Paltrow Gives Birth to Baby Girl

Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow has given birth to her first child - a baby girl named Apple Blythe Alison Martin. The Oscar-winning actress and her rocker husband Chris Martin are the proud parents of the baby - weighing a hefty nine pounds and eleven ounces - born in a London hospital on Friday after a "long labor". Coldplay frontman Martin enthuses, "We are 900 miles over the moon, and we'd like to thank everyone at the hospital who have looked after us amazingly." Paltrow is the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and the late director Bruce Paltrow. She recently hinted that she may adopt her mother's approach to motherhood and put her acting career on hold to raise her child.

Moore: Bush Administration Is Trying To Ban My Film

Controversial film-maker Michael Moore has accused President George W. Bush's government of trying to thwart the creation and release of his documentary Fahrenheit 9/11. The Bowling For Columbine director told an audience at the Cannes Film Festival that the President's team feared the effect of the film - which exposes the links between the Bush and Bin Laden families - would spell disaster for the Republican party in the upcoming elections. Moore - who famously cried, 'Shame on you Mr Bush' as he received his Oscar in 2002 - is now hoping Miramax bosses Bob and Harvey Weinstein will distribute the film after Disney refused to. According to Moore, "someone connected to the White House, a top Republican" has put pressure on film companies not to release the movie. Moore explains, "The potential for this film to have an impact on the election was much larger than they thought. It is certainly something the Bush administration does not want people to see."

Law Presented with $18 Million Divorce Settlement

British actor Jude Law is facing a $18 million divorce bill from his ex-wife Sadie Frost. Frost - as part of her divorce settlement demands presented this week in London's High Court - expects Law to pay her a $9 million cash lump sum and the $9 million house they shared with their children. The couple were granted a divorce in October 2003 and have spent the time since preparing for their legal battle over their assets and children. A source tells British tabloid newspaper News Of The World, "Until now they've been arguing on the phone and on occasions have been at each other's throats. Now Jude's got the figures and has been told to consider them. Sadie reckons the £5 million lump sum is just a third of his movie income from the last year in which he's done three films. She argues that she's been with him while his career was growing, through the lean years while he built himself up, and she was his rock. She kept the home going and was there for their three kids." Law - who is dating his What's It All About, Alfie? co-star Sienna Miller - will not have to pay Frost's $36,000 monthly allowance request if she marries her current boyfriend Jackson Scott. The couple's priority concern is the joint custody of their children - Rafferty, seven, Iris, three and 18-month-old Rudy.

Jolie Avoids Jen at Cannes Showbiz Bash

Angelina Jolie avoided a star studded party at the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday - to stop fellow actress Jennifer Aniston from feeling uncomfortable. Aniston was reportedly upset following speculation her husband Brad Pitt had grown close to Jolie whilst filming new movie Mr And Mrs Smith earlier this year. Although the reports were vehemently denied by both parties, Jolie decided to stay in her hotel room with son Maddox instead of joining Pitt and Aniston and stars including Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake, Will Smith and Uma Thurman at the bash at the exclusive Hotel Du Cap. A source tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, "She didn't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable and thought it best to stay in her suite - and eliminate any chance of bumping into Jennifer."

Diaz Has Cannes Acne Emergency

Screen beauty Cameron Diaz had a skin-care crisis at the Cannes Film Festival this weekend - when her face broke out in acne. The Charlie's Angels stunner was in the French city to attend the premiere of animation sequel Shrek 2 and had to call in her beauty experts to correct the unsightly blemishes. A source close to Justin Timberlake's belle says, "The zits flared up the night before - it was a case of all hands on deck to make her look like her normal self. They worked for ages to give her a perfect complexion. Cameron has problem skin like a lot of girls. It tends to flare up when she is stressed or has too many late nights. But she looked great for the big night, though she headed home from the party afterwards before midnight for a good night's rest."

Coppola and Tarantino Share Suite

Movie makers Sofia Coppola and Quentin Tarantino's reported romance is blossoming - they've been sharing a hotel suite at the Cannes Film Festival. The Kill Bill director is on the jury panel at the annual French Riviera event and walked down the red carpet with the Lost In Translation creator at the festival's opening day on Wednesday. According to British newspaper the Daily Express, Cannes sources claim the pair are sharing a suite at the Carlton Hotel. Tarantino has been single for quite some time, while Coppola split from her husband Spike Jonze last year.

Spector Arrested for Chauffeur Bust-Up

Troubled music producer Phil Spector has been arrested for fighting with his chauffeur at his Californian mansion. Spector - currently awaiting trial on a murder charge -and his driver Tobie Wheeler were both arrested on suspicion of assault after police arrived at the music legend's home on Friday, and found the pair attempting to place each other under citizen's arrest. Police Lieutenant Elliot Kase explains, "They had an issue over their business relationship. We're not exactly sure what the issue was, but they didn't seem to come to an agreement. It was mutual combat, so they chose to arrest each other." Spector was taken into custody and later released and will return to court on June 14 - while Wheeler remained in custody. Both men claim to have suffered minor injuries.

Jackson Prosecutors Plea To Uphold Gagging Order

Prosecutors in the forthcoming Michael Jackson child molestation trial have urged the Californian Supreme Court to uphold the gagging order. Santa Barbara county's District Attorneys Thomas Sneddon and Gerald Franklin say the ban on anyone involved in the high-profile case talking to the media about Jackson must continue. The pop superstar was arrested last November and charged with ten felony counts last month, including administering an intoxicating agent, committing lewd acts with children and conspiracy to commit child abduction. The DA's letter reads, "What is reported as 'fact' becomes the nucleus of intense speculation, conjecture and discussion among commentators, particularly in the tabloid media, and the audience they appeal to." Since the gag order began, news organizations have requested the ban to be lifted, to no avail. The Supreme Court are deciding whether to hear the case and have asked both the District Office and media organizations to submit arguments.

Winslet's 'Romance & Cigarettes' Set Goes Up in Smoke

British actress Kate Winslet was caught up in a real life drama on the set of upcoming movie Romance & Cigarettes - when a fire broke out. The Titanic beauty was filming a fantasy sequence with on-screen love interest James Gandolfini in which he dreams of becoming a firefighter and rescuing her from a burning building. In between takes, the special effects sparked onto a beam in the abandoned building and started burning. Luckily a group of off-duty New York firefighters were on set to serenade Winslet in the scene and were able to rush to the aid of the panicking film crew. A movie insider says, "Kate was never in any real danger." Trucks from a nearby FDNY rushed to the set and actor Steve Buscemi, who was a fireman before starting his acting career, also helped dampen the flames. Fortunately no-one was hurt during the fire, which took an hour to put out.

Beckham Becomes an American Idol

Soccer star David Beckham has finally achieved stardom in America - he's to be the first British sportsman to appear on the cover of US fashion bible Vanity Fair. The Real Madrid player will be snapped by acclaimed photographer Annie Leibovitz for July cover shoot - which will place him amongst the likes of superstars Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and George Clooney. But, more importantly, it will increase his profile stateside - where he already adorns billboards advertising Police sunglasses and a film dedicated to him, Bend It Like Beckham, has been a box office hit. Last summer Beckham and his former Spice Girl wife Victoria Beckham failed to capture the attention of the American media while Victoria was modeling for Damon Dash's Rocawear fashion line - but since then the star has wowed Spanish football fans and stunned the world with allegations of infidelity with his former assistant Rebecca Loos. A source at Vanity Fair says, "You know you've cracked America when you get on the cover of Vanity Fair. David Beckham should feel honored. The theme of the shoot is to show how David is a true icon."
