Farrell Fights Off Bandits... For Real

According to Army Archerd's Thursday column, seven members of the filming team on Hart's War were attacked by bandits, described as "gypsies," in a late night robbery attempt in Prague. Among the group were producer David Ladd and up-and-coming Irish actor Colin Farrell. Ladd was robbed, but Archerd reports that Farrell "beat one of his attackers, sending him flying." When Archerd asked if star Bruce Willis had been accosted by the gypsies, Ladd laughingly replied "No one made that fatal mistake." (Editor's note: This news item was compiled by IMDb staff.)

DiCaprio And Gisele To Wed In Venice

Hollywood heart-throb Leonardo DiCaprio is to marry his supermodel lover Gisele Bundchen in Venice this summer. Leo decided the Italian city was the perfect wedding venue after spending time in Italy while filming Gangs Of New York with Cameron Diaz. School friend Andrew Patton reveals, "Leo travelled to Venice while in Italy and he loves it. It's evidently a very romantic place and it is one of Gisele's favorite cities as well." The couple are reported to be planning a low-key ceremony with family and close friends in attendance. The Brazilian beauty is expected to wear a simple white slip dress and will be accompanied by her five stunning sisters.

Jude Law To Play Young Hannibal

Movie pretty boy Jude Law is being lined up to play the young Hannibal Lecter. Studio bosses are said to be keen to recruit the fine-boned British actor to star in a remake of the original Hannibal film, Manhunter. The film, based on Red Dragon, the first of the Thomas Harris books to feature the cannibalistic serial killer, was filmed in 1986 with Brian Cox taking the lead role of the fiendish villain. Ted Tally, who wrote the screenplay for The Silence Of The Lambs, is working on the script and is thought to be keen to snap up the British actor.

Thompson Flashes Her Backside To Calm Co-star's Nerves

Emma Thompson bared her backside on the opening day of filming new TV movie Wit to help her co-star relax. The actress plays terminally ill cancer patient Vivian Bearing in the new movie, directed by Mike Nichols, and when she realized her co-star Jonathan Woodward felt awkward poking her on his first day of filming she set about helping him relax. Woodward makes his movie debut as Bearing's doctor in Wit. Nicholls recalls, "He was almost passing out, trying to fake putting his arm inside Emma. Suddenly she leaned forward, hiked up her gown, and said airily, `Feel free to rummage.'"

Sigourney Still In Her Prime

Sexy actress Sigourney Weaver feels that she is still sexy at 51. Sigourney admires her mother's looks and feels she is also still very beautiful. She says. "I look at my mother, who is 87, and I see a powerful woman. She was an actress who went out with Errol Flynn." Sigourney also says her age is more of a help than a hindrance. "Fifty didn't strike terror for me. I feel like 51 is nothing, " the actress says. "I'm actually getting more babelicious parts now. I feel in my prime."

Denis Leary Is The Butt Of A Bad Joke

Comedian Denis Leary was shocked by a naked dancer - who was boogieing to one of his own songs. Leary is the composer of a funny classic, The A**Hole Song - and at a recent club night out in America, the wacky track came back to haunt him when a naked girl told him she really likes to dance to it. He explains, "And minutes later she's up on stage dancing to it, and another naked girl comes up crying and says, 'I'm the original 'A**hole' dancer. She stole my routine!' So, the first girl finishes to a standing ovation, and then this original 'A**hole' dancer goes up, and she's terrible and she gets booed." He adds, "And by the way, who calls themselves the 'Original A**hole Dancer'? If that's what your job moniker is, you really need to get yourself a life."

Julia And Eric Roberts Prepare To Come Face To Face

Estranged brother and sister Julia and Eric Roberts will meet for the first time in 10 years - at the premiere of Johnny Depp's new movie Blow. The pair will be putting their differences aside to support Eric's daughter - Julia's niece - Emma Roberts, who makes her acting debut in the movie. Despite the fact Julia and Eric no longer talk, Eric's daughter Emma is very close to her Oscar-nominated Aunt, because she is close friends with Emma's mother Kelly Cunningham. But although Eric has vowed to be civil, he admits he's unlikely to exchange any words with his sister. He says, "I doubt we will talk. There's nothing to say. But I am enormously proud of my daughter. This is the first film she's done. She always reads her own scripts. I asked her why she chose this one, thinking she would tell me it was because she liked Johnny Depp. And she looked at me and said, 'Daddy, I get to say the 'f' word four times.' It was hysterical."

Russell's Priestly Past

Hundreds of Australians have become priests of a fringe religious group thanks to the advice of New Zealand hunk Russell Crowe. The Oscar-nominated actor stars in a video which helps encourage young people to become ministers in the Seventh Day Adventist Church. In the video, commissioned by the church, Crowe plays a farm worker who decides to devote his life to the Christian group. The film, which Crowe made when he was just 18 and a struggling actor in his homeland, is used to encourage youngsters to give up a normal life and devote themselves to the religious group. Crowe admits he made the movie to gain experience, "I didn't have anything official showing that I had studied this art form. I thought the only way to combat this is just to do as much as you can, you do work in as many mediums as you can, you do everything until you've learned from that. So I did what I could for it, whether it was a training film for the Seventh Day Adventist Church, a television commercial or just stuff to get in front of the camera." Church member Russell Gibbs worked as Director of Photography on the film which was called A Very Special Person. He says Crowe's involvement has been instrumental in encouraging people to join the church: "It was shown in colleges and high schools to encourage people to become priests. He actually spoke to real ministers in researching for the role and admitted he found the whole thing very interesting. Adds Gibbs, "He had to sleep on my couch. He didn't even have enough money to commute from Sydney every day for the shoot. So he stayed at my house."

Tommy Lee Jones Marries

Tommy Lee Jones has married his longtime girlfriend. Jones and Dawn Maria Laurel tied the knot in a private ceremony in San Antonio, Texas. The couple met in 1995 on the set of the film The Good Old Boys. Laurel, a photographer, is 18 years younger than her 54-year-old actor husband. American District Judge Fred Biery, who performed the service says, "It wasn't a big to-do." He declined to discuss details of the ceremony explaining, "These are very private people." A spokesman for the actor adds, "They enjoy so much of the same things. They're both interested in polo and Tommy, himself, is very interested in photography."

Rambo Set To Return To Cinemas

Fighting hero Rambo is set to return to the cinemas in 2003. Bob Weinstein, boss of film company Miramax, says a script for Rambo 4 is to be worked on over the summer. Sylvester Stallone, Jackie Chan, Richard Crenna and Brian Dennehy have all reportedly agreed to appear in the new film. According to the Stallone World website, the script involves Rambo tackling drug dealers in an American government building. Weinstein says on the site, "We'd love nothing more than for Stallone to be involved. We think it's a billion-dollar property."

Carla Gugino's Kisses With Banderas

Actress Carla Gugino had to deal with an array of action sequences in new movie Spy Kids, but one of her biggest challenges was kissing her co-star Antonio Banderas. Carla, who plays Antonio's wife in the flick, was forced to repeatedly kiss her screen husband in a manner that was deemed appropriate for the film's young target audience - a fact which didn't bother the actress in the slightest. She says, "We had to be careful because it's a family movie. We had a variety of kisses and we were eventually told to tone it down. We had a lot of takes in that scene."
