Oscars: 'Wonder Woman,' James Franco, Steven Spielberg Among Noteworthy Snubs
While a number of Oscar hopefuls are cheering after their names were read during Tuesday morning's nominations announcement, other individuals and films considered to be contenders found themselves out in the cold.

Wonder Woman was completely shut out by the Academy, even in the technical categories, despite being one of the highest-grossing films of the year and receiving acclaim from a number of critics groups and awards organizations. Also shut out despite receiving early-season awards attention and Golden Globe, SAG Awards and Critics' Choice nominations was Battle of the Sexes, about the historic tennis match between Billie Jean King and...

Oscars: ‘Mudbound’s’ Rachel Morrison Makes History as First Female Cinematographer Nominee

Oscars: ‘Mudbound’s’ Rachel Morrison Makes History as First Female Cinematographer Nominee
After 90 long years, another glass ceiling has finally been broken at the Motion Picture Academy.

“Mudbound” cinematographer Rachel Morrison made history Tuesday by becoming the first female director of photography to receive an Oscar nomination. The recognition comes on the heels of a similar milestone with the American Society of Cinematographers, which nominated Morrison’s “Mudbound” work earlier this month.

“I’m glad that people are recognizing the craft of it and not making decisions based on tokenism; Rachel’s work is on the screen,” “Mudbound” director Dee Rees said on a recent episode of Variety‘s “Playback” podcast. “Go to Sandi Sissel, go to Ellen Kuras, go to Rachel Morrison — women have been making interesting images for a long time.”

Morrison won the New York Film Critics Circle’s cinematography prize in December. She was also nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award along with recognition from the Chicago and North Carolina film critics organizations.

“Mudbound” was also

Will Ewoks Return in the Han Solo Movie?

Will Ewoks Return in the Han Solo Movie?
Rumors abound that the first Solo trailer is dropping this week. There has been much fanfare over the second Star Wars Story, most of it not good. And there have been a lot of behind-the-scenes images, mostly shared by director Ron Howard. One leaked image clearly shows a taxidermied Ewok behind a glass case. Though it's highly suspect whether or not the Ewok, or others like it will show up in the movie. It's definitely there on set. But we might be looking at one of the many deleted scenes that will forever go unwatched in the Lucasfilm vault.

The image in question was leaked from the set before Ron Howard came in and took over for Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who were fired. Images from this scene were some of the first to come online, giving fans a first look at the movie. And it clearly looks like

SAG Awards: Biggest Snubs and Surprises

SAG Awards: Biggest Snubs and Surprises
The Screen Actors Guild usually proves themselves to be creatures of habit: They reward the same stars, year in and year out — following their own patterns rather than setting any new trends.

But the night wasn’t completely by the books. Here’s a look at some of the award show’s biggest curveballs:

Surprise: “This Is Us” (NBC)

Admittedly, this race was a tough one to call: Good arguments could have been made for any of the nominees. But “Stranger Things” was a surprise win last year, and the SAG did it again, crowning the NBC tearjerker. The last time a broadcast series took home the trophy was in 2006 for ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Snub: “Stranger Things” (Netflix)

Speaking of “Stranger Things,” the Netflix series went 0-for-4 tonight. Nothing for David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, the stunt team, or the cast — depriving viewers of yet another rousing speech from Harbour and Winona Ryder’s facial
