Channing Tatum to Save White House

14 May 2012 4:30 PM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Deadline reports that omnipresent hunk-of-all-trades Channing Tatum is in talks to star in White House Down, from disaster movie auteur Roland Emmerich. The film is about attempts to foil a terrorist takeover of the White House ... and frankly, Tatum and Emmerich haven't done such a good job defending the place, according to our cinematic memory. Will this film also end with the White House blown to smithereens or covered in tacky Cobra banners? »

'Glee' CD Review: Po(m)p and Circumstance-Themed 'Graduation'

14 May 2012 4:29 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Lest they take over Dick Clark’s old title as the “world’s oldest teenagers,” some of the “Glee” kids are finally graduating (from high school, if not the series). Lea Michele and cohorts will exit William McKinley High in May 22’s tassel-tossing season finale, but first comes this week’s release of “Glee: The Graduation Album,” a complete set of celebratory and/or valedictory songs. Well, nearly complete. Unfortunately, these aging young ‘uns never get around to “My Way.” But the grads do cover sentimental life-lesson anthems ranging from Jason Mraz’s “I Won’t Give »

Are Britney Spears and Demi Lovato the right choices for 'X Factor'?

14 May 2012 4:21 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Simon Cowell would like to make one thing perfectly clear: if you are a straight white male over the age of 15, he really doesn’t have much need for you. The confirmation of Britney Spears as a new judge on “X Factor,” as well as the relatively surprising announcement that she and returning judge L.A. Reid will be joined by Demi Lovato shows very clearly that Cowell is serious about snaring the 12-34 female demo and not much else. Of course, all of these talent shows are geared toward females anyway, so Cowell is not even pretending that he means otherwise »

Channing Tatum is in talks to star in Roland Emmerich’s latest action flick, “White House Down,” an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap. Sony acquired James Vanderbilt’s spec script earlier this year for $3 million and then signed up director Emmerich, known for disaster films like “Independence Day” and "2012." This film is advertised as “Die Hard” in the White House, so explosive catastrophe can’t be too far away. A Sony spokesman declined to comment on the casting. Tatum has been mixing up genres of late, starring in the Sony comedy “21 »

The Eight Things We Learned at the Fox Upfronts

14 May 2012 3:45 PM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Fox's Upfront this afternoon had way more star power than NBC's morning presentation, and that seemed like a running theme: Fox honcho Kevin Reilly dinged The Voice multiple times, and Simon Cowell got in a few digs, too. However one feels about NBC's singing series, though, Reilly's suggestion that The X Factor is "the original" seems off, at best. So, what did we learn from Fox? 1. They're Serious About X Factor Serious enough to trot out Britney Spears and Demi Lovato. Britney sounded hoarse but said she was "so excited for this whole experience," and Lovato seemed perky and vowed to "represent [her] generation." We shall see!2. Fox Care About You, LadiesReilly called Ben and Kate writer Dana Fox "part of the fempire" of female comedy writers, Mindy Kaling's new comedy, The Mindy Project, got a very hard sell, and New Girl and Zooey Deschanel got more time and »
