Jury Selected for Jackson Trial

Jury selection for Michael Jackson's child molestation trial was completed yesterday, weeks ahead of schedule. The panel for the Santa Maria, California, trial consists of four men and eight women, ranging in age from 20 to 79. The racial and ethnic breakdown is seven Caucasians, four Hispanics and one Asian. Superior Court Judge Rodney S. Melville announced, "We have a jury." After the jury was sworn in, attorneys moved on to the selection of eight alternate jurors. Jury selection had been expected to last several weeks, but took only five court days, which were interrupted by a one-week break due to the death of an attorney's sister and another one-week break because Jackson was hospitalized with flu-like symptoms. One of the jurors had been asked during selection if he recognized celebrity witnesses in the case including self-help guru Deepak Chopra. He responded, "I think he's a rapper." Jackson is charged in a 10-count indictment with molesting a 13-year-old boy at his Neverland Valley Ranch and conspiring to commit child abduction, false imprisonment and extortion. He has pleaded innocent.
Hilton Apologizes to Celebrity Pals
Paris Hilton has issued a public apology to her many pals who have been bombarded with calls since the contents of her mobile phone ended up on the internet. Hordes of celebrities, including Christina Aguilera, Eminem, Anna Kournikova and Ashley Olsen received hundreds of calls after Hilton's T-Mobile Sidekick was recently hacked. And Hilton, who became an unintentional porn star on the internet when her sex tape with ex-boyfriend Rick Salomon was leaked, is eager to let her pals know she's truly sorry. She tells Us Weekly, "I feel horrible that, once again, someone has invaded my privacy." Hilton learned of the leak while holidaying on the Caribbean island of Aruba. She says, "(My sister Nicky) told me what was out there. It's too upsetting for me - I can't believe it. I want to apologize to all my friends and family. I don't know why this stuff always happens to me, but I wish it wouldn't anymore."
Campbell Blames Cocaine for Bad Temper

Supermodel Naomi Campbell holds her cocaine use responsible for her notoriously short temper. The British beauty, who attended anger management classes in 1998 after striking her then-personal assistant Georgina Galanis, blames the illegal white powder for her volatile behavior. Talking to Diane Sawyer on American TV's Primetime Live last night, Campbell says, "You become short-tempered. You know? Your little charm goes. The little glow in your face goes. It's a very nasty drug. I think what is very scary about cocaine is that you start to feel too confident and you start to feel indispensable, although none of us are indispensable."
Pitt and Aniston Dined Together on Valentine's Day
Brad Pitt enjoyed a romantic meal with his estranged wife Jennifer Aniston on Valentine's Day - fuelling speculation the couple's split is only temporary. The Troy actor reportedly dined with the former Friends actress at their $17 million Los Angeles mansion - contradicting reports they are heading for a speedy divorce. A source says, "If romantic gestures had a financial value, this one would be worth a million dollars. It really was the thought that counted. It was totally no frills - their favorite Chinese food from Mr. Chow, red wine from the grocery store and a dessert of frozen yogurt and grapes."
Slater To Divorce Haddon

Hollywood star Christian Slater has begun divorce proceedings to end his five-year marriage to Ryan Haddon. The pair split in January, during Slater's run in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest on London's West End, amid rumors Haddon was sick of the actor's non-stop partying. The producer was also keen to move back to Los Angeles with their two young children, whereas Slater wanted to stay in England - according to reports. Just last week the True Romance star expressed his determination to reconcile with Haddon, insisting, "I am naturally extremely keen to make sure everything works for the best." But the actor filed a divorce petition on Friday, citing irreconcilable differences. Slater's publicist, Evelyn Karamanos, says in a statement, "The mutual decision was reached amicably and they remain committed to raising their two young children together. They ask for the respect of their privacy at this time."
Rock Humiliates Loved-Up Simpson and Lachey

Comedian Chris Rock left pop couple Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey red-faced when he blasted them for kissing during his act. The celebrity pair - who have recently been subjected to frenzied reports about the state of their marriage - were part of the audience at Rock's stand-up show at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles on Saturday, and decided to occupy their time in the balcony with some physical intimacy. Satisfied their lip-locking wouldn't attract any unwanted attention, Simpson and Lachey were then stunned when Rock pounced on them, reports website Pagesix.Com. The funnyman proceeded to launch into a mocking tirade, warning the embarrassed couple he'll blame them if he makes any major mistakes when he presents the Oscars on Sunday.
Combs Under Fire for Using Penguins at Party
Sean "P Diddy" Combs has been blasted by animal activists who are furious the hip-hop mogul used penguins as props at a Miami party he hosted. People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) campaigners were horrified to discover six penguins floating on platforms in a swimming pool to mark the opening of the Hotel Victor in South Beach on Friday night - particularly because the waddling animals are only acclimatized to cold weather. And PETA heads have attacked Combs and the party organizers for their cruel treatment of the arctic dwellers. Spokesman Michael McGraw tells website Pagesix.Com, "Penguins live in very cold climates, so the heat was probably unbearable for them. They're very sensitive to temperatures, so if it was as hot as we've heard, it's a wonder they didn't collapse. In any case, they were likely terrified. We are now looking into whether having the penguins there broke any cruelty-to-animals laws. We're asking anyone who was at the party to call us with any information." However, Combs' publicist Rob Shuter has defended the rapper, insisting it wasn't his idea to bring penguins to the bash. And a spokesman for Hotel Victor claims the penguins were actually "warm-weather" specimens from South Africa that were "trained specifically for entertainment, expositions and television commercials"
Anderson Shuns Fur Fans

Former Baywatch babe Pamela Anderson is so staunchly opposed to the fur trade, she refuses to interact with anyone she spots wearing animal skin. The busty blonde - who is an ardent campaigner for People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) - stunned guests at Las Vegas' Palms Hotel last week when she snubbed an elevator car after noticing one of the occupants was sporting a fur coat. Anderson, who was in the gambling mecca to promote her new fashion range, waited patiently until a lift became available without the offensive presence of a mink garment. Peta spokesman Dan Matthews says, "The elevators were filled. Pam waited with Dennis Rodman, David LaChapelle and Stephen Dorff as elevator after elevator went by, filled to capacity. After 10 cars came and went, one finally stopped with two people inside, but one of the women was wearing a fur coat. 'Going down?' the woman asked, to which Pam replied, 'Yes, but not with you, lady. Get rid of the fur.'"
Johansson's Crush on Hasselhoff
Lost in Translation star Scarlett Johansson was thrilled to share the big screen with David Hasselhoff in animated picture The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie - because she used to have a crush on the Baywatch star. Johansson, 20, confesses as a teenager she lusted after Hasselhoff's fictional lifeguard Mitch Buchanan in the TV hit. She reveals, "I so fancied him when I was young, that to see my name on the credits next to his makes me go all girly. He was a hunk back in those days, you know."
