Weekend Box Office Update

24 February 2013 11:34 AM, PST

This wasn’t a huge weekend for new movies at the box office, but Identity Thief isn’t complaining. The R-rated comedy held onto the top spot for another week with $14 million and has earned $93.7 million since opening.

Looking at previous releases from The Rock, second place for Snitch wasn’t bad at all. This was more of a limited release on 2,500 screens, and the movie’s $13 million opening weekend places it around the same as Walking Tall and better than Faster.

Dark Skies opened on 2,300 screens and took sixth place with $8.8 million. At first, this may seem like a terrible opening, but this was a Blumhouse production. Like other releases from Blumhouse, the movie was produced on a small budget of $3.5 million. Dark Skies won’t be a runaway hit, like Insidious, but we don’t think this movie will be losing money after it hits Blu-ray and DVD. »

The Walking Dead: New Photos and Videos from Episode 311

23 February 2013 3:08 PM, PST

As promised, we’re back with a new batch of photos from episode 11 of The Walking Dead Season 3. We’ve also included recently released photos and videos for those that missed our earlier coverage. This episode was directed by Greg Nicotero, and fans should enjoy a particularly interesting and gruesome zombie scene delivered this time around by the FX master.

Similar to Episode 309, I Ain’t a Judas is an episode that sets up future events. That doesn’t mean this isn’t an enjoyable episode, but don’t expect wall-to-wall action. Andrea is the main focus, but Merle’s presence in the prison is definitely front and center as well.

Speaking of Andrea, we’re always working on putting together new Walking Dead features, and should have an exclusive interview with Laurie Holden coming up next month. Other upcoming coverage includes an interview to discuss The Walking Dead collectibles, »

Marvel Teases Upcoming George Romero Zombie Comic Book Series

23 February 2013 10:03 AM, PST

During an interview late last year, George Romero gave a status update on a variety of projects he’s working on and revealed that he’s involved with a zombie comic book series for Marvel. We still don’t know much about it, but Marvel posted a new image, teasing when the series will be released.

Here’s what Romero had to about his upcoming project and the Marvel series last October (via Twitch): “I am in fact adapting a novel right now, and it is a zombie novel, but it’s not my kind of zombies. It’s a novel called The Zombie Autopsies written by a Harvard medical doctor. It’s a wonderful book and I’m having a wonderful time adapting it into a screenplay. I am also working on an original story, which I guess if I had to categorize it, I would say it’s a psychological thriller. »
