Seinfeld Attacks The Emmy Awards

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld is celebrating the postponement of the Emmy Awards - branding it an event for "losers". Seinfeld made the comments at his 'Stand Up For New York' comedy night at the city's Carnegie Hall. The star stunned high-profile guests such as former president Bill Clinton as he launched an attack on the awards show, which was postponed for the second time this year on Sunday following air strikes on Afghanistan. He told the audience, "I cannot tell you how happy I am that the goddamn Emmys were not on. "The Emmys are... stupid. They're there so that attention-starved losers can all congratulate each other on having a job." As for Seinfeld's own Emmy experiences, his eponymous sitcom was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series seven times and won once, while he was personally nominated for acting five times and once for writing, losing on all occasions. His most recent nomination, an Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special nomination for his I'm Telling You For The Last Time special, also fizzled, putting his record at one for fourteen.
Book Claims Madonna Had 11 Abortions

Superstar Madonna has had 11 abortions in her life - according to an unauthorized biography by Barbara Victor. In new book Goddess, Victor says the Material Girl would be the mother of 13 children if she had retained her catholic beliefs of termination being wrong. Victor says, "She had a pregnancy in between Lourdes and Rocco. It was with a British man." The last abortion is alleged to have taken place just before Madonna met her husband Guy Ritchie.
Drew Barrymore Makes Up With Mom
Drew Barrymore has announced she's officially patched things up with her estranged mother Jaid Barrymore. The 26-year-old actress, who recently married comedian Tom Green, says she reconciled with her parent last year after a frosty decade. Drew says she got the urge to reconcile because of her new movie Riding In Cars With Boys, in which she plays an aspiring writer who gives birth at 15 and winds up in a failed marriage with the drug-addicted father. She says, "There's a scene where my water breaks, and I yell out, 'Mom!' and it was sort of like me calling out to her. It was very cathartic." The duo decided to meet and work on a reconciliation. Escorted by Drew's husband. Barrymore recalls, "Eventually we got to where we could hang out on our own, but there were a lot of real crazy emotions flying all over the place. The one thing my mom said to break the ice was that we [had] really needed to separate to become our own people before we could come together again. I respect that."
Farrah: Still Human

Ageing sex symbol Farrah Fawcett has slammed speculation she went under the surgeons knife following an appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman. Audience members at the American chat show sparked reports that the new Spin City cast-member had undergone a last-minute 'nip and tuck'. One onlooker said, "She looked so puffy. Something happened. Her cheeks were blown up." However Fawcett's manager Mark Burg denies any surgery. Burg - who has been romantically linked to his client - says, "I've gotten so many calls on this Farrah's had no work done, she looks great naturally. You don't know how many calls I got about how beautiful she looked. She hasn't had time to get any surgery - she hasn't stopped working. She's the best looking 53-year-old on the planet!"
Reeve's World Trade Center Loss
Superman hero Christopher Reeve has spoken out about his personal loss following the September 11th attacks on America. The actor, who was paralyzed following a horse riding accident in 1995, lost six friends when the World Trade Center collapsed. On the subject of breaking the news to his nine-year-old son Will Reeve says, "Up until September 11th, he believed the world was a secure and peaceful place, and now he is acutely aware that there is an unknown danger. I've noticed that he needs reassurance every day just about little things - what the plan is after school, who's going to pick him up, what we are doing tomorrow, is Dad going to be home."
Joan Rivers Locked In Bitter Battle With Love Rival

Acid-tongued TV personality Joan Rivers is locked in a bitter catfight - with a woman now dating her ex-fiance. The outspoken star was horrified to learn that her former lover, banking heir Orin Lehman, is now enjoying a relationship with former screen star Monique Van Vooren - and she chose Howard Stern's controversial New York radio show to express her disgust last week. Rivers accused Lehman of spending his time with "Euro-trash hookers" while on air. In retaliation, Belgian-born van Vooren fumes, "I guess all those face-lifts have gone to her head. She may have once been funny, but now she's just being cruel and making herself an object of scorn. She's one to talk. She's got more miles on her than an old Checker cab. As for dear Orin, he's been a friend of mine before Rivers came along, while they were together and after he wisely dumped her."
Bond Slams Austin Powers Tales

007 star Pierce Brosnan is staying serious - the star insists he'll not lend his talents to upcoming spoof sequel Austin Powers In Goldmember. Brosnan was reported to be making a cameo appearance in the Mike Myers film, but spokesman Dick Guttman says Brosnan is about to start work on his new film Evelyn, and once that is finished he will begin making the new James Bond movie straight away. "I don't know where these stories come from," Guttman says. "Pierce is in Ireland until Christmas, then will be starting work on the new Bond so I don't even know where he would get the time. His calendar is gone for the next year already."
Gere: Deal With Terrorists With Love And Compassion
Dalai Lama devotee Richard Gere is preaching that the best way for Americans to deal with the 11 September terrorist attacks is with "the medicine of love and compassion." The Buddhist actor is a great believer in karma and stresses the importance of pity for everyone - including terrorists. He insists we must also think about "the terrorists who are creating such horrible future lives for themselves because of the negativity of this karma. If you see it from a much wider point of view, we're all in this together. We're all intimately interconnected in all of these actions." He adds, "It's all of our jobs to keep our minds as expansive as possible. If you can see them [the terrorists] as a relative who's dangerously sick and we have to give them medicine, and the medicine is love and compassion. There's nothing better."
Gay Singers Clamor To Grunt With Russell Crowe
Russell Crowe was horrified when gay fans threw their underwear on the stage to him while he performed with his rock band 30 Odd Foot Of Grunts in San Francisco recently. Russell announced he would keep his words short because, "The more I talk the more time certain people have to throw their underwear on the stage." But the star had little knowledge that his macho ways, rippling muscles and tough-talking have earned him God-like status within San Francisco's homosexual community - so much so that gay singers in the area are bending over backwards for the chance to share the stage with Crowe and his Grunts the next time they perform there. A member of the Lesbian & Gay Chorus Of San Francisco says, "I'm sure he wouldn't have any problems in getting a gay choir to perform with him the next time he brings his band to San Francisco. There's also a Gay Men's choir here in town and they'd all be happy for a shot at singing with him. If he's really serious about tapping into our audience, we'd welcome him with open arms. People who make an extra effort to support the gay community are gonna be embraced. It really helps your popularity. You'll earn a lot of loyal fans who will stand by you no matter what." And members of the choir see no reason for the star to be surprised about his newly-acquired homosexual fans - because he's the ideal gay icon. The choir member continues, "Anybody who's an icon of macho is going to eventually become a homosexual icon. His almost caveman ways are what really appeal to a lot of the guys here. He's almost a parody of a rugged type of man. That definitely adds a camp element to his image. Nobody would ever make fun of him for his ways, but people definitely have a sense of humour about Russell Crowe - more so than he seems to have." Despite his current spate of he-man roles, one of Russell's breakthrough roles, in which he proved his abilities as a serious actor, was as a gay man in 1994's The Sum of Us.
