Weekend Box Office Update

9 December 2012 1:02 PM, PST

With Playing for Keeps being the only new wide release this weekend, the box office numbers were relatively low and only two movies crossed the $10 million mark. With that being said, it’s great news for Skyfall, as it reclaimed the top spot in it’s fifth week at the box office and has earned a total of $261.6 million since opening.

Looking at last weekend’s results, we knew Skyfall taking first this weekend was a strong possibility because the Twilight movies are traditionally font loaded and Skyfall had strong ticket sales week-to-week. The Guillermo del Toro-produced Rise of the Guardians was the only other film to break the $10 million mark. The movie has been underperforming, so Dreamworks Animation must be at least a little bit happy to see it taking second place.

The box office slowdown will end next weekend, when The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens in 4,000+ screens. »

7 December 2012 3:46 PM, PST

The Walking Dead #105 will be available next week and the first set of preview pages from the upcoming issue have been released. Rick’s plans for Negan will certainly change when he discovers that Carl has been captured. We want to thank THR for the preview pages below.

Early next week, we should have some additional preview pages and our impressions of the issue. If you want an idea of what to expect from this story arc, we have the cover art for the next few issues and it should give you an idea of where the plot is headed and who is still alive. Exclusive: Brandon Seifert talks New Hellraiser Comic Book Series

7 December 2012 1:47 PM, PST

Last week, Boom! Studios officially announced the relaunch of their Hellraiser comic book with Hellraiser: The Dark Watch. The new series will be co-written by Witch Doctor‘s Brandon Seifert, who is also working on the miniseries Hellraiser: The Road Below. I recently had a chance to catch up with Brandon and asked him about the miniseries, working with Clive Barker, and what we can expect from The Dark Watch:

How did you become involved with the Hellraiser comic book series? Did Boom! and Clive reach out to you because of your work on Witch Doctor or did you reach out to them?

Brandon Seifert: Last year, I put out Witch Doctor with Lukas, and Boom! saw it, liked it, and emailed me asking if I could do a story for the Hellraiser Annual in April. Out of all stuff that Boom! does, Hellraiser was what I »

Release Date Announced for The Lords of Salem

7 December 2012 10:56 AM, PST

We know that many of our readers have been interested in checking out Rob Zombie’s The Lords of Salem and a theatrical release date has been announced. Rob Zombie just revealed that Anchor Bay will release the movie to Us theaters on April 26th.  He also mentioned that he has teamed up with author B.K. Evenson for a movie tie-in book that will be available in March.

This was a big acquisition for Anchor Bay, so we believe they will give this movie a bigger push in theaters than their previous releases. With that being said, their recent movies have included a limited theatrical opening, followed by a Blu-ray/DVD release the week after, so we’re still expecting something similar for The Lords of Salem. As soon as Anchor Bay details their release plans, we’ll make sure to let readers know about it.

Obsessed with learning the truth, she becomes the only person standing between Earth and an alien invasion.”

He talks about his favorite moments from the first half of the season, as well as his role in the mid-season finale, “Made to Suffer”:

*Spoiler Warning: This interview contains spoilers from episode 3.08*

How far ahead of time did you know of Oscar’s fate in episode 8? Did you know before the episode started filming?

Vincent M. Ward: You usually get the call about your death, but I ended up reading about it. I say that is my fault because I was in make-up that day and the new script was just sitting there. So, I started reading and…”Oscar dies???” [laughs] I was in shock, »

6 December 2012 2:02 PM, PST

Guillermo del Toro has his hands in movies, books, video games, and we can now add musicals to the list. A new report reveals that del Toro is moving forward with a stage musical adaptation of Pan’s Labyrinth.

Deadline reports that Paul Williams has signed on to write the lyrics, while Oscar-winner Gustavo Santaolalla will be composing the music. Here’s what del Toro had to say about them coming on board:

“I admire and love Gustavo and Paul wrote the perfect album in Phantom Of The Paradise, which I have loved for decades”

While it’s still too early for release or casting details, Guillermo del Toro and Jeremy Ungar have completed a book for the stage version. The project has been in development for the last four years, but sounds like it’s picking up steam, so we should have more details in the very near future. »

Infographic: Breakdown of All On-Screen Zombie Kills from The Walking Dead

6 December 2012 11:00 AM, PST

Back in October, we showed you an infographic someone put together with kill stats from the first two seasons of The Walking Dead. It was pretty good, but we now have the most extensive breakdown we’ve seen, detailing all on-screen zombie kills from the first season to the middle of season 3.

Not only does the infographic show the number of walker kills per character and a season breakdown, but also the weapon used, and they have details for each walker. We’re sure this is going to come in handy to settle a dispute or two about deaths on the show. Also, keep in mind that season 3 is only at the halfway mark. With another eight episodes to go, it’s likely that we’ll see more zombie deaths in the third season than the other two combined.

We want to give a big thanks to the National Posts »

Jonathan Demme No Longer Adapting Stephen King’s 11/22/63

6 December 2012 9:00 AM, PST

Even before Stephen King’s 11/22/63 had been released, Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs) had acquired film rights, with plans to write and direct. We haven’t heard much on the project since last year and it has been revealed that Demme is no longer working on the adaptation.

The Playlist recently spoke with Demme, who told them that the reason behind him exiting the project was that he and Stephen King had different ideas for what they wanted to see in the script:

“This is a big book, with lots in it. And I loved certain parts of the book for the film more than Stephen did. We’re friends, and I had a lot of fun working on the script, but we were too apart on what we felt should be in and what should be out of the script… I had an option and I let it go. »
