping for baby items with her adopted son Maddox, three, and her Mr. And Mrs. Smith co-star Brad Pitt, who she has been romantically linked to ever since they were snapped enjoying intimate moments on a Kenyan beach in Africa in April. An onlooker at London's Harrods department store told Britain's The Sun newspaper, "Angelina spent the best part of two hours looking around the babywear department. She was wearing a long black coat as if she was trying to hide her body from prying eyes. She kept touching her midriff and holding her stomach as if she was comforting herself. She spent a lot of time looking at cots and spent a small fortune on clothes for newborn babies." However, Jolie emphatically told journalists at the Eden Project's Calling Africa concert, "I am not pregnant."
Mimi Rogers: "Why Is Tom and Katie's Romance Such a Big Deal?"

Actress Mimi Rogers is baffled about the fuss surrounding her ex-husband Tom Cruise's new wedding plans, and insists the movie hunk really is in love with Katie Holmes. Rogers, who was married to Cruise for three years in the late 1980s, can't understand why people are struggling to believe her ex and his new fiancee Holmes are really in love. The actress, who insists she has a friendly relationship with Cruise, is shocked by comments that the new Hollywood couple are just staging a publicity stunt. She says, "OK, he and Katie fell in love, they're getting married. Why is this in the news? Why is this a big deal? Is there something unusual about meeting someone and falling in love? He needs so much help career-wise. Here's the thing, you're the biggest movie star in the world, you've got a gazillion dollars, why does he need to do anything? (Is he) like, 'Let's see, I'm the biggest movie star in the world. I have a gazillion dollars I need to do a fake wedding.' Explain that to me. Let's look at Katie Holmes: 'I'm 26, I'm gorgeous, I have a huge movie that just opened ( Batman Begins), I've got like 10 million offers. I need to have a fake marriage.' Maybe they fell in love and they're getting married... It's the only rational answer that I can come up with."
Ratner Spices Up 'X-Men'
Brett Ratner is spicing up the new X-Men 3 movie with the addition of his very own fantasy - a sex siren mutant who seduces her opponents rather than battles them. Ratner takes over from departing director Bryan Singer, who made the first two movies, and the Rush Hour film maker is determined to leave his mark on the comic book series. The new mutant has not yet been cast but unknowns Kate Nauta and Aya Sumika will reportedly audition. A source tells Pagesix.com the mutant will be, "An unbelievably hot and sexy hooker. Her super power is that she secretes a pheromone that helps her to seduce men. She can seduce anyone." The source adds of the auditions, "They are open to all ethnicities who are in their early-to-mid 20s."
Brando's 'Godfather' Script Fetches AaStaggering $312,800

Late movie legend Marlon Brando's personal script from the 1972 movie The Godfather fetched a staggering $312,800 at a New York auction on Thursday - the highest amount ever paid for a film manuscript. The annotated script - which fetched 20 times its estimated price - was part of a controversial sale of items removed from Brando's Los Angeles home. The high-profile auction at Christie's made more than $2.3 million in total, with surprising bids including $132,000 for author Mario Puzo's letter asking the actor to play gangster Don Corleone in the film. The letter read, "Dear Mr. Brando, I wrote a book called The Godfather which has had some success and I think you're the only actor who can play the part. I know this was presumptuous of me but the best I can do by the book is try. I really think you'd be tremendous." A 44-year-old telegram from Brando to screen siren Marilyn Monroe sold for $36,000 while a photograph of the film icon and actress Rita Moreno in the 1968 movie The Night Of The Following Day fetched $48,000. Brando's eldest son, Christian Brando, was furious about the auction, and made an unsuccessful bid to be given the items before the sale to decide which belongings his father would have wanted to keep. But Brando's other son, Miko Brando, is moved by the amount of money his late father's fans were willing to pay to own a piece of movie history: "I feel humbled by collectors and fans who have spent so freely to own a piece of my father's heritage and history." Brando died last year aged 80 leaving 11 children.
Farrow To Appear at Polanski's Sex Trial

Hollywood actress Mia Farrow will testify in Roman Polanski's defense at the Oscar-winning director's forthcoming libel sex trial. The 60-year-old actress will appear at Polanski's London High Court case next month against Conde Nast, the publisher of Vanity Fair magazine. The filmmaker has filed a lawsuit over a Vanity Fair article, in which he is accused of propositioning a woman on the way to the funeral of his late wife Sharon Tate, who was murdered by followers of serial killer Charles Manson in 1969. Farrow, who rose to fame in the Polish film-maker's 1968 classic Rosemary's Baby, was present with Polanski at New York's popular restaurant Elaine's, where the alleged incident took place. A source tells Britain's Sunday Times newspaper, "Mia regards Roman as a close friend and she says she will do all she can to help him."
A New Look for Peter Jackson
Lord Of The Rings movie maker Peter Jackson has shed 70 pounds of his bulk working on new movie King Kong. The heavyweight director credits a healthier fruit and yogurt diet for his new slim look. He says, "It was all the catering for five years on Lord of The Rings." Jackson has also undergone laser eye surgery so he can ditch his famous spectacles: "I just got tired of being outside with rain and dust on the glasses."
