American Press Refuses To Retract Olsen Cocaine Claims

Teen star Mary-Kate Olsen is furious two magazines have refused to retract claims she is being treated in rehab for cocaine addiction not anorexia. American tabloids Star and the National Enquirer published front page stories about Mary-Kate's reported drug problem this week, with photographs apparently showing the 18-year-old checking into Utah's Cirque Lodge clinic. Representatives for Olsen and her company Dualstar have threatened legal action - but American Media, who own both magazines, remain unmoved. Spokesman Stu Zakim says, "If they were going to sue us, they would have done it already. Nothing has come forward and that only reinforces the validity of our reporting. We knew how explosive this story would be, and it's been fact-checked and fact-checked and fact-checked. We have all the confidence in the world that our reporting is on the money." Olsen's representative Michael Pagnotta argues, "If (the Enquirer) is the same kind of reporting as in the Star, which we consider to be false, then it would likewise be evaluated by our attorneys. The bottom line is that Mary-Kate was not admitted for drugs, period."

Spears: I Don't Care What Anyone Thinks

Britney Spears refuses to care about what others think of her decision to marry Kevin Federline after just three months of dating. The star fell in love with the dancer after claiming to have "kissed a lot of frogs" - and has compared her relationship with former beau Justin Timberlake as "practice" for experiencing the real thing with Federline. Spears, 22, says, "This is my life and I don't care what other people think. I love this guy. I knew the instant I met him that he was the one for me. I wish other people have what I have. I've kissed a lot of frogs in my life and now I have my prince. I've found my happily ever after. My other loves were like puppy dogs. They were practice for the real thing. I'm feeling everything. I'm excited. Elated. Happy." Spears says of her 55-hour-long Las Vegas marriage to Jason Alexander earlier this year, "I had no idea it would become that big a deal. That thing was a total 'ugh'. I was not in love at all. It was my friend from home and we got crazy in Vegas. So marrying Kevin was the last thing I was thinking about doing. But then I said: 'You know what? This is my life and I don't care what people think.' I'm going to get married. I'm in love with him."

Miramax Rejects Lopez-Anthony Duet

Latina superstar Jennifer Lopez has axed the duet she recorded with Marc Anthony for her new movie Shall We Dance - because movie bosses don't want their marriage to overshadow the film. Miramax are now looking for different stars to re-record Lopez and Anthony's song "Sway," for the romantic comedy, in which she stars alongside Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon. An insider tells website Pagesix.Com, "Her engagement to Ben Affleck didn't help Gigli or Jersey Girl, and her marriage to Marc Anthony isn't going to help Shall We Dance. Miramax doesn't want the publicity focusing on the two of them. They've been through that before. They want to keep the focus on the movie. J.Lo insisted on doing the recording with him (Anthony) in Miami. It cost Miramax more than $100,000." The film will hit American cinemas later this year.

Kidman Told To Leave Beauty Salon

Hollywood star Nicole Kidman was thrown out of a nail bar after she failed to specify exactly which shade of polish she was after, reports a British newspaper. The Oscar-winning beauty, 37, was taking a break from filming The Interpreter in New York when she visited the beauty salon and was told to exit by the manicurist for dithering over which exact tone of red she wanted her nails to be painted. A source tells the Daily Star, "Nicole seemed otherwise preoccupied. Presumably her mind was on her work. But the assistant was hardly sympathetic and was very impatient."

Knightley's Nightmare Audition

British actress Keira Knightley had a nightmare experience auditioning for her upcoming movie The Jacket - she had to stop herself from vomiting on director John Maybury. The 19-year-old Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl star - who appears as an alcoholic waitress alongside Adrien Brody in the film - was unwell when she arrived for the audition with Maybury. She says, "That was an awful audition process because I was actually filming King Arthur in Ireland when I had to go to London and meet the director for this and I got food-poisoning really, really badly. It was 4.30 in the morning and I wake up and I'm puking and I had to get on a plane and it's just the most awful flight. So I went and met this director, John Maybury, and the whole time I was kind of thinking, 'Okay, don't puke over him, don't puke over him! Please!' And it was a lunch meeting, so they had fish as well, which is never good. So I'm thinking that all the time and then he suddenly turns around to me and says, 'Actually, I don't want you in this film. I think you're completely wrong for the role.' I was thinking, 'My God! And I've tried not to puke over you the entire time!'" Knightley was relieved to later learn her efforts were not in vain - Maybury changed his mind and gave her the role.

'Star Trek' Star Has Alzheimer's

Veteran Star Trek actor James Doohan has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The 84-year-old - who is most famous for playing Scotty in the sci-fi program and was often on the receiving end of Captain Kirk's phrase "Beam me up, Scotty" - has been discovered to be suffering from the most common form of dementia. His wife, Wende Doohan, 47, says, "With Jimmy it's the loss of words. He is not so sick yet that he doesn't know people. And there are times when he is sharp as a tack. But it's the older memories that stick. What he had for breakfast might be an iffy thing, but by golly he could tell you all about how he got the part on Star Trek." A Hollywood tribute will be paid to the father-of-three next month.

Bennett Fuming After False Dinner Auction

Legendary crooner Tony Bennett has demanded organizers of a charity auction refund a man who bid $15,000 to eat dinner with the star. Gary Pusateri, 52, placed the high bid in the hope of dining with the singer - but only shook the 77-year-old's hand, before eating on a separate floor of the same restaurant. Bennett, who ate with his own guests, said he never approved the sale of a post- show meal in Baltimore, Maryland eaterie Da Mimmo's on Saturday night, following his gig at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Pusateri, a retired computer analyst from Washington D.C., won the package including "dinner with Tony Bennett" after a fierce bidding battle in an auction to raise money for Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Pusateri explains, "It was a big disappointment. I really wanted to be with him. That's why I bid extra." Mr Bennett's son and manager Danny says, "The decision to auction off a post- show dinner with the singer was made without Mr Bennett's approval or knowledge." A spokesman for John Hopkins Hospital said the charity board was in "ongoing discussions" to resolve the problem, and claim the auctioneer's script had been wrongly worded. The spokesperson says, "It was not the intention to mislead anyone. Here was this man making this fine, generous gesture and we're very sorry that the situation turned out to disappoint him."

Douglas Urges Hollywood To Care for Its Aged

Movie veteran Kirk Douglas is urging today's Hollywood stars to pay a visit to their aging predecessors in a heartfelt new trade paper advertisement. Douglas, 87, was astounded when he first paid a visit to the Motion Picture & Television Fund's headquarters, where silver screen icons are cared for in the autumn of their lives, but he fears modern stars ignore the forgotten greats. So, in a full page ad the actor has taken out in Hollywood's trade papers, the Spartacus star states he wants to "encourage young Hollywood to visit 'the home' and start to contribute to its support". He adds, "I am proud to say we in the entertainment field do take care of our people - those in front of and behind the camera. You may never need its wonderful services, but others will."

Eccentric Billy Bob Thornton has reportedly invited his ex-wife and their two kids to live with him and his pregnant girlfriend in the sprawling Beverly Hills mansion he bought with Angelina Jolie. The Oscar winner's fourth wife Pietra has remained such close friends with Thornton that the two have often been reported to be back together. And now she's playing happy families with her ex and his girlfriend Connie Angland - while her home in Malibu, California, is being treated for rats. According to America's National Enquirer, Pietra and her sons had been living in hotel rooms in Santa Monica, California, before Thornton suggested they move in with him.

Baldwin Denies One-Night Stand with Sex Worker

Hollywood star Alec Baldwin has rubbished Dessarae Bradford's account of their alleged romp - which she detailed in her book My S/M Romp With Alec Baldwin. The author - a former phone sex worker - devotes 57 pages analyzing her alleged one-night sex fest with The Cooler actor - which involved an egg- shaped vibrator, a Hershey chocolate bar and a bottle of baby oil. Bradford - who has headed one chapter in the volume "Stumbling Into His Chest Hairs" - claims to have met Baldwin while walking her dog one day in 2002.
