Shields Slams Cruise's 'Today' Comments

Brooke Shields' war of words with Tom Cruise has taken another twist after the Suddenly Susan actress slammed Cruise's recent rant against psychotherapy and anti-depressant medication on TV show Today. Cruise, who is a devotee of L. Ron Hubbard's Scientology religion, lashed out at Shields in an interview last month for condoning the use of drugs she used to help overcome post-partum depression. But Shields is determined to have the final word - and she is even thankful to Cruise for increasing public knowledge about the debilitating mental illness. Shields tells the New York Times, "I'm going to take a wild guess and say that Mr. Cruise has never suffered from postpartum depression. To suggest that I was wrong to take drugs to deal with my depression, and that instead I should have taken vitamins and exercised shows an utter lack of understanding about postpartum depression and childbirth in general. If any good can come of Mr. Cruise's ridiculous rant, let's hope that it gives much-needed attention to a serious disease."

Affleck and Garner Wed in the Caribbean

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have wed in a top secret Caribbean ceremony. The couple, who began dating last July, have also used the happy occasion to confirm reports the actress is expecting their first child. Affleck and Garner exchanged vows at the exclusive Parrot Cay resort on the Turks and Caicos Islands last night. The couple's publicists Ken Sunshine and Nicole King have confirmed both the wedding and baby news today. This is the first marriage for Affleck, who was formerly engaged to Jennifer Lopez. Garner divorced husband Scott Foley in March 2004. Affleck obviously likes wedding ceremonies at spa resorts - he was due to wed Lopez at the Baccara Spa resort in Santa Barbara, California in 2003, but the ceremony was called off due to security concerns. It's not the first brush with celebrity romance for the Caribbean paradise - both Matthew McConaughey and Penelope Cruz and Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills McCartney spent romantic getaways at the resort earlier this year .

Pitt and Jolie Caught on Camera Again

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been caught playing happy families again at the Tomb Raider star's English country estate. Photographs of the couple enjoying some summer fun with Jolie's adopted son Maddox will appear in this week's People magazine in America. The shots show a bare-chested, helmet-less Pitt riding around the estate on a motorcycle with Maddox, who is kitted out in bike gear, as Jolie looks on. People sources claim Pitt was welcomed at England's Luton Airport by Jolie and Maddox after jetting in secretly to spend time with his Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-star, who he has been romantically linked to ever since they were photographed enjoying a few intimate moments on a Kenyan beach in Africa in April.

Spielberg Leads Oscar Race With Movie He Started Shooting This Week

An untitled Steven Spielberg movie about the 1972 Munich, Germany Olympics has emerged as the mid-year frontrunner to land a Best Picture Oscar in 2006, according to America's top critics. The experts who write for Internet site GoldDerby.com insist the five films which will be in contention for the Academy Award next year have all yet to be released. And Spielberg's new film, about the massacre of Israeli athletes (currently known as Untitled 1972 Munich Olympics Project), which the movie mogul started filming earlier this week, leads the pack. The other films the GoldDerby.com reviewers feel sure will be nominated early next year are Jarhead, Memoirs of a Geisha, Goodnight, and Good Luck and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. Website editor Tom O'Neil says, "Award voters love real stories, especially when they're important ones about persecution told by Spielberg - Schindler's List reigns as the only film in modern history to win Best Picture from every major awards group." Spielberg is expected to shoot the movie throughout the summer and hopes to release it at Christmas. O'Neil also likes Sam Mendes' new movie Jarhead as an Oscar contender: "Since it's about the disillusionment of a US Marine during the first Gulf war, it'll have obvious impact on Americans struggling now with doubts or worries about the current involvement in Iraq."

Domino Harvey "Died of Undetermined Causes"

British model-turned-bounty hunter Domino Harvey died of "undetermined causes" in her West Hollywood home on Monday, police have said. The 35-year-old daughter of late English actor Laurence Harvey - who starred in the original 1962 The Manchurian Candidate - and model Paulene Stone, was found dead in her bathtub. Police revealed initial investigations suggest Harvey drowned, however the cause will not be confirmed until the coroner's drug and blood test results, which could take up to 10 weeks. Lesbian socialite Domino quit modelling 12 years ago to capture fugitives and criminals for a Los Angeles bail bond agency. Domino's life story has recently been the subject of Keira Knightley's new movie Domino, which is scheduled to hit cinema screens in the UK in August.

Frost and Law Reach Out of Court Settlement

British actor Jude Law and his ex-wife Sadie Frost have finally reached an out of court settlement - nearly two years after they divorced. The Oscar-nominated heart-throb, 32, and fashion designer Frost, 38, have been disagreeing over their divorce settlement since they officially ended their six-year marriage in October 2003, on account of Law's admitted "unreasonable behavior". The couple share custody of their three children - Rafferty, 8, Iris, 4, and Rudy, 2. British newspaper Daily Mail reports the pair came to an agreement over the telephone, just three days after the case at London's High Court began. Both Law and Frost have signed confidentiality agreements preventing them from discussing the deal, but it believed Frost is keeping their marital home in Primrose Hill, north London and will received monthly allowances and a lump sum from Law, totalling $3.6 million. A friend of Frost tells the Mail, "Sadie is pretty happy about the agreement - they both are. The most important thing for her is that she has kept the house. She knows that she will be financially secure - although she will still have to work. Jude is relieved, too. Sadie had been trying to get a lot more money out of him. Both of them are now hoping to put this behind and get on with their lives with their new partners." Law proposed to his Alfie co-star Sienna Miller last Christmas , while Frost is dating flamenco guitarist Jackson Scott.

Anne Bancroft Memorial

Mel Brooks held a private memorial for his late wife Anne Bancroft at New York's St. James Theater on Monday. The actress, most famous for her role in The Graduate, died earlier this month after a battle with uterine cancer. She was 73. Around a hundred guests attended the memorial, including singer Paul Simon, who played an acoustic version of "Mrs. Robinson," written for The Graduate. Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick - who appeared in Brooks' production of The Producers on Broadway and in the upcoming movie version - were also in attendance. At the end of the service, Brooks joked, "If any of you are grieving, keep it to yourself. I don't want to hear it."

Pastore Pleads Not Guilty to Assaulting Girlfriend

Former The Sopranos actor Vincent Pastore continued to plead not guilty to an alleged assault on his ex-girlfriend in a New York City court on Thursday, as a judge presided over a plea bargain for the TV star. The 58-year-old actor, who played Salvatore 'Big Pussy' Bonpensiero in the mob drama, stands accused of smashing his actress fiancee Lisa Regina's head against his car dashboard and dragging her out by her hair in Manhattan's Little Italy in May. Regina, 44, claims she was treated for cuts and bruises, following the alleged assault. Pastore has pleaded not guilty to four misdemeanour charges, including two for assault, one for attempted assault and harassment. If found guilty, Pastore could face up to 12 months behind bars. Regina's lawyers have offered to drop all charges against Pastore on the condition he undergoes 10 days of community service and enrol in a domestic abuse programme. After Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Ellen Coin set a September 26 trial date yesterday, Pastore or his attorney Dominic Barbara made no comment about whether the actor would accept the plea bargain.

Jackson Holidays in Bahrain

Pop superstar Michael Jackson is holidaying in the Middle Eastern country of Bahrain, during his first trip outside America since being found innocent of child molestation charges earlier this month . The Thriller singer is staying at a prince's palace with his three children, having flown in from Europe last night. It is not known how long he plans to remain in Bahrain. A source tells news agency Associated Press that Jackson is staying in one of the royal palaces as a guest of the king's son, Sheik Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, a friend of the 46-year-old singer's brother Jermaine Jackson.

Family and Friends Pay Tribute to Sir John Mills

Stars including Richard Attenborough, Dame Judi Dench and Sir Michael Caine joined Sir John Mills' family to pay tribute to the accomplished actor at a memorial service held in London yesterday. The Ryan's Daughter star died at his Buckinghamshire, England home in April following a short illness. He was 97. And his family and friends were keen to express the deep impact Mills had on their lives at the St. Martin-in-the-Fields church service. Dench gushed, "The most talented, the most adorable, the most charming and the naughtiest man I have ever met." Mills' daughter Juliet added, "If I had to chose three words to describe him, I think they would be loving, brave and funny. He was the funniest man I have ever known." Music at the service was provided by Mills' grandson Crispian, who was once the lead singer of British rock band Kula Shaker, and Andrew Lloyd Webber - who joined singer Andrea Ross to perform a song from his hit musical Whistle Down The Wind. Lord Attenborough said of his friend of 63 years, "I thought he was a hero then and to me he remained so throughout his life. I shall miss his guidance, I shall miss his caring and his unfailing sense of honor, but most of all I shall miss his loyalty and devotion in our lasting friendship."

Christian Group Slams Simpson

An American Christian group have demanded Jessica Simpson apologise for her raunchy new music video. The Resistance have dubbed the video for her cover of "These Boots Are Made For Walking" as "slutty" - and ordered her to shoot a cleaner version. They object to her risque behavior in the video - the song is taken from the soundtrack for The Dukes Of Hazzard - in which she washes a car wearing a skimpy bikini - particularly because Simpson's father is a Baptist pastor and they view her as a Christian role model. The group's representative John Conner says, "It's sad to see her whore herself out like this. She's a singing stripper."

'American Idol' Winner Studdard Sues Former Manager

American Idol star Ruben Studdard has followed up threats to sue his former manager for identity theft by filing a complaint with Birmingham, Alabama police. Studdard, who won the second season of the hit talent show, filed suit on Monday, claiming Ronald W. Edwards forged his signature, used his credit cards and gave himself unauthorised power of attorney over the singer's affairs. In the legal papers, Studdard claims the alleged forgery and identity theft took place over the course of the year following his May 2003 American Idol win. Edwards denies the allegations.
