Top 10 Movies of the Year (So Far)

Even though 2013 is only halfway done, over 75 movies have been released in theaters with many more yet to come from now through December. As is true every year most of the best are independently financed productions. Thankfully, studios big and small are seeing better returns from indie fair and are making them more accessible to the public either through a larger theatrical push or VOD services. The first half of this year came with some entertaining and thought provoking films, but I'm really looking forward to October/November when the big Oscar contenders start showing their faces. Christian Bale Says He Won't Return to Play Batman in Justice League

Warner Bros has been trying to develop Justice League, a team up movie which will feature some of DC Comics' most popular characters including Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and The Flash, for years. The 2011 film Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds was supposed to be launching point for the cinematic DC universe, but it's critical and financial failure caused the studio to re-evaluate their plans. Several months ago WB execs confirmed that their Superman reboot Man of Steel would be the linchpin of the franchise pending its success. Good news for comics fans is that the Zack Snyder directed feature has already grossed over $500 million world wide, and a sequel has already been announced.
