Charles Manson Dead at 83

Charles Manson, who led deranged followers known as the Manson Family into a series of horrific crimes that haunted Americans for over a generation, died Sunday at a California hospital, after being imprisoned for more than 45 years. He was 83 years old.

Manson was hospitalized Tuesday for an undisclosed ailment. He was serving nine life sentences, most recently incarcerated at Corcoran State Prison, near Bakersfield.

Debra Tate, the sister of the Manson Family's most high-profile victim, actress Sharon Tate, confirmed to CBS Los Angeles that she had received a call from California State Prison, Corcoran, at about 8:30 p.m. local time, informing her that Manson had died. The California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation later confirmed the news to Et.

The prosecutor in the Manson trial, Vincent Bugliosi, told CBS News in 2004 that people still asked him about the case 40 years later. "The Manson murder case, unlike any other mass murder case in history, continues to fascinate »

However, for every number that started with a powerful female artist telling off her haters, there was a number that featured Nick Jonas being groped by mysterious ghost hands.

For some of the 2017 AMAs' highlights and low points, here's our round-up of the best, worst and downright weirdest moments of the night.

After a night like this, how can we not all have Bts love in our DNA??

The Love Yourself: Her band made history on Sunday night as the first Korean pop group to perform at the American Music Awards, which was just one of their moments from the show that had fans -- and pretty much the world at large -- singing their praises. If you didn't know who they were before, their red carpet fashion, meme-able audience moments and impeccable choreography should have been more than enough to turn you into a superfan.

Here's all the reasons Rm and his bandmates pretty much stole the night.

Showing up in Saint Laurent, the group's seven members nailed the cardinal rule of award show red carpet fashion: make a statement. Most of the members went with classic fitted black pants, and let their creativity shine through their coat choices »

2017 American Music Awards: Why Pink and Kelly Clarkson Singing Rem’s ‘Everybody Hurts’ Is the Perfect Opening

Pink and Kelly Clarkson seem to know how we’re feeling.

This has been a year -- especially the last few months -- marked by a seemingly unending torrent of bad news, from natural disasters to a near-constant flow of revelations about sexual assault in nearly every industry.

As Jamie Foxx said while introducing the pair at the 2017 American Music Awards, "We needed the power of music to help us heal... 2017 was the year that tested our faith.”

So it was perfectly fitting that in the highly anticipated opening number, the two pop stars threw the combined weight of their vocal power behind a 25-year-old song -- R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts” -- that doesn’t shy away from getting serious, because it was originally written about teenage suicide.

"No, I don't," the 50-year-old actress argued in response to her husband saying Kidman has the most beautiful voice in the world. "I went down [to sing vocals] and I did it because he asked me to."

"He knows I have no confidence when it comes to singing," she added. "So I'll sing for him and that's it."

Lady Gaga Accepts Her American Music Award Live During Her Concert -- Watch!

Lady Gaga had one amazing night at the 2017 American Music Awards -- even though she wasn't actually there.

The singer was performing at a concert in Washington, D.C., while the AMAs were going down in Los Angeles, but that didn't keep her from singing her single "The Cure" as part of the star-studded show.

The shimmering superstar -- who looked a little more like her classic self with her bejeweled face decorations --  sat at a grand piano and belted out her powerful tune during her remote performance, as her D.C. concert crowd cheered her on.

The bombastic number quickly turned into a wild pyrotechnic display that rained sparks onto the stage, and very nearly onto her backup dancers.

Christina Aguilera made Whitney Houston proud!

The 36-year-old singer delivered an emotionally breathtaking performance dedicated to the late singer and her work in The Bodyguard for the drama's 25th anniversary on Sunday night's American Music Awards in Los Angeles.

Starting with a striking rendition of "I Will Always Love You," Aguilera made the record-setting tune her own with some of her signature flourishes, and flawlessly moved on to "I Have Nothing" and "I'm Every Woman," where she was joined by a chorus of black-robed women singing backup for the powerful anthem.
