Britney Is World's Top Celebrity

Pop superstar Britney Spears is the world's top celebrity, according to Forbes magazine's annual power survey. The 20-year-old "Baby, One More Time" singer heads the list of 100 names based on their fortunes and the media attention they attract. Britney, who last year came fourth in the list, was said to have earned $40 million last year and enjoyed nearly a million hits on her website. She beat golfing star Tiger Woods, number two for the second year running, with movie mastermind Steven Spielberg third and pop queen Madonna fourth. Irish rockers U2 took fifth place and were the only non-Americans in the top 10. The remainder of the top 10 sees pop quintet 'N Sync at six, Mariah Carey at seven, Oprah Winfrey at eight, basketball legend Michael Jordan ninth and Oscar winner Tom Hanks coming in tenth. But last year's top celebrity, Tom Cruise, fails to make this year's list whatsoever following his divorce from actress Nicole Kidman, who takes 27th place. A Forbes spokesperson says, "We pointed out last year that his divorce could have a detrimental effect on his star status and earnings potential."

Flockhart To Join Ford in Indiana Jones?

Actress Calista Flockhart is apparently planning to team up with boyfriend Harrison Ford in the next Indiana Jones movie. Filming on Indiana Jones 4 is due to begin in May 2004, with the film looking more adult than its 1980s predecessors. A source says, "Harrison Ford had only one demand when he was approached about doing a fourth Indiana Jones movie - that Calista be written into the new movie. Luckily, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas loved the idea. They think Calista will be a perfect romantic interest for Indiana." And having the ex-Ally McBeal star on board solved one problem for the filmmakers. The source says, "The Indy team had no idea what to do with Indy for the fourth movie. Bringing Calista on board gave them inspiration and they dreamed up the whole story in just a few hours. Getting Calista into the movie was the kick-in-the-pants the guys needed."

Supermodel Cindy: 'I Want To Go Into Space'

Sexy supermodel Cindy Crawford has revealed she is considering an offer to travel into space with Russian cosmonauts. The gauntlet was thrown down to Cindy - who was married to Hollywood star Richard Gere and now has two children with hubby Rande Gerber - earlier this month when Valery Korzun, the commander of the International Space Station, rubbished reports that 'N Sync singer Lance Bass would be accompanying him on a space mission, saying he'd rather see Crawford aboard the space station. But rather than laugh off the challenge, sexy Cindy says she loves the idea and is waiting for a formal invitation, provided the trip fits in with her busy schedule. On a trip to Moscow, she told reporters, "I would go if I could be there and back in a week. If they invite me, maybe, I don't know." Media reports have claimed 23-year-old Bass is preparing for an October mission - which would make him the third 'space tourist' after businessmen Dennis Tito last year and Mark Shuttleworth, who blasted off in April. Both Tito and Shuttleworth are reported to have paid $20 million for their seats aboard a Soyuz craft - funds sorely needed by Russia's cash-strapped space program.

Shannon Elizabeth Ties The Knot

Fans of American Pie star Shannon Elizabeth will be heartbroken at the news the Hollywood beauty has wed. Sexy Shannon tied the knot with her longtime lover Joseph D. Reitman last Saturday in Mexico. Although there is no confirmation on exactly where the twosome tied the knot, the 28-year-old actress did tell this month's In Style magazine that they were eyeing a small beachfront ceremony, possibly at Hotelito Desconocido, a resort south of Puerto Vallarta where they've vacationed previously. But she added, "We were worried we'd get bored. It's a place with no TVs, no phones, no anything." Reitman, 34, has appeared in TV shows Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed, as well as movies Clueless and The Perfect Storm. He's also had bit parts in several of Elizabeth's movies. The couple, engaged since November 1999, share a love of animals, having teamed up to found an animal rescue organization called Animal Avengers. Shannon says, "When I worry about things going on in the world and keeping me safe and my fiancé safe, I worry about keeping my animals safe. I have been trying to find gas masks for dogs. I have a vet friend who said that somebody in his office got some."

Stressed Winona Skips Premiere

Alleged shoplifter Winona Ryder snubbed the New York premiere of her new movie Mr. Deeds because she is nervous about her court case. The Dracula beauty was arrested in December for allegedly stealing $4,900 worth of designer goods from Beverly Hills store Saks Fifth Avenue, and faces charges of theft and possession of a controlled sunbstance. When the romantic comedy opened in the Big Apple on Tuesday, Winona was nowhere to be seen. Her representative explains, "She is in the heart of other issues going on. I think she has done her best to support the picture."

Bono Discusses Africa With Chirac

U2 frontman Bono met French President Jacques Chirac Thursday to discuss Africa, the third world and a summit of industrialized nations. The "Beautiful Day" singer, who recently joined United States Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill on a tour of Africa to press for debt relief, attended a meeting at the presidential Elysee Palace. Bono and Chirac discussed the forthcoming Group of Eight meeting in Canada, which will be held next week.

Claudia Buys Mountain On Majorca

Supermodel Claudia Schiffer has splashed out nearly $1.5 million on a secluded mountain in Majorca so she can hide from the prying eyes of tourists or potential stalkers. Claudia is reportedly so irritated by the hordes of holidaymakers peering into the garden of the villa she already owns on the Mediterranean island that she has paid long-time friend King Juan Carlos of Spain $1.47 million for 150 square miles of wilderness on a peninsula on the south-west. The 31-year-old German is now building a home on the land for herself and her new husband, movie producer Matthew Vaughn. The new house - which will feature a swimming pool, fitness suite and triple garage - will be Claudia's seventh worldwide. She has homes in New York, London, Germany and Monte Carlo, plus a $7.5 million Coldham Hall in Suffolk, England, where she wed in May. Her spokesman Sean Pretchard says, "She's been building a house on Majorca for two years. She has had a house on the island for a number of years and she just wants a larger one."

Woody Allen To Relocate?

Woody Allen may be on the verge of leaving his beloved New York City to relocate to Europe. According to the New York Post's Page Six, the award-winning auteur - who has always found greater appreciation of his work in Europe - has bought a property in Venice, Italy, for himself, wife Soon-Yi and their children. Despite further rumors hinting of a move to Paris, some are convinced any relocation would be a financial one. Allen's Manhattan apartment is valued at $15 million, and in the wake of his lawsuit against ex-partner Jean Doumanian and Jacqui Safra, he may see Europe as a cheaper alternative than the pricey island.

Weisz To Become Chief Brit Export

Rachel Weisz is set to replace Kate Winslet as the most in-demand British actress in Hollywood after signing a deal with one of Tinseltowns's biggest studios. The brunette actress' contract with Steven Spielberg's Dreamworks is believed to be worth $11.2 million for two movies. The first movie, an adaptation of John Grisham's novel Runaway Jury, will team the 31-year-old with John Cusack, Gene Hackman and Dustin Hoffman. The second project pits her alongside Jack Black and Ben Stiller in a romantic comedy entitled Envy. The new projects will elevate her into the same pay bracket as fellow Brit Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Aspiring Actress Dies on 'Analyze That' Set

An aspiring young actress has died mysteriously after invading the camera truck on the set of Robert De Niro's new movie Analyze That. Connecticut native Amanda Winklevoss, 23, was not involved in the sequel to De Niro and Billy Crystal's 1999 hit Analyze This but came across the production on Manhattan's 10th Avenue last Friday night. A source told the New York Post, "The movie was being filmed in the building, and there was a camera truck on the street with a ramp leading from the truck to the street." Winklevoss, ignoring her friends' protests, allegedly walked into the truck uninvited. The source continues, "The people in the truck asked her to leave, and the next thing they knew, they heard her scream." The camera crew rushed the unconscious Winklevoss to St. Vincent's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. A Warner Bros. insider says, "She fell from the truck - they don't know if she had a seizure, or what happened. Winklevoss entered an area where she was not supposed to be. She was an uninvited guest." Friends believed she may have been electrocuted - one pal recalls, "It was rainy and horrible that night. When she left the truck Amanda stepped into a puddle, and there was a cable in it. Her parents are very genteel old money in Greenwich and don't want to cause a stink, but we want to know if she was electrocuted." A Warner representative says, "Our hearts go out to Miss Winklevoss' family and friends. We are cooperating fully with the investigation into the cause of this terrible tragedy." Police are investigating and an autopsy was performed before her funeral Wednesday. A police source adds, "From what we understand, pending the toxicology report, the doctor at St. Vincent's who pronounced her dead said Winklevoss had the look of a cocaine or alcohol-type overdose."
