Starr will play Homelander, the leader of the show’s primary superhero collective known as The Seven. ‘Fire and Fury’ to Be Adapted Into TV Series

‘Fire and Fury’ to Be Adapted Into TV Series
Michael Wolff’s “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” is being eyed for an adaptation into a television series, Variety has confirmed.

Endeavor Content has purchased the film and television rights to the book, which goes inside the first year of Donald Trump’s presidency. It largely portrays Trump as unprepared for the enormity of his office, and that he is unable to focus his attention on policy details. The book also includes quotes from former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, who referred to the 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer as “treasonous.” Bannon eventually resigned his position at Breitbart News over the furor caused by his statements.

The book proved to be an immediate best-seller and was sold out at bookstores in several major cities the day it was released.

No studio is currently attached to the project. Wolff will serve as an executive producer on the project with former

TV Ratings: 'Black Lightning' Gets a Promising Premiere on CW

TV Ratings: 'Black Lightning' Gets a Promising Premiere on CW
Good news for the CW. It seems the network still hasn't exhausted its viewers' appetite for superhero shows.

Black Lightning joined the lineup on Tuesday night, making it the fifth comic book series on the network — seventh, if you're counting genre-divergent entries iZombie and Riverdale. The first hour pulled a strong 0.8 rating among adults 18-49 and 2.3 million viewers. Those numbers are quite sound by CW standards, especially when you consider the fact that lead-in The Flash, the CW's No. 1 series, only performed incrementally better. Black Lightning shared The Flash's score in the key demo and lost fewer...

Peak TV Brings New Models, Windows, Problems and Opportunities for TV’s Busiest Producers

Miami — In this Peak TV moment, the dearth of new first-run product for sale at Natpe speaks volumes about the fragmented state of the content marketplace.

Yes, it’s the best of times for producers who have no shortage of outlets hunting for distinctive original content. But it’s not the best of times for finding a way to make real money from new shows at a time when the cost of every aspect of production is soaring simply because there are so many players chasing talent and deals.

The first-run syndication business that was the traditional underpinning of the annual National Association of Television Program Executives conference has been in a long slump, beset by declining ratings and softness in local advertising. The two new strips that did hit the market reflected the needs of stations for plug-and-play shows that are highly cost efficient (read: no big license fees) and don’t need a lot of

TV Entrepreneurs Still Roam the Halls at Natpe

Miami — Dave Mech of Springfield, Mass., donned his “Potsquatch” suit and headed for Miami this week.

Mech has an idea for an unscripted TV show set in the booming cannabis business. It’s a branding initiative for the recreational marijuana dispensary he hopes to open in Springfield later this year. He figured he’d try his luck cold-pitching producers at the Natpe conference because he didn’t have much to lose. He’s already got the show’s title picked out.

” ‘Potstars,’ like ‘Pawn Stars,’ ” Mech explained. “Because we used to be a pawn shop … but now we’re a pot shop.’ ”

Mech grabbed attention at the show by walking around in a giant furry green costume bedecked with big plastic marijuana leaves. He had a lot of conversations about the show just from people who inquired about the costume, which was crafted by an artist friend.

The spirit of salesmanship that drove Mech to Miami is still

Hulu and Amazon’s TV adaptation of the non-fiction bestseller “The Looming Tower,” and Danish series “Liberty,” complete the 2018 lineup.

Although hailing from different parts of the world, the organizers said all of the projects selected deal, in one form or another, with power structures and resistance to them.

Telefonica’s Movistar + New Head Sergio Oslé on First Series Results, Cinema, Engaging Audiences (Exclusive)

Madrid — The office of Sergio Oslé, the new head of film and TV at Spain’s Telefonica, one of Europe’s biggest telecoms, sports a dazzling red-toned painting of a bowl of fruit. Otherwise the walls are bare.

“I must put something of my own up on the walls,” Oslé jokes. He might not have the time. A Stanford U alum and longtime McKinsey director, Oslé joined Telefonica on Nov. 1 as head of audiovisual and video Spain, just as Telefonica’s pay TV unit Movistar + , which he oversees, was seeing the first results from its first three original series, which mark the biggest bet on scripted content of any telco in Europe.

More than 80% of the series’ consumption is on-demand, Oslé said. So final numbers still have to come in. Results to date are on track, however, to place the trio in the top five of most-watched series ever on Movistar +, Spain’s by-far biggest pay TV
