Film Review: ‘The Third Murder’

Film Review: ‘The Third Murder’
It was probably time for Hirokazu Kore-eda to take a break from the tender seriocomedies about parents and children that have occupied his last decade, given that 2016’s “After the Storm” was a good film — yet also the least of his efforts in that terrain. Still, even those who pine for the chillier tenor and themes of earlier features (like “Nobody Knows,” “Distance” and “After Life”) are likely to greet “The Third Murder” with mixed emotions. This entirely dialogue-driven drama focuses on a mid-career lawyer whose jaded professionalism is shaken when he takes on a client charged with homicide but whose story seems to change with every telling.

Trouble is, that confessional “truth” changes so many times we cease to care what it might turn out to be — and in any case, Kore-eda leaves “whodunit” (let alone why) unanswered here. Ambiguity can be powerful in a mystery, yet “Murder’s” somewhat ponderously literal-minded attention to legal procedure

Ann Curry on Leaving NBC’s ‘Today’: ‘It Hurt Like Hell’

Ann Curry says she survived after being ousted from NBC’s “Today” by staying humble and true to herself.

“It hurt like hell,” the 61-year-old former “Today” co-anchor and NBC News veteran told People in an interview. “It hurt so much, but I learned a lot about myself. I can say I’ve done nothing wrong. I’ve been honest and true. I’ve tried to stay pure. I’ve tried to not respond in a knee-jerk manner, and I’ve stayed very close to who I am. So it hurt, but I’m also proud of myself.”

Curry left NBC three years after being pushed from NBC’s “Today” morning franchise after a year as co-anchor. Her awkward on-air departure from the program – NBC executives believed she and Lauer lacked on-screen chemistry – is believed to have been in a factor in the rise of ABC’s “Good Morning America,” which eventually

Now Butters and Fazekas are staging an “Agent Carter” reunion on their new ABC show, “Kevin Probably Saves The World.”
