David Hasselhoff Unemployed
BAYWATCH hunk David Hasselhoff
's new television project has been axed - due to lack of international investment. Hasselhoff's show DOUBLECROSS - initially titled A.K.A. PICASSO - was due to go into production later this year in Montreal, Canada. But due to much of the international financing falling through, the show has been pulled, and will not go into production at all. This blow may have influenced Baywatch's decision not to kill off Hasselhoff's character MITCH BUCHANNON in the hit show. Earlier this week Hasselhoff admitted his writing out of Baywatch wouldn't be as final as at first reported, vowing "I'll be back."
John Travolta Defends Film From Scientology Critics
has hit out at claims his latest movie is no more than a big screen promotion for Scientology. The flick, futuristic sci-fi epic Battlefield Earth (2000)
, was written by L. RON HUBBARD, the philosopher and author whose works form the basis of Scientology. But Pulp Fiction (1994)
star Travolta, himself a Scientologist, dismisses the accusations, insisting, "It's about pop corn and entertainment." He adds, "I want people to be entertained and moved by the film but most of all I want them to be entertained... Hubbard is as famous for his work as a fiction writer as he is for his work as a philosopher and I hope people realize that. This film is not about scientology."
Snoopy Gets 50 Statue Memorial
Cartoon dog SNOOPY is being honoured in the late CHARLES M. SCHULZ's home town of St Paul - with a display of over 50 Snoopy statues. Schultz, the PEANUTS cartoonist who died in February, was born in Minneapolis and grew up in the Twin Cities area. The statues will be decorated by invited artists at the RIVER CENTER next month. After four months on display they will be auctioned with proceeds going towards a permanent downtown statue of a number of Peanuts characters. The artists chosen to decorate the statues will receive a $1000.
Hannah Slams Brit Film Industry
is thrilled he has bagged the role of MR BENN - but is furious the british film will be funded by a foreign company. Mummy, The (1999)
star will be taking the lead in the big screen version of the popular British cartoon. The tale is based on the adventures of a man who changed into fancy dress and becomes the person he is dressed as. But the Scottish actor cannot begin work on the movie until there is proper funding - something British companies are not keen to provide. He says, "It's a great script - really wonderful. But at the moment it looks like it will be financed out of Britain. Which is unfortunate, like Sliding Doors (1998)
, like Circus (2000)
, all British movies which have had to be funded from overseas. Anything British with any kind of originality it seems that the financiers get very nervous about... In this country there is no money for development which means that a lot of British movies get made that just aren't ready and don't have a good enough script. People are rushing and don't take enough care."
Matt Stone Disowns Colorado
SOUTH PARK creator Matt Stone
has disowned his home state of Colorado - and vows he'll never call it home again. A few weeks ago SIR Anthony Hopkins
was criticised by his home town of Port Talbot in Wales for abandoning his roots by accepting American citizenship. But Hopkins isn't the only celebrity to be disenchanted by the place he used to call home - Stone will never forgive Colorado for the lack of enthusiasm they've shown him. He says, "Colorado is so average. It's in the middle of the country, middle income, everyone's middle. It's so desperately average that it makes people go insane... The media there take every chance they can to rip us. I've sort of disowned Colorado. I won't go back. It's not my home anymore."

Jason Priestly Goes Back To 90210 For Finale
BEVERLY HILLS 90210 producer Aaron Spelling
sent his camera crews to London to get footage of JASON PRIESTLY for next month's swan-song episode. Priestly, who is currently on stage in London, complimented the teenage show, saying how much he'd loved being involved in the series at its beginning. When Priestly returns from London he has another, more unpleasant role ahead of him. The actor has to spend five days in jail as a result of the Driving Under the Influence charge stemming from his December car crash.
Charlie's Angels Troubles Not Lucy Liu's Fault
CHARLIE'S ANGELS producer Leonard Goldberg
insists problems on the set of the high profile movie are not Lucy Liu
's fault. Reports have been circulating Hollywood that the ALLY McBEAL stunner has been causing problems on the set of the movie, fighting with co- star Bill Murray
and being jealous over Cameron Diaz
and Drew Barrymore
's paychecks. But although Goldberg admits there have been ups and downs during filming, he refuses to blame Liu for them. He says, "It's untrue, and unnecessary. To cast Lucy as the villain in completely unfair. We're not going through any more than any high profile production. "I guess you'd have to say there have been the normal occurrences between people. But is Lucy causing the trouble? God no. No more than anyone else."

Brothers Charlie Sheen
and Emilio Estevez
have put an end to their dysfunctional relationship and become the best of pals after working together on new movie Rated X (2000)
. The brothers sons of Apocalypse Now (1979)
actor Martin Sheen
, would often go for up to seven months without talking and admitted they'd grown apart. But the sibling stars have become so close after working on the movie about two pornography-making brothers, they now call each other three or four times a day - despite hardly speaking for a decade. Sheen says, "We had come out of really not having a relationship for 10 years and then suddenly boom, you know, we had an opportunity to work together and now we are friends again... There were patches of time when we wouldn't speak for several months and now since doing the movie we speak every day, several times a day." And Estevez, who also directs the movie, jokes, "In fact, Charlie, if you would stop calling me, I would appreciate it. I have a life to lead."
