Star Trek Into Darkness Movie Review: Melodrama in Space

16 May 2013 6:32 PM, PDT

Director J.J. Abrams manages to deliver an edge-of-your-seat action movie, but at times Star Trek Into Darkness feels a bit melodramatic.

The relationship saga continues between Spock (Zachary Quinto) and Captain Kirk  (Chris Pine), which was the heart of the 2009 Star Trek reboot. Their interaction is the glue that holds the film together.  The budding romance between Uhura and Spock  complicates matters and adds dimension to the characters, although by the second act the interspecies love birds have made up. Imagine having a Vulcan as your boyfriend?  Not exactly the best match for sharing your feelings with.

Star Trek Into The Darkness New Movie Clip: Spock vs Volcano

Both Uhura and Kirk throughout the film try to appeal to Spock’s human side, which Spock fights against.  By the end, we actually see a transformation of Spock that almost seems unlike him.

Watch Video Below

CineMovie’s Fernando Esquivel sat down with the Star Trek Into Darkness actress who plays Uhura in the beloved sci-fi franchise. In the sequel to the 2009 hit directed by J.J. Abrams, Uhura’s romance with Spock continues to get complicated as the Vulcan’s inability to show human emotion certainly wears on the interspecies love birds. When asked if its any different than a relationship with your average earthling male, Zoe says that’s Uhura’s attraction to Spock is because of his half-human, half-Vulcan sensibility.  Uhura and Kirk, according to Zoe, are attempting to

Sandra Bullock and George Clooney finds themselves in space for this out of this world thriller by director Alfonso Cuaron.  The first trailer for Gravity sets up quite a cliff hanger for the new sci-fi flick.

Sandra Bullock goes where she's never gone before--into space.  Bullock's co-star George Clooney revisits the outer limits once again after the disastrous Steven Soderbergh's space drama Solaris in 2002. From Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron (Y Tu Mamá También, Children of Men, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) comes an intriguing project that stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as astronauts sent into orbit literally when their space station breaks apart. The scene in the trailer sets up the accident which might send Bullock's Dr. Stone into orbit without a lifeline.

It's not clear what happens to Clooney's character,
