David Duchovny Wishes He Could Mate Like An Insect

Former "X-Files" star David Duchovny loves every part of fatherhood - except how long it takes for a baby to be made. The Hollywood actor and his actress wife TEA LEONI both admit bringing up their little girl is a "challenge" but one they're loving. And when it comes to the question of having more kids, Duchovny has one hesitation - waiting another nine months for Leoni to give birth. He says, "I guess we'd like more, but they take nine months to bake. I kind of wish we were more like insects. Do it in the evening, have the baby two days later. That would be great."

Renee Zellweger Played Hard To Get For Carrey

Hollywood actress RENEE ZELLWEGER kept funnyman Jim Carrey hanging on when it came to being his girlfriend - because she didn't know he fancied her. Zellweger and Carrey met on set of their new movie Me, Myself and Irene (2000) directed by the FARRELLY BROTHERS. But while word on the set was that Zellweger was cautious about engaging in a relationship with an obviously attracted Jim Carrey, the blonde actress insists it was nothing of the sort. In fact, she only kept him waiting because she had no idea he was in any way interested. She says, "It was obvious from the day we met that we were going to be great friends. We got on immediately. But I did hear that people thought I was playing hard to get. I'm always the last to realise if somebody likes me. I must just be such a geek."

Crude South Park Causes More Problems

SOUTH PARK is causing yet more controversy - this time the South Park website is set to be censored to prevent under-18s paying visits. Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are set to place the first of 39 animated shorts due out on Internet site Shockwave. com as part of a $2 million content deal being deemed even cruder than the TV show. But Shockwave. com execs are now debating whether to introduce a pay-per-view fee to keep those 18 or younger from viewing the short or edit it to make it more suitable for general viewing. However, there may be some problems for the Internet company - Parker and Stone retain all artistic control and ownership of the shorts, and Shockwave. com may have locked itself into a deal to air anything the pair create.

The Things They Say:

"They look completely real, don't they? I had to practise a whole new balance thing. It took a whole village of workers to create that cleavage. " Julia Roberts on the false boobs she wore for new film Erin Brockovich (2000).

Leonardo Backs Environmental Campaign

Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio is backing a campaign to abandon fossil fuels and encourage a switch to environmentally-friendly energy sources. The 25-year-old has thrown his weight behind an EARTHACTION initiative to lobby governments for cleaner fuels ahead of Earth Day on April 22nd. The heart-throb says, "The Earth is heating up and everyone's future is at risk. Please join us in sending a strong message to our governments that now is the time for action to prevent violent changes in our climate. " He adds, "I can't tell you how excited I am to host Earth Day 2000 on the Mall in Washington DC... together we're going to rock this country, and jump-start some important changes that will put us on the right path for the future. " But ironically DiCaprio has recently come under fire from ecological activists over alleged damage to a Thai island paradise during the filming of his latest movie, Beach, The (2000).

Hindus Upset With New Will Smith Movie

The Hindu community are "extremely concerned" about Will Smith and Matt Damon's new movie - because although it appears to be a movie about golf, it is actually based on their holy scriptures. Legend of Bagger Vance, The (2000) tells the tale of a war veteran (Damon) who is taught how to golf by a pro (Smith) and also learns the meaning of life. BIMILKRISHNA DAS, secretary for the NATIONAL COUNCIL OF HINDU TEMPLES says, "The name Bagger Vance is a distortion of the Hindu word for god - BHAGAVAD. ARJUNDA becomes Damon's character JUNNAH. So obviously it is already offensive to see Will Smith on the screen being called what is basically the word for God. "The original, the BHAGAVAD-GITA, is also not spoken - so to see it being played out on a golf-course is rather worrying. We are very cautious and concerned with the whole movie and will be watching carefully to see if the message is misinterpreted."

Bening's Last Minute Oscar Dress Choices

Heavily pregnant Hollywood star Annette Bening has to wait until Saturday before picking an Oscar gown - in case water retention makes her too big to fit in a dress. The American Beauty (1999) actress is determined not to miss the ceremony, where her husband Warren Beatty is being honoured with a special award. But the usual preparation time has gone out of the window for Bening, who's having to wait until the last minute to see exactly how big she's going to be on the night. A spokeswoman says, "It's 95 per cent certain it will be Armani. She has seen some designs she likes, and has been talking to him. "But she's also been talking to a friend who designs clothes, who's offered to make something last minute for Annette."

Rachel Griffiths Backs Australian Friend For Oscar

Australian actress RACHEL GRIFFITHS is backing fellow Australian Toni Collette to win an Oscar. Griffiths was nominated last year for her role in Hilary and Jackie (1998) and now thinks Collette should win for her performance in Sixth Sense, The (1999). The pair worked together in 1994 on Muriel's Wedding (1994). Griffiths says, "Toni is really the heart of that film. Ironically, I think amongst this year's contenders, it's the more mature performance. "It has extraordinary depth and subtlety and yet no fireworks. It's not like she's trying to do any big turn. She's just there and she just seems so real."

Martin Sheen Flunked College Exams To Become An Actor

Actor Martin Sheen was so keen to make it in Hollywood he flunked his University entrance exams so he wouldn't have to waste time studying. The Apocalypse Now (1979) star, who is one of ten children, says his dad was desperate for him to go to college, so he agreed to take the entrance exam. But he made sure there was no way he passed it. He says, "My dad wasn't thrilled about my being an actor. He wanted me to go to college and he even set some money aside for it. "I didn't want to do it because I felt it would be wasted on me, so, to please him, I took the entrance examination. But to please myself, I threw it. " And although his dad finally got the message, Sheen still managed to land his own personal achievement. He says, "To this day, I still hold a record for worst entry examination into the University of Dayton. Out of a possible 100, I scored three."
