Diana Ross Convicted of DUI

Soul veteran Diana Ross has been convicted of driving under the influence (DUI) and ordered to spend two days in jail. The singer, who telephoned into Tucson, Arizona's city court hearing from New York yesterday, pleaded no contest to DUI. Two related charges were dropped. Tucson Magistrate T. Jay Cranshaw found Ross guilty and sentenced her to serve 48 hours in jail before March 9. She was also sentenced to a year of unsupervised probation. Ross, 59, was originally charged with driving under the influence, driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 per cent or more and extreme DUI with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15 per cent or more. Tucson police arrested her on December 30, 2002, after a driver called to report a car traveling southbound in the northbound lanes just outside the city's north-east limits. Breath test results showed Ross had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.20 per cent. Arizona's legal limit is 0.08.

Zeta-Jones "Jealous" of Kidman

Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones dumped her longtime talent agent because she's jealous of the success of Nicole Kidman, according to movie insiders. The Welsh stunner fired William Morris agent George Freeman, who has represented her for 10 years, after husband Michael Douglas advised her to do so. And Hollywood sources say Zeta-Jones made her move to rival agency Creative Artists Agency last week because she's frustrated that Kidman gets first refusal, writes website Page Six. An insider says, "Nicole gets first look at every script. Catherine doesn't. Nicole and Catherine had very similar careers until Nicole's divorce from Tom Cruise. Then audiences found her sympathetic. No one finds Catherine a very sympathetic character or as likeable. It is shocking. George took this little-known British actress that no one cared about and made her into an Oscar winner. She is an ungrateful diva who has not had a career misstep and it is inconceivable that she would screw George like this. He just got her $10 million for Zorro 2. A lot of this was Michael's doing. He pecked away at Catherine, saying, 'Why didn't you get this part? Why didn't you get that part?'" But Zeta-Jones's spokesperson, Cece York, says, "It has only ever been my experience that Michael fully supports Catherine. He has his own projects. The reason Catherine left William Morris is between her and the agency. People change agencies - it happens all the time - and the Zorro deal has not been signed."

Gibson Asks California Church Leaders for Film Support

Mel Gibson took part in a satellite interview on Saturday to answer worried Christians' questions about his new movie. The Braveheart star beamed the live chat to 3,800 invited guests at Azusa Pacific University in California in a bid to encourage them to support his controversial new film The Passion Of The Christ. Religious leaders have been mixed about the project because it features graphic scenes of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. But Gibson told his guests - all Californian religious community leaders - that he's convinced his film will be widely embraced. He also explained he made the movie as a bid to pay a penance for his own good fortune and high living. He said, "You get to a place where you have to reevaluate your insides and like, change, because, you know, I'm a monster. I mean I can be. I've been offered every kind of excess that money and fame brings and it's not good enough."

Hilary's New Man

Teenage pop sensation Hilary Duff has a new mystery actor boyfriend who she has been dating for just a month. The pretty blonde, who once dated Aaron Carter, admits she's smitten with her new man, called Jordan - although she still worries about keeping a romance going while she tours the world and works on films and albums. She says, "I do have a boyfriend right now. We've known each other a year. We saw each other for like a month-and-a-half when we were like seeing other people at the same time. He is in the business. He's an actor who has auditions and whatever. I thought I can't have a boyfriend because I work so much and I'm always out of town. He's pretty good about it. He understands that I go out of town for months and months at a time."

Bodyguard & Doctor Step Up To Support Gest

David Gest's British bodyguard and his Hawaii-based doctor could cost his estranged wife Liza Minnelli $10 million if their divorce battle hits the courts. Both Londoner Iman Handy and Dr Leo Meyer will be asked for their testimony on the stand - and both will tell how producer Gest was beaten up by the singer. Handy also claims he was attacked by Minnelli when he stepped in to break up a fight between the couple. He says, "She was bashing David, not in a boxing style sense, but more like punching swimming, where they're (the punches) going over the head. She punched me in the stomach and I was like, 'Woah, she can punch.' It's like The Incredible Hulk - he's a green monster and he doesn't know what the other side does. Alcohol can do a lot of things to you." And Gest's doctor admits he'll gladly testify against Minnelli because he's convinced she beat her husband. In an interview with America's Dateline news show, Dr Leo Meyer said, "He has intractable common migraine headache, secondary to traumatic brain injury. There's nothing metabolically abnormal. There's no stroke, bleed abscess, no tumor, no aneurysm, but he was assaulted on five specific occasions over a year, based on what he told me and what his personnel told me. The role of the physician is a primary advocate for the patient. If you don't believe what the patient is telling you then you probably shouldn't be involved in that relationship."

Kidman Plans Oscar Bash for Watts

Nicole Kidman is so confident her best friend Naomi Watts will win an Oscar next month, she's already organized a party for her. Watts' performance in 21 Grams has bagged her a Best Actress nomination, and impressed Kidman wants her fellow Australian native to bask in the same glory she experienced last year, when she won the coveted prize for her role in The Hours. An insider says, "Nicole and Naomi grew up together and have always been there for each other. This is the kind of thing they used to dream of back in Australia. Nicole had her moment and won her Oscar and she's told Naomi it would give her even more pleasure to see her get one."

Minnie Driver Attacks Globalization

British actress Minnie Driver was horrified to discover the level of exploitation endured by factory workers in Cambodia. The Good Will Hunting actress has called on the international community to limit the effects of globalization on workers in developing countries, during a trip to Phnom Penh. The 34-year-old - visiting the region as part of British charity Oxfam International's Make Trade Fair campaign - wants western corporations to "really consider their buying practices". During her visit, some garment workers wore clothes with the slogan, "Made in Cambodia...by us...US$0.25 per hour". Driver says, "The poorest people with the least are making sacrifices for those of us who have the most. I'm a consumer with my point of view from the west, and I came here in a massive state of ignorance - an ignorance that was only revealed as I learned. Every time they squeeze to get lower production costs, faster production, it's nobody but the working women who suffer, and so do their families back at home."

Biggs Jets To New York on Hell Flight

American Pie star Jason Biggs had the plane flight from hell on Friday when the American Airlines pilot flying him to New York turned to God. The unnamed pilot started the flight by announcing he had just returned from Central America, where he had become a fervent Christian. He then asked Christian passengers to raise their hands and criticized everyone else. He later apologized to his crew for his comments. A passenger on the flight, on which Biggs was in first class, says, "He put the fear of God into us. It was a very uncomfortable flight." American Airlines bosses are considering reprimanding the pilot, but admit they welcome employees from all religions, creed and walks of life and they have no flight rules for staff who preach.

Keaton: Nicholson Made Up Romance To Sell Our Film

Movie legend Jack Nicholson invented a real-life romance with co-star Diane Keaton to sell their latest film Something's Gotta Give, according to Keaton herself. The veteran actors - who first worked together on Warren Beatty's 1981 film Reds - reportedly fell in love while filming the romantic comedy. But the Annie Hall star, 58, insists the rumor was just another of the Batman star's mischievous stunts. She says, "You know Jack! He wants to sell the movie. He's the great entertainer. He'll say anything." But the Oscar-winning actress admits she felt a huge attraction for the 66-year- old screen legend. She adds, "I've had the biggest crush on him for 20 years. How can you not, even now? He's irresistible. Did I tell him that? Sure, he knows. I told him all the time."

Paris' Party Performance

American socialite Paris Hilton launched a desperate campaign to be included on the guest list for a glitzy post-Grammy party - by plaguing a record company boss with phone calls. The 22-year-old star of reality show The Simple Life was so eager to be invited to Clive Davis' legendary bash, she contacted the J Records executive relentlessly prior to Sunday's ceremony. But Davis - who was disgusted by Hilton's behavior - refused to bow to her requests and the blonde party girl had to gatecrash the event with help from boyfriend Nick Carter, who was invited to the bash with his band The Backstreet Boys. A spokesperson for Davis says, "Paris wouldn't be on his guest list. Clive Davis' parties are legendary and his list is for musical royalty." And revelers at the glitzy party - who included Sean 'P Diddy' Combs, Jay-z, Alicia Keys and 50 Cent - were left cold by Paris' party etiquette. A source says, "We couldn't believe it when we saw Paris acting as if she was top of the guest list. The day before there had been a flurry of calls to Mr. Davis, which got progressively more desperate. Who would think that someone of her supposed stature would have to beg for tickets. She's obviously not as important as she thinks she is."
