‘The Strain’ Drama From Guillermo Del Toro And Carlton Cuse Gets Pilot Order At FX
Guillermo del Toro is bringing his vampire novel trilogy The Strain to television as a drama series, which will be run by former Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse. In a very competitive situation with multiple cable networks offering major commitments, FX has landed the project, ordering a pilot that will be co-written, directed and executive produced by del Toro. Co-writing the pilot script is Chuck Hogan (Prince Of Thieves), who also co-authored the books with del Toro. Lost alum Cuse will help develop the series and serve as executive producer/showrunner. Like Lost, The Strain is envisioned as having a limited run. Del Toro tells Deadline he believes the books have enough juice to fill three to five seasons of series, and that he would like to helm as many episodes as his feature schedule allows. Del Toro, Cuse and Hogan exec produce with del Toro’s long-time manager/producing partner Gary Ungar. »

Diane Kruger To Star In FX pilot 'The Bridge,' 'Miss Bala' Helmer Gerardo Naranjo To Direct; Plus Trailer For 'Special Forces'
Certainly, Hollywood sat up and took notice of Gerardo Naranjo when he dropped into Cannes in 2011 with the gritty thriller "Miss Bala," and promptly blew some minds. Since then, he's lined up a number of projects, including the romantic drama "The Mountain Between Us" with Michael Fassbender and the political thriller "A Man Must Die." But it looks like before he gets to either of those, he's going to take a quick detour into TV first, and work with another international star in the process. Diane Kruger has taken the lead role in the FX series "The Bridge," which has none other than Naranjo directing the pilot. A remake of the Scandinavian series "Bron/Broen," the story will focus on El Paso Police Homicide Detective Sonya North (Kruger) and Marco Ruiz, from Mexico, who break down the border to catch a serial killer that's on the loose. Tom Colicchio spoils 'Top Chef Masters' on Twitter
Maybe Twitter should add a spoiler alert to Tom Colicchio's account. The "Top Chef" judge tweeted the results of last night's penultimate episode of "Top Chef Masters" immediately as the episode ended on the East Coast.
If you're planning to catch up on "Top Chef Masters" later, you'll probably want to stop reading now.
Colicchio tweeted "Congratulations to my friends Kerry Heffernan and Chris Cosentino for making it to the finale of Top Chef Masters" at 10:59 p.m. Et.
To which Bravo executive and "Watch What Happens" host Andy Cohen immediately replied: "Pst brother!"
Most entertainment sites, including Zap2it, try to be sensitive about spoiling reality show results on social media. In the age of timeshifting and DVRs, not everyone watches live. But Colicchio clearly was excited about the outcome. "Top Chef Masters" viewers know from an episode that aired earlier this season that Colicchio and Heffernan »

Kelley and CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta, on whose book the project is based. Ving Rhames stars in the drama, along with Alfred Molina, in a series which is set in a fictional Portland, Or hospital called Chelsea General, and follows the lives of doctors as they "push the limits of their abilities and confront their personal and professional failings." Ft: James Murdoch To Take Over News Corp’s TV Business
Although widely criticized for his role in the UK hacking scandal, the company is preparing to give Deputy COO James Murdoch “direct responsibility for News Corp’s U.S. television businesses,” the Financial Times reports. His mandate would include the Fox Networks Group, which includes Fox Broadcasting and cable networks FX, National Geographic, and Speed — but not Fox News. The paper says that the head of Fox Networks Group, Peter Rice, would report to James. Rupert Murdoch‘s son lobbied for this in July when Rice landed the job, but the CEO and COO Chase Carey “resisted.” The story says its undisclosed sources have different thoughts about when the new arrangement might be announced. At least one person “close to the company” says that some execs want to wait until they know more about Scotland Yard’s investigations into phone and computer hacking, and bribery, at the company’s UK »

Sons of Anarchy Promo Pics for 5.03 - "Laying Pipe"
You know that Jax, Tig, Chibs, and Opie are heading into County where Damien Pope has men waiting take the reaper down, but there are some other significant things going on in Sons of Anarchy "Laying Pipe", airing next Tuesday at 10pm on FX, that this promo pics reveal. What could be going on? Stop reading if you don't want some subtle spoilers. (More like teases, don't worry)
Of most interest to me is the return of Wendy (Drea de Matteo), and the circumstances she seems to be returning under. We see several shots of Tara and Gemma in what appears to be a hospital waiting room, and one picture of Tara apparently confronting Wendy. This seems to suggest that something might have happened to Abel, or perhaps even both of the children.
One thing Sons of Anarchy does very well is keep the heat up on these familial conflicts. »

Missing Fox Executive To Be Featured On ‘America’s Most Wanted’
America’s Most Wanted is planning to air a segment on Gavin Smith around the middle of October. A source close to the Lifetime show says the long-running series is “talking directly with the investigators from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office who haven’t spoken in detail, publicly about the case before.” Smith has not been seen since the night of May 1, when he was leaving the Oak Park, CA home of a friend in his black Mercedes. On May 9, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department changed the status of the case from a missing person’s probe to a criminal homicide investigation. The family of the 57-year old veteran distribution exec and former UCLA basketball player has offered a $20,000 reward for information about Smith’s whereabouts. After 23 seasons on Fox, America’s Most Wanted began airing on Lifetime in September 2011. Related: Missing Fox Movie Executive: Homicide Detectives »

Supernatural Season 8 Sneak Peek: Sam and Dean Reunite! But Where's Castiel?
Following the new Supernatural preview that was released recently, we now have our first sneak peek from the season premiere! And it's one of the best scenes there is: the Winchester reunion after months (or, in this case, a year) apart!
Sam, who managed to save the Impala after Meg smashed it into a Sucrocorp sign in the season 7 finale, heads up to Rufus' cabin, where he's immediately attacked by none other than his missing brother. Naturally, there's the ceremonial demon/leviathan/shifter test to determine whether the brothers are not who they appear. Once that's over and done with it's time for the ceremonial hug. Sam is thrilled to see Dean alive after having been missing - and presumed dead- for a year. Dean is quick to explain that he's been in Purgatory all this time, but he's very shifty about how he got out.
But where's Castiel? According to Dean, »

Watch: The Cast of 'The West Wing' Reunites to Teach People About Voting in Non-Partisan Races
If all it takes is a cause to get the cast of "The West Wing" back together and in character, let's think of a new one each week and just say the show's back on air. Martin Sheen, Allison Janney, Dulé Hill and Joshua Malina were back on screen in May to promote a fitness initiative for Funny or Die, and now even more of the cast of Aaron Sorkin's presidential series has come together for the video below, informing people to vote in non-partisan races instead of accidentally overlooking them after voting in the partisan ones, and touting the excellence of Michigan Supreme Court candidate Bridget Mary McCormack. Read More: Watch: 'West Wing' Cast Reunites to Spoof the Walk and Talk on Funny or Die Who? non-Michigan residents may ask. Sons of Anarchy Mega Spoiler for 5.03 "Laying Pipe"
Danger is in the air everywhere you turn on Sons of Anarchy, from Charming to County, where Tig, Chibs, Jax, and Opie are heading straight into a murderous Damien Pope's trap. With all of that danger, it wouldn't be surprising to hear that someone is going to die soon—but it might surprise you to know that someone is going to die next Tuesday, and that we now know who the potential deceased will be. EW's Lynette Rice broke the spoiler and the list of potential candidates, but we have our own opinion on who might be meeting the reaper. By the time Sons of Anarchy 5.04 "Stolen Huffy" airs on October 2nd, one of these six will be dead:

Disney CFO Says Ads Are Coming To Espn Streams To Apple Devices
Video programmers have been eagerly waiting for technicians to figure out how to present their ads to millions of iPad and iPhone users. And they’ve finally done it. “In the near future, by the end of this month, you will see advertising even on the iOS platform,” Disney CFO Jay Rasulo said today at the Goldman Sachs Annual Communicopia Conference. Indeed, ads are already up on streams of Espnu. That will be followed by Espn, ESPN2 and ESPN3. “We have already had advertising in the desktop and PC (and) on the Android phones,” Rasulo says. “Now we will have it on the iOS platform as well.” That will result in “the monetization that we always envisioned.” There’s still an open question about when Nielsen will be able to count mobile viewers, a key to determining how much advertisers should pay. Rasulo says he expects that to be resolved “in the near future. »

To help Simpsons fans get geared up for the upcoming 2012 presidential election, Fox has put together a video featuring Homer Simpson in the voting booth on election day. Who will he pick: Barack Obama or Mitt Romney? I'll just hint that Romney's elusive tax records are involved.
Don't miss The Simpsons season premiere on Sunday, September 30 at 8:00 p.m. Et/Pt and the Halloween Special ("Treehouse of Horror") on Sunday, October 7 at 8:00 p.m. Et/Pt on Fox.
The One Gif That Should Pump you Up for Modern Family
Everyone in their right minds is excited for the season premiere of Modern Family. And why not? They should be. I mean even today we posted a great video of Julie Bowen impersonating Sofia Vergara. And yesterday we discovered that Ed O'Neill really likes to read the same newspaper on every show he's been on since the 80s.
We don't know what to expect this season as typically shows that run for more than 5 years seem to kind of "taper off" when it comes to humor. (See The Office) However, Modern Family is definitely still going strong and we're expecting some great things out of the show this season.
About the only thing that has bothered me on the show is Manny's progression to adulthood and the substitution the show made for Lilly (she's not cute anymore!). Other than that we've got Haley and Alex both turning into beautiful women before our eyes. »
