'Superman' Makers in Angry Feud

Superman director Brett Ratner and producer Jon Peters have launched head first into a screaming match on the set of the Warner Brothers lot - where the troubled Man-of-Steel film is shrouded in production woes. Tempers reportedly flared between the two, culminating in Ratner and Peters screaming insults at each other over the slow-pace casting of the picture last Friday. A set insider says, "It was a closed-door meeting, but you could hear them screaming at each other inside the office. At one point, Peters started belittling Ratner. He said, 'Oh, you think you're a big man now?' It got so bad that someone had to separate them." Warner Bros bosses are said to still be smarting over hunk actor Josh Hartnett's decision to pass on donning the Superman cape. Jude Law and Ashton Kutcher have also treated the role with caution, not keen to commit to a trilogy of Superman movies that could take ten years to complete. Brendan Fraser, Paul Walker, Hayden Christensen and soap star Matthew Bomer are still in the running. And sources say pop sensation Justin Timberlake was sent a script this week in the hope he'll take on the role of Clark Kent's sidekick Jimmy Olsen.

Tobey Maguire to Tie the Knot?

Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire is marrying girlfriend Jennifer Meyer this summer - after proposing outside her Hollywood apartment in his Mercedes car. Best pal Leonardo DiCaprio is expected to be Tobey's best man when he ties the knot to Jen - whose dad is Universal Studios president Ron Meyer. A close pal of the couple, "Tobey and Jennifer have been friends for years and have been dating since late last year. They met when he was engaged to her best friend, Quincy Jones's daughter Rashida." A Hollywood insider adds, "They're madly in love."

Bridget Fonda to Wed

Bridget Fonda has something to look forward to as she recovers from a horror car crash that almost claimed her life last month - she's set to wed for the first time. After a string of high-profile romances with the likes of country star Dwight Yoakam and Eric Stoltz, the 39-year-old actress has settled for former Oingo Boingo singer-turned-top film composer Danny Elfman. A pal says, "Bridget has finally met the man of her dreams. She's had a rocky romantic life and I'm glad she's settling down before she turns 40. They truly make the perfect couple." Fonda's spokeswoman Nancy Seltzer has confirmed the engagement, adding, "Bridget is extremely happy." It's great news for the Jackie Brown star after she lost control of her Jaguar on rain-soaked Malibu roads on February 27 and crashed. She was treated at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles and is now said to be doing fine.

Joel Was Drinking Before Crash

Pop legend Billy Joel has confessed to police he'd been drinking champagne the night he smashed his Mercedes into a tree - despite his publicist insisting he hadn't. Claire Mercury told reporters that the "Uptown Girl" star had "abstained" while his two friends had drinks, in the hours leading up to the crash in Long Island, New York. But local newspaper, the East Hampton Star, has released the police report which includes Police Chief Thomas Fabiano's interview with Joel the day after his accident. Joel told the chief he'd had "a glass of champagne during dinner." The report states that "the last thing he remembers is drifting off the roadway and striking a tree." Meanwhile Mercury won't admit she lied to reporters. At the time, she dismissed reports of Joel's drinking as "gossip by somebody who was not at the scene." Since learning that Joel admitted to drinking alcohol, Mercury says, "He does not recall the details of the conversation with the police. He had just had a very bad accident." Joel was also on prescription medication following nasal surgery the week before the crash. She told the East Hampton paper, "We feel we have told this story and there's nothing more to say." In other news, Joel is to join the pop star wannabes on American TV talent show American Idol. The "Piano Man" will join the final 12 contestants next week as part of a show where the finalists will sing a handful of his classics. Joel reportedly agreed to take part in the show because his daughter Alexa is a huge fan of the show.

J.Lo: Call Me Affleck

Curvaceous superstar Jennifer Lopez is set to give her fiance Ben Affleck the ultimate honor when she marries him - she plans to adopt his surname. The twice-married New York native, 32, has confirmed that she will use Affleck both personally and professionally after she and her hunky beau walk down the aisle. The Wedding Planner star J.Lo, who says she has yet to set a date for her proposed nuptials, didn't extend the honor to ex-husbands Ojani Noa and Cris Judd.

Moss and Hack Not Engaged

Supermodel Kate Moss is denying reports she's planning to marry her publisher boyfriend Jefferson Hack - even though photographs clearly reveal a sparkly ring on her wedding finger. The British babe, who has previously been linked to Edward Scissorhands actor Johnny Depp, has no immediate intention of marrying long-term beau Hack. The 29-year-old says, "No, he hasn't proposed. I haven't thought about it. He's the sweetest man I've ever met - definitely."

Spring Splits in Hollywood

Romance isn't in the air in Hollywood this week thanks to a trio of high profile splits. Oscar winner Mira Sorvino has confirmed she and Olivier Martinez are no longer an item, Sex & The City star Kim Cattrall's on-again-off-again marriage to writer Mark Levinson is over and Rosemary Clooney's son Miguel Ferrer is also heading for splitsville. Sorvino had been dating French hunk Martinez for three years and confessed just three months ago that she was thinking about quitting Hollywood to live in Paris with her man. But, when Martinez was spotted courting Kylie Minogue in Los Angeles' swanky Chateau Marmont hotel last month, gossips suggested his romance with Mira was over. And now it is. Cattrall laughed off reports that she and Levinson, who co-wrote sex book Satisfaction: The Art Of The Female Orgasm with the actress, were heading for a split last year, but the couple are living apart, according to the latest reports. And Ferrer's 11-year marriage to Leilani Sarelle, who played Sharon Stone's lesbian love interest in Basic Instinct, is over. The couple have two children, Lucas, nine, and Rafael, six. A family friend tells American tabloid Globe, "It's very sad. Leilani moved out of the house a few weeks ago. Everyone was in tears."

Nolte: "Drug Arrest Helped Me"

Actor Nick Nolte credits his arrest for driving under the influence of drugs for helping kick his addictions. The Affliction star was pulled over by police in Los Angeles last September after they spotted him driving erratically. Tests showed he was under the influence of banned date rape drug GHB. In December he was sentenced to three years' probation and made to undergo counseling and random drug testing. But rather than regret the experience, Nolte insists the arrest and subsequent global media attention forced him to be more "open" about his problems and helped him finally deal with his substance abuse. Nolte - currently promoting new movie The Good Thief, in which he plays a heroin addict - says, "Being out on the road drunk and driving isn't a good thing, and I'm glad I didn't have an accident. I was relieved when the siren came on because I knew it was over - the substance abuse, that is. It's something you deal with, and you take care of it, and you can keep it under control. Now the trick is not to relapse and that's a matter of just daily vigilance. It's like having a disease. If you had a cancer on your skin and had it burned it off, you'd wash it and clean it every day."

Cher's Wig Returned

Superstar singer Cher's stolen wig has been returned to a police station in Virginia. The hair piece - valued at $8,000 - went missing from her Richmond concert to the Believe star's horror. The wig was handed in by a woman after a police employee overheard a man talking about having the wig and informed officials. The man, who was questioned, admitted to giving the wig to a woman outside the concert on February 25 at the Richmond Coliseum. It is not yet known how the pair broke into the locked room where the hair piece was housed. Police spokesperson Christie Collins says, "At this point in the investigation, it is believed that these folks were fans. Part of the investigation is how they got into that room."

Al Pacino Heads Back to Broadway

Hollywood actor Al Pacino is set to make his way back to Broadway this spring. The screen star, who appeared Off Broadway in the autumn in The Resistible Rise Of Arturo Ui, will be featuring in Oscar Wilde's Salome. Pacino will play Herod, reprising a role he's done before Off Broadway. Marisa Tomei will star in the title role. Dates have yet to be set for the arrival of Salome, but the production will open at New York's Ethel Barrymore Theater sometime this spring.
