An Edward Snowden movie already? Sort of! -- Video
18 hours ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »
We all knew an Edward Snowden movie was coming; we just didn’t know it would be this soon. Four Hong Kong filmmakers posted a five-minute film about Snowden’s mission to expose the U.S. government’s mass surveillance program — clearly they didn’t waste any time (is this story even close to being over yet?).
While Snowden’s saga is still in progress, the amateur filmmakers wanted to strike while the iron was hot. “To be the first one to really do anything about it … it was quite invigorating,” cinematographer and editor Edwin Lee told Afp.

Under the Dome's Britt Robertson: Will Angie Survive?
18 hours ago | TVGuide - Breaking News | See recent TVGuide - Breaking News news »
Surprisingly, it's not a bad thing that Angie McAlister is locked up in a fallout shelter by crazed ex-fling Junior Rennie on Under the Dome — because at least it means she's alive.
In the Stephen King book, on which the CBS series is based, Angie actually died before the dome descended upon Chester's Mill, meaning Britt Robertson has already long outlived her novel counterpart. But the question remains how long she'll actually live since the deranged Junior (Alexander Koch) locked her up in his father's (Dean Norris) fallout shelter. To get the scoop on what's in store for those crazy love birds (sarcasm!), TVGuide.com turned to Robertson:

'Ray Donovan': Liev Schreiber and Jon Voight explore fathers, sons and fame
19 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »
Is the best writer to explore male issues a woman? If she's Ann Biderman, maybe so.
An Emmy Award winner for her work on the hard-hitting "NYPD Blue," Biderman went on to create the critically acclaimed -- and equally tough-minded -- Lapd drama "Southland."
On Sunday, June 30, Biderman returns to television with the premiere of Showtime's "Ray Donovan," starring Liev Schreiber as a two-fisted "fixer" in Los Angeles cleaning up the messes of out-of-control celebrities, superstar athletes and business executives.
At the same time, Donovan is also trying to protect his wife (Paula Malcolmson) and children (Devon Bagby, Kerris Dorsey) from his father, Mickey (Jon Voight), who unexpectedly gets out of prison in Boston and lands on his son's doorstep.
The hard-living Mickey also drops like a bomb into the lives of his other two sons: troubled addict Bunchy (Dash Mihok) and Terry (Eddie Marsan), a former boxer coping with »

Showbiz In France: Sex, Violence, Drugs & Ratings; No Oscar For ‘Blue’; TV Film Ads?
19 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »
This is the first in a planned series of reports on the people, projects and polemics that have folks buzzing in various overseas territories. Each year following the Cannes Film Festival the French film industry falls into semi-hibernation as execs recover from months of build-up, the box office gives way to Hollywood tentpoles and attention turns to tennis and weeks-long vacations. Some years, it seems like the industry doesn’t even really wake up again until the fall festivals hit. But in this past month since Cannes ended, there’s been quite a bit keeping the industry buzzing. Among the issues are what France’s Oscar entry will be, vagaries at the local ratings board, a renewed push to allow film advertising on television and the fight to preserve the Cultural Exception. France led the charge on the latter, winning in its bid on June 14 to keep the audiovisual business »

'Clear History' trailer: Larry David wigs out -- Video

Clear History should really consider the parenthetical title The HBO Movie With Larry David in an Insane Wig. That’s been the film’s main talking point — but a new minute-and-a-half trailer changes that, revealing more of the story line, a slew of famous faces and even a hairpiece-free David.
In the TV movie, the Curb Your Enthusiasm mastermind plays a marketing exec for a carmaker, and he’s not too impressed with his employer’s latest vehicle, the Howard electric car. He pulls a Jerry Maguire, telling off his boss (Jon Hamm) and selling his share in the company »

'Dexter' Season 8 premiere: Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter on the beginning of the end

The question isn't when "Dexter" will end. The question is how.
The series that has made a hero of a serial killer of criminals begins its eighth and final season Sunday, June 30, on Showtime ... and it has changed its game so many times during its run, it's anyone's guess as to the ultimate fate of forensics expert Dexter Morgan (played by Michael C. Hall). And, for that matter, of his protective-to-a-fault half sister Debra (Jennifer Carpenter).
Her discovery of his secret, lethal life at the end of Season 6 made Season 7 a wild ride, as she struggled to do her job as detective and spokeswoman for the Miami Police Department while not exposing his crimes. She ultimately had to make a phenomenally tough choice: Give him up or kill their boss, who finally had figured out the truth about Dexter. And as she typically has, Debra stayed on Dexter's side. »

Nearly 17 Million Watched First Episode of CBS’ ‘Under the Dome’
21 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »
The already-strong premiere numbers for CBS drama “Under the Dome” looked even more impressive when DVR playback data came in this weekend.
Last Monday’s premiere, which averaged a 3.3 rating among adults 18-49, now stands at a 4.3 thanks to DVR playback within the first three days of its initial telecast, according to Nielsen. It also swelled in adults 25-54 from a 4.5 rating to a 5.7, and its average overall audience now stands at 16.7 million (up from the 13.5 million who watched on Monday night).
The premiere episode of “Dome” last Monday faced competition in much of the country from hockey’s Stanley Cup Finals, which saw the Chicago Blackhawks clinch the title over the Boston Bruins in the 10 o’clock Et hour.
Among all dramas to premiere on television over the past year, the 4.3 in 18-49 for “Under the Dome” is tied with Fox’s “The Following” for the highest rating in Nielsen’s Live+3 rating, »

'Devious Maids': Being sexy and well-dressed comes with the territory
21 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »
Beverly Hills maids, as would be expected, are more fashionable than housekeepers elsewhere.
The help and their employers in Lifetime's fun prime-time soap "Devious Maids," are, for the most part, well dressed and sexy.
"They are the best-dressed maids," costume designer Roemehl Hawkins tells Zap2it. "It is crazy. But it is fun because it is Beverly Hills, and it is a heightened reality. I have done some styling and have showed up at actresses' houses, and a lot of times the actresses will give them some of their swag, and maids are rocking the designer jeans, and they are better dressed than I am. I am sure it is a little different in other cities."
The only questionable choices in the first couple of episodes are seriously impractical shoes. In one scene, Marisol (Ana Ortiz) scrubs a blood-splattered room wearing red high-heeled wedges.

'Copper's' Ato Essandoh: 'I look at Doctor Who'
22 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »
Zap2it: Is your "Copper" character, Dr. Freeman, the smartest physician on TV?
Ato Essandoh: I look at Doctor Who; you know, he time travels, and I don't even have gauze. It's all deductive reasoning.
Zap2it: What's his back story?
Ato Essandoh: We are still working it out. He is an ex-slave whose owner happened to be a slave and let Freeman accompany him. In many ways, he is self-taught. I looked it up when I got the role. I thought there were no black doctors in 1864. There were six or seven.
Zap2it: What did you study at college?
Ato Essandoh: I was in chemical engineering at Cornell University. My girlfriend at the time dared me to do a play. I knew there was something I wanted, not necessarily engineering. What's nice about having an engineering degree is everybody thinks you are smart.

'Dexter' Premiere Recap: Surprising New Threats Emerge

Dexter always comes close to showing real, genuine happiness when all of his problems no longer exist. At the beginning of season 8, Laguerta is dead -- and not even at his own hands.
That means he has no one looking at him as a "psychopath" anymore (words used in his direction in the episode), not even Batista, who quickly dismisses warrants and trace requests for Dexter and Deb found in Laguerta's personal items as just Maria's way of refusing to let go.

'Dexter': The secret to Jennifer Carpenter's intense performance

“I hate this!” howls Jennifer Carpenter as she gets hosed down. “It’s so cold!”
The actress is standing beside a Southern California lake as Dexter assistants gently soak her. She’s preparing for a scene where she has to drag a body out of a water. Though it’s nearly 70 degrees and sunny, you get the impression she’s being stung by every drop.
Several watery minutes later, Carpenter exits the water. “I need a belt!” she says as her pants slip down her narrow hips. Then she touches her forehead, where the makeup team applied red goop to simulate a head wound. »

Hot TV Trailer: ‘Clear History’

Curb Your Enthusiasm fans know how Larry David pines for a serious head of hair. He gets his wish — for a while, at least — in his HBO Films comedy Clear History. Looking a little like Jeff Bridges in The Big Lebowski, David is a marketing exec at car maker. But an argument with his boss leaves him jobless, and he sells his 10% of the company, just before its worth soars into the billions. A decade later, with a new identity and minus numerous hair follicles, he lands a chance to get even. David co-wrote the telepic, which also stars Bill Hader, Curb and Seinfeld veteran Philip Baker Hall, Jon Hamm, Kate Hudson, Michael Keaton, Danny McBride, Eva Mendes, Amy Ryan and David’s Curb foil J.B. Smoove. It premieres August 10 on HBO. Here’s the trailer: »

Would Time Warner Cable Rather Buy Systems Than Sell Itself To John Malone?
30 June 2013 10:27 AM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »
Apparently so, according to a Reuters report. The No. 2 cable operator has spoken to Cox and Cablevision about possible deals “in recent months” and continues to be interested in them, the news wire says. Execs recognize that the cable industry is mature and poised for consolidation. But they’re also cool to the idea of combining with Charter, a much smaller company that’s seen as a stalking horse for John Malone after his Liberty Media paid $2.6B for a 27.3% stake. The problem: Charter, which has a market value of $12.5B, likely would have to take on a lot of debt in order to buy Time Warner Cable, valued as $32.7B. And Evercore Partners’ Bryan Kraft notes that TWC’s board might “see selling now as premature if it believes management is righting the ship.” TWC already has rejected Malone’s overtures, leading him to take his case directly to its investors, »
