Sandrine Holt Books Female Lead in ABC’s Drama Pilot ‘The Crossing’

17 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Sandrine Holt will co-star in ABC’s pilot “The Crossing,” Variety has learned.

The “House of Cards” alum has been cast as the female lead in the drama, which is nearing a deal with her male co-lead, sources say.

In “The Crossing,” refugees from a war-torn country start showing up to seek asylum in an American town. Only the country these people are from is America and the war they are fleeing is 250 years in the future. The local sheriff with a past, a federal agent, and a mother in search of her missing refugee daughter drive the conspiracy-centered story.

The pilot was written by Dan Dworkin and Jay Beattie, who will executive produce with Jason Reed. ABC Studios is producing the pilot.

Aside from “House of Cards,” Holt is known for AMC’s “Fear the Walking Dead,” Crackle’s “The Art of More,” USA’s “Mr. Robot” and the CBS reboot of “MacGyver.”

Warning: Huge Nashville Spoilers Ahoy!Well she had us fooled. Back in January, on her daytime talk show, Ellen DeGeneres asked Connie Britton about the rumors that she would only recur in the fifth season of the Nashville TV show, which was renewed by Cmt, after being unceremoniously cancelled by ABC.At the time, Britton replied, "“I’m in. I’m in for the duration.” It turns out that wasn't the duration of Nashville's Cmt run, or even the duration of season five. Now it's clear she meant another duration, entirely (revealed after the jump). Hayden Panettiere, Charles Esten, Clare Bowen, Jonathan Jackson, Sam Palladio, Chris Carmack, Lennon Stella and Maisy Stella also star.Read More… »

TV Ratings: ‘Blacklist: Redemption’ Off to Sluggish Start, ‘Htgawm’ Up in Finale

20 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

As much as broadcast networks say that Nielsen’s Live+Same Day ratings are no longer of any real concern to them, there’s no denying that most midseason dramas have gotten off to a rocky start by that metric. “The Blacklist: Redemption,” the spinoff of James Spader-led “The Blacklist,” became the latest data point in that trend Thursday night. Coming out of its progenitor, “Redemption” notched a 0.8 in the 18-49 demographic and drew an average audience of 4.2 million viewers.

On the plus side for NBC, that was just one-tenth off in the demo from “The Blacklist,” which brought in a 0.9 and an audience of 4.92 million. Thursday comedies “Superstore” and “Powerless” inched down slightly from last week. “Superstore” notched a 1.1 and 3.54 million viewers, while “Powerless” drew a 0.7 and 2.3 million.

ABC cruised to its customary Shonda Rhimes-fueled victory. “Grey’s Anatomy” delivered a 2.0 in the demo and 7.61 million viewers, while »

Mama June’s Revenge Weight Loss: This is the World We Live In?

9 minutes ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

For the record I did not watch the show Mama June: From Hot to Not last night.  I was too busy not watching shows like this.  However, I never thought I’d say that there’s a startling similarity between this show and The Curse of Oak Island.  Like The Curse of Oak Island, Mama’s June’s show was a giant tease with no “big reveal” at the end.  Fans were shocked and angry that they never actually got to see this tiny, thin Mama June we were expecting from all the promos.  Instead fans claimed that she was wearing a fat suit.

Rick Derringer Singing “Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo” to Start the Weekend

Rick Derringer’s been in the news for the last 24 hours because he brought a loaded gun on an airplane.  The classic rock singer and guitarist has pleaded guilty and agreed to pay a $1,000 fine after stepping off a Delta Air Lines flight from Mexico with a loaded handgun in Atlanta’s airport. Derringer told a federal air marshal he kept his gun with him on commercial airline flights 30 to 50 times a year, and never before had a problem carrying it through airport checkpoints, prosecutors said. Tsa spokesman Mark Howell said earlier that the agency investigates such statements

Stephen Colbert Compares Trump’s Nuclear Plan to the Cold War

1 hour ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Our last President won the Nobel Prize for carefully decommissioning our nukes, while our new President wants ‘everybody-nobody’ to have them.  That’s essentially the main subject of Stephen Colbert’s monologue last night on The Late Show.   Colbert begins by joking about the 35th day that Trump has been in office, but really calling it the 35th year because that’s essentially what it’s felt like for many of us. But the main topic was Trump’s desire to expand the United States nuclear arsenal.  Trump was quoted as saying he wants to make it “top of the pack.”   Exactly what Trump meant

Sleepy Hollow: Team Witness Battles Fire Genie. Molly Sees Older Ichabod.

“There is more to life than amassing followers.”. This quote from Ichabod couldn’t be more ironic. On tonight’s episode of Sleepy Hollow, Team Witness fight against a Fire Djinn. Yes, you heard right, a djinn that consumes people’s lifeforce through its flames. The hour began with Malcolm sitting in a chair on the White House lawn. A choir stands before him singing what I deduce as “American the Beautiful.” I could be wrong so feel free to correct me. Then two men brought him a man in chains. The man in question turns out to be none other than Ichabod

Keeping up with the Kattarshians is a Real Show

When it comes to cats, don’t ever count out any idea, ever.   But I’m pretty sure that neither I or many of you could have predicted that a show starring cats based on Keeping up with the Kardashians would ever exist.  But it does.  Oh boy.  It does.  Four kittens live in a house together. It’s scaled to be just their size. Three live webcams (and a night vision camera) follow their antics as they learn to get along with each other -or not.  This is Keeping up with the Kattarshians, an Icelandic production starring a litter of kittens who

Dear Joseph Gordon-Levitt: Don’t Play Nightwing

Of all the actors out there, one guy who I respect more than most is Joseph Gordon-Levitt.  Not only do I think he’s an incredible talent but I feel like he’s made the right role decisions in his career.  I mean we’re talking way back to when he was in A River Runs Through It as a kid.  Then his role on 30 Rock from the Sun which seems like an eternity ago.  He earned his wings on teeny bopper flicks like 10 Things I Hate about You but once we all saw him in 500 Days of Summer he

Emerald City Season 1 Episode 9 Review: “The Villain That’s Become”

9 hours ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

It can be hard for women on television, and as a woman who enjoys TV a lot, seeing the abuse of women in fictional worlds is hard to grapple with. Tonight, on Emerald City, the writers put nearly every female character through a world of pain. First, Lucas sets out to kill Dorothy under the instruction of Glinda. It’s brutal, and upsetting to watch, especially after they were lovers. I did like that Toto attacked him, that dog doesn’t get enough screen time. Later, a determined Dorothy goes to the Prison of the Abject to release the imprisoned witches. West
