The Hobbit breaks some records

16 December 2012 12:02 PM, PST

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey set a new December opening weekend record, pulling in nearly $85 million over the weekend. The 3D version of Peter Jackson’s movie accounted for nearly half of all ticket sales and IMAX showings accounted for nearly 12 percent. Combine this with $138,200,000 from the Foreign box office (us lot over here) and The Hobbit has pulled in over $222 million worldwide. With an estimated budget of $180 million, it’s turning into the green (in more ways than one) and it’s probably a safe bet to say this will pull in close to $400 million over the holidays with repeat viewings a-plenty as well as many folks breaking out of their house away from turkeys, stuffing and sherry swilling grannies. Pacific Rim Q&A with Guillermo del Toro

13 December 2012 2:09 AM, PST

By now we have all seen the trailer for Pacific Rim, Guillermo Del Toro's epic giant monster smackdown (you haven't!? watch it here), and unless you are an actual robot, it would have blown your mind. Now, thanks to aint it cool, we have this Q And A with the director, showing how much the director has invested in this movie. Filmed at the 14th annual Butt-Numb-a-Thon, an epic 24 hour movie event aptly referred to as Geek Christmas, you can really feel the love Del Toro has for Pacific Rim. He grew up with these kinds of movies, even drawing giant robots when he was smaller, and now he is getting the chance to make one. As he says, it's " a film made by fans, but not a fan film". If I wasn't already over the top excited, that phrase alone would push me over for the 12th of July 2013 release date. »

Awesome first trailer for Pacific Rim - Must Watch

12 December 2012 5:54 PM, PST

Warner Bros. have given us our first look at Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim, and as you can expect from the director who brought us Hellboy and Pans Labyrinth, visually it is out of this world. A throw back to classic Japanese monster movies, I have been looking forward to this for a long time, and seeing the movies giant robots and monsters in action........well, next year can not come about quick enough.  Synopsis: From acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ epic sci-fi action adventure “Pacific Rim.” When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end.  To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose »

Casting Rumours For Transformers 4

12 December 2012 9:14 AM, PST

It seems Transformers 4 may have new additions sorted for the upcoming project. After confirmation of Mark Wahlberg signing on Director Michael Bay has reportedly secured the services of Brenton Thwaites and Nicola Peltz respectively. After a lengthy search the pair have been chosen to appear in the successful franchise. No word on the script as yet but it is speculated that the story is to continue a few years after Dark Of The Moon. While the actors are relatively unknown currently this is sure not to worry Bay as Shia Labeouf was not exactly a household name. Peltz is to play Wahlberg’s daughter, while Thwaites is close to the role of her boyfriend, a biker enthusiast. Both starlets are set for world wide recognition assuming all goes well for the fourth outing for Optimus and company. Peltz has previously appeared in Deck The Halls and The Last Airbender »

Awesome Jack The Giant Slayer Poster

12 December 2012 7:30 AM, PST

I’m genuinely looking forward to Jack The Giant Slayer. The trailer we showed you back in November really hooked me in and it’s promising to be a good old fashioned adventure flick, not to mention having Bryan Singer at the helm as well! The latest poster has arrived, and while it reminds me of something like Uncharted on the PS3, it is rather awesome!   Synopsis: An ancient war is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack (Nicholas Hoult), into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom and its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend… »

Gangster Squad Author Paul Lieberman Q&A

12 December 2012 7:22 AM, PST

Gangster Squad is poised to be one of the first big movies of 2013, when it finally arrives in cinemas. Below is a fascinating Questions and Answers session with the author Paul Lieberman, who’s popular Los Angeles Times column ‘'La Noir: Tales From The Gangster Squad' inspired the movie. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone will star alongside Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and a host of other fantastic actors. The Q&A gives a real insight into the mind behind the inspiration!!! And we've even included some old school era “noir” pics! Q: Anyone who sees the trailer for Warner Bros.’ movie version of “Gangster Squad” might think this is a classic cops-v.-robbers tale with lots of shootouts. But the book is much more, isn’t it? Yes, absolutely. On the surface, sure, it is the tale of two Los Angeles police veterans who become obsessed with the showboating »

The first preview image from Monsters University has dropped into my inbox from the nice folks at Disney, and what an image it is too!! To really appreciate this we’ve included a super-hi res version once you click on the actual image! Makes a great wallpaper too! Official Man of Steel trailer - Must Watch

11 December 2012 9:17 AM, PST

Warner Bros. has just posted the newest trailer for Man Of Steel online, and.......Wow! I wasn't too gone on Zach Snyder taking on Superman, but judging from this, he should be in safe hands. It's suitably epic, right down to the music, and we get our first, fleeting, glimpse of Michael Shannon as the movie's big bad, General Zod.       Synopsis: From Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures comes “Man of Steel,” starring Henry Cavill (“Immortals,” TV’s “The Tudors”) in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, under the direction of Zack Snyder (“300,” “Watchmen”). New The Lone Ranger trailer

11 December 2012 1:35 AM, PST

The latest trailer for Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger has hit, and I gotta say, I am really liking the look of this. Alot is being made of the movie's troubled production (several time it didn't like like it would be going forward at all), but this trailer, which plays up the supernatural elements that weren't even hinted at in the first, promises something that should be bucket loads of fun.  Synopsis: From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, comes Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger,” a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes.  Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the »

Samuel L. Jackson Speaks About Star Wars VII

10 December 2012 12:49 PM, PST

As a disgruntled Star Wars fan still reeling from the recent takeover by Disney (George how could you?!) I am not alone in the fact that this much loved and enduring franchise is seemingly being tampered with on a regular basis. Now as we all know in the much maligned Star Wars prequel (don’t even get me started on that one) Jedi Mastr Mace Windu played by Samuel L. Jackson fell to his apparent death after an encounter with the Siths. Now it seems this could be changed if Jackson’s recent interview to E! is anything to go by. In the piece Samuel explains how he would like to see his character make a return. He had this to say: "I'm not surprised but totally geeked by the idea of there being more Star Wars. It's like, okay, Obi-Wan was dead when episode four started, so maybe everyone »

New Star Trek Into Darkness image

10 December 2012 11:38 AM, PST

Our first look at Star Trek Into Darkness was suitably epic, and now we have another look at the movie, which sees Benedict Cumberbatch's still unnamed villain (clad in a Starfleet uniform) at the mercy of Kirk and Spock. I wouldn't be surprised if he's 'pulling a Loki', and wanted to be caught. Guess we'll find out next year. via Collider Synopsis: After the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.
