Say what you want about Nicki Minaj’s opinion — and sure, sometimes it’s as crazy as her wigs — but unlike so many ineffective American Idol judges of yore, there’s never any doubt about where she stands.
Nicki’s bracing honesty was never more appreciated than during the opening half of Season 12 Hollywood Week, when too many guy contestants milked their sob stories, lobbied for sympathy votes or acted like entitled buffoons in their quest to keep alive the show’s streak of five straight male winners.

Justin Bieber Hosts Saturday Night Live: What Were the Best and Worst Sketches?

I can’t lie and pretend I was excited when I heard the news that Justin Bieber was hosting Saturday Night Live, but sometimes low expectations can yield unexpectedly happy returns.
In that spirit, the good news for Bieber is that he fared funnier than fellow pop star Adam Levine, who hosted SNL two weeks ago. Indeed, Bieber proved a self-deprecating headliner, gamely allowing himself to be the butt of jokes about looking like he’s 11, still possessing his baby teeth and resembling talk-show maven Ellen DeGeneres (among other lesbians).

Ratings: Touch Down, Bum Job, CSI: NY Ties Season High, Nikita Ticks Up

Fox’s rejiggered, more-24ier-than-ever! Touch returned on Friday night to 3.8 million total viewers and a 1.0 demo rating across its two-hour opener. That’s down 20 and 23 percent from its Season 1 finale. (The series’ launch led out of Idol so… oranges.)
Also opening on the low side Friday was CBS’ The Job, which with 4.1 mil and a 0.9 was down more than 50 percent from time slot predecessor Undercover Boss and only outrated Nikita in the 8 o’clock hour.
Lead-out CSI: NY (9.44 mil/1.6) nonetheless ticked up to match its season high in the demo. Blue Bloods was flat at 11.1 mil/1.5, drawing the night »

Pilot Scoop: Grey's Anatomy Alum Kim Raver to Headline CBS' NCIS: LA Spin-Off

Kim Raver has scored the female lead in CBS’ NCIS: Los Angeles spin-off, TVLine has learned.
The Grey’s Anatomy and 24 actress will play Special Agent Paris, the athletic, smart, witty and bold leader of the Red team. Paris has a Degree in Forensic Science, can drive a golf ball 300 yards and has a brain snapping Iq in the 98th percentile. She prefers to, and often does, work alone.

Pilot News: Friday Night Lights Vet Aimee Teegarden Breathes In Oxygen at The CW

Aimee Teegarden is reuniting with The CW.
The Friday Night Lights actress, who last season toplined the network’s initial Selection pilot, has landed the lead role in the drama pilot Oxygen, our sister site Deadline reports.

Pilot Scoop: Breaking Bad's Jonathan Banks Joins NBC Pulp Action Thriller Bloodline

Breaking Bad‘s Jonathan Banks has joined the cast of NBC’s pulpy drama pilot Bloodline.
Banks will play Leo Killpriest, the patriarch of an ancient line of killers, in the Kill Bill-esque stylized drama.
Bloodline follows an orphaned girl named Bird Benson who’s caught between two families of murderers and mercenaries. In order to eventually have a normal life, Bird learns, she must defeat her mother via mortal combat.

Pilot Scoop: Christina Ricci Signs on as NBC Comedy's Girlfriend in a Coma

Christina Ricci will star in NBC’s comedy pilot Girlfriend in a Coma.
The former Pan Am star will play Karen, a woman who wakes from a years-long coma to discover she has a 17-year-old daughter from a pregnancy she never knew about.

NBC Cancels Do No Harm After Two Episodes; Svu Repeats to Fill Thursday Void

NBC has permanently suppressed Dr. Cole’s evil alter ego.
The network on Friday afternoon pulled the plug on its Jekyll-and-Hyde-esque medical thriller Do No Harm after just two anemically rated episodes.
The freshman drama’s Jan. 31 debut garnered 3.1 million total viewers and a 0.9 demo rating, making it the lowest-rated, in-season debut of any scripted Big 4 series ever. This week’s second installment fared worse, dropping to just over 2 million viewers and a 0.7 demo rating.
Do No Harm wrapped production on its initial 13-episode order last month; it’s unclear if the 11 remaining episodes will see the light of day. »

Fowler, whose credits include a guest appearance in the BBC America drama The Hour, will play Twitch, a good-looking, savvy, streetwise, teenage boy, charming and manipulative.

Shocker: Christina Applegate Quits Up All Night

TVLine Items: HBO Orders Pilot From Lost Boss, Community Premiere Trends and More!

HBO has given a pilot order to The Leftovers, a drama project from Lost boss Damon Lindelof and author Tom Perrotta, Vulture reports.
Based on the 2011 novel of the same name, the prospective series examines life on Earth after a Rapture-like event occurs.
Lindelof will co-write and executive-produce the pilot with Perrotta, and also will act as showrunner should HBO move forward with the series.
