Bullock Battles Builder in Court

Actress Sandra Bullock has entered a Texas courtroom to fight the builder she hired to build her a luxury home, accusing him of constructing an unlivable abode. Developer MB 'Benny' Daneshjou claims the Miss Congeniality star - who appeared at Travis County court Wednesday - owes him money for the work carried out on her Lake Austin house, which he claims is perfectly well built. He filed a lawsuit against the actress but she countersued, claiming the house was defective. Travis County District Judge Paul Davis banned cameras from his courtroom for the trial that's expected to last more than a month, because he doesn't want her celebrity status to make an impact on the case. The actress - who has been entangled in litigation with Daneshjou for several years - was in the courtroom for jury selection as potential jurors were asked if her celebrity would be a factor in reaching a verdict. Bullock laughed when a woman failed to realize she was a movie star, instead believing she was a former wife of late Texas political giant Bob Bullock. The sexy actress, 40, first contracted with Daneshjou in 1997 to build the lakefront house. She also agreed to become a partner with him in a development project. But she now claims the home needed massive repairs and that Daneshjou committed fraud in the development project in which she invested more than $300,000. Opening statements in the case are expected to begin this week.

Bana for Bond After All?

Australian actor Eric Bana has been approached to play James Bond but has yet to decide on whether to accept the coveted role, according to reports. The Hulk star recently slammed speculation he was poised to replace Pierce Brosnan in the legendary franchise, insisting he had never been approached by producer Barbara Broccoli. But an insider tells London's Evening Standard newspaper that Bana is trying to decide whether starring as the world's favorite super-spy will damage his burgeoning film career, or enhance it. A source says, "Eric has been offered the part of James Bond but is currently deciding whether it's something he really wants to sign up to." According to the Bond insider, both British star Clive Owen and Australia's Hugh Jackman are in line for the role should Bana turn it down.

Superman Bosses Advertize for Unknown

Superman Returns producers have turned to the internet in a desperate bid to find a lead for the troubled production. Movie bosses behind the superhero sequel began their search for an actor to replace original star Christopher Reeve a year ago - and are now contemplating casting an unknown for the fifth Man Of Steel film. Top Hollywood names, including Jude Law and Keanu Reeves, have already rejected the role for fear of being typecast. Film-makers have now posted an advert on recruitment website Craigslist.Org in another drive to get cameras rolling on the much-delayed movie. The ad reads, "Late 20s, at least 6 foot, chiseled good looks, athletic, strong character, all-American, confident, yet awkward."

Winfrey and Fellow Jurors Deliver Guilty Verdict

Oprah Winfrey and her fellow jurors have found the man on trial for murder guilty in a Chicago, Illinois, court. After a three-day trial, Winfrey and 11 other jurors deliberated for more than two hours before finding Dion Coleman, 27, guilty of shooting Walter Holley, 23, seven times over a counterfeit $50 bill that Coleman passed. Billionaire Winfrey, who was paid $17.20 a day during the trial, says, "The bigger story here for me is a man is dead, murdered, supposedly over $50, and that the real war is still going on in the inner-city streets every day. Young black men killing each other. (It was) one of the saddest, saddest experiences I've ever had. I had problems looking at the graphic evidence. I'm not a person who watches murder shows. If there's a gun involved and it's in a movie, I turn away. I make a choice not to go to violent films. I make a choice not to watch violence on television or read about it." And Winfrey is also unimpressed with the media coverage her presence has attracted to the case. She adds, "This is not good for the victim's family. In the end a man has been murdered. This trial is not about Oprah Winfrey or what Oprah Winfrey did, or what I had to say."

Cindy Crawford Turns Her Back on PETA

Supermodel Cindy Crawford has dealt a blow to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) movement by becoming spokeswoman for fur giant Blackglama. Ten years ago, the former wife of Richard Gere posed for PETA's 'I'd rather go naked than wear fur' campaign, but has followed in Naomi Campbell's footsteps by wearing fur again. Edward Brennan, CEO of American Legend, the marketing cooperative behind Blackglama, told American magazine Women's Wear Daily that Crawford modeled five coats for their recent campaign. He says, "She can have anyone she wants. I hope she took all five." By fronting the Blackglama campaign, Crawford is following in the illustrious footsteps of Rita Hayworth, Bette Davis, Lauren Bacall and Marlene Dietrich.

Slater's Film Pulled from Preview Screening

Christian Slater's latest film has been dramatically pulled from a screening by its director - because he's unhappy with the final edit. Peter Richardson cancelled a preview showing of Churchill: The Hollywood Years just hours before its premiere, so he can make amendments to the movie before its release on September 24. A source explains, "Everyone was turned away at the last minute. It was all very odd. Peter Richardson is not pleased with it and wants to re-edit the film." Spokeswoman Amy Matthews says, "I don't know when there will be another screening or when it will be released." Meanwhile, the movie's depiction of the late British Prime Minister is continuing to spark controversy, because it features Slater portraying him as an American soldier who enjoys a kiss with the future Queen, Elizabeth II, during the Second World War. Norman Harvey Rogers, chairman of The Churchill Society, spits, "I am absolutely disgusted that a film like this has been made. It's despicable and deplorable. It is in the utmost bad taste."

Naomi Sues Over Grief Video

Naomi Watts has added her name to a class action lawsuit against a movie production company after learning that bosses plan to turn footage she volunteered for an instructional video into a new movie. The actress agreed to be interviewed for the hour-long self-help video for grief- stricken parents of kids killed in traffic accidents - after playing a mum struggling to cope with her own tragic loss in 21 Grams. But the movie star has since discovered the project is being turned into a commercial documentary, according to American scandal show Celebrity Justice. She is one of many people involved in the making of the project, who are now suing the bosses of movie company Metaphor Productions. The class action lawsuit alleges those interviewed were betrayed by the producers.

Beyonce's Bodyguard Breaks Her Toe

R&B superstar Beyonce Knowles has been forced to rest for two weeks - after her bodyguard Shortie accidentally broke her toe. The singer was shopping in New York when Shortie trod on her foot whilst trying to protect her from a crowd of over-excited fans. An onlooker says, "There were some fans on his tail and he was too busy watching them to see where he was putting his feet. Beyonce let out a shriek and hobbled back to her car, wincing in pain. She looked angry at first, but then she burst out laughing because you would have thought she had been shot by the way he was reacting." Beyonce won't be holding a grudge against her minder, however. A friend says, "Beyonce knows that Shortie is there to protect her and she also knows that he will always do his best to be by her side."

Holm's Rejected by His Daughters

Lord Of The Rings star Sir Ian Holm fears he'll never see his daughters Jessica and Sarah-Jane again - because they hate the fact he destroyed their family. The girls were the product of the British lothario's first marriage to costume designer Lynne Shaw, but Holm has since married another three times and sired three more children. Now 72, and living in New York with his fourth wife Sophie, Holm admits his eldest daughters are bitter because their dad's wandering eye wrecked their early life. He says, "I have received letters from my daughters Sarah-Jane and Jessica saying they never want to see me again." Holm is revealing all about his many loves and losses in a new autobiography, Acting My Life.

Farrell Will Continue To Party Hard

Colin Farrell plans to continue partying - despite becoming a father last year. The Phone Booth star, 28, is adamant he will still indulge in his hedonistic lifestyle even though he became a dad to son James last September with ex-girlfriend Kim Bordenave. Farrell says, "I feel a greater sense of purpose now but that doesn't mean I won't have my fun. I just don't have to be loud about it."
