Saw’s Jigsaw Is the Worst Roommate Ever

In this short film, a man learns the hard way that living with Jigsaw from the Saw movies is not as cool as he thought it would be, with Jigsaw’s “games” being more annoying and mildly inconvenient than the devious life-or-death situations we’re used to seeing him devise.

“Living with Jigsaw” was written and directed by Chris Capel and stars Brendan McNamara.

VFX Behind The Scene Videos for Game Of Thrones and The Amazing Spider-man 2

One of the best parts of getting a movie or TV show on disc is all the special features. I just enjoy watching how these stories are crafted. For large shows and movies, the biggest expenditure in the budget is often visual effects. Here we have an effects reel for Game of Thrones and a behind the scene video of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that show how the effects magic is made.

Trailer for the Documentary Starring Adam West

Here’s the trailer for a documentary called Starring Adam West. The doc takes us though the life of Adam West, who was an unknown actor in the ‘50s, but thanks to his starring role as Batman, became a household name in the ‘60s. However, as Batman expert and West’s Family Guy co-star Ralph Garman explains, “Adam West became a huge star on television at a time where the stereotyping curse was in full force.” By 1970, the actor’s career came to a standstill, and he was forced to make hokey public appearances and perform dangerous stunts to provide for his family.

You can currently stream the full-length documentary on Encore Play and on Encore On Demand.

Video Study of David Fincher's Directing Techniques

Titled "The Fincher Effect" and made by Karan Chandra Bose, this 15min supercut of David Fincher's directing techniques is ultra fascinating. This video is over a year old but as Fincher has yet to release a film since its release, the video study is still current. I pretty much love or enjoy all his films and he's one of my favorite directors.

Just for fun, I've listed all of Fincher's films in order of my most favorite to least.

Fight Club Panic RoomThe Social NetworkZodiacSe7enThe Girl with the Dragon TattooThe Game The Curious Case of Benjamin ButtonAlien 3

Obviously your own personal list would be different. It's a fun exercise if you want join in on the comments.

Tom Gauld’s Amusing Pitches for the Jaws Reboot

Nothing seems to have come of those rumors of a Jaws reboot that surfaced last year. The closest thing we’ve seen to a new Jaws film has been Gareth EdwardsGodzilla. However, cartoonist Tom Gauld has some funny ideas for the possible new Jaws franchise that he illustrated for The Guardian. If these pitches aren’t ridiculous enough, you can always just wait for Sharknado 3 to come out.

The "Science" Behind Fire Flowers in Super Mario

How do the Fire Flower power ups from the world of Super Mario work? Well, Mashed offers up a “scientific” explanation that is completely made-up, absolutely absurd, and utterly hilarious. They explore tough and grammatically incorrect questions like, “What is a Fire Flower? How does it work? And what does it are?”

“The Science Of Power Ups: Fire Flower” was written by Eddie Bowley and animated by KrEid. Thanks to Mashed for sending this our way. Be sure to check out more of their cartoon spoofs on their YouTube channel and follow them on Twitter.

Bang Bang Baby Trailer Is Trippy Good Fun

If you’ve been waiting for a revival of the ‘60s-style science fiction musical (I know I have), Bang Bang Baby just might be the movie for you. Starring Jane Levy, Justin Chatwin, and Peter Stormare, the movie is about an aspiring singer in a small town whose dreams seem about to come true when her favorite rockstar comes to her town, until their chance meeting is maybe ruined when the local chemical plant springs a leak and everyone starts mutating.

I know you’re probably thinking that we’ve seen this movie a hundred times before, but... Just kidding. We've never seen anything like this before. Director Jeffrey St. Jules has brought a surreal, kitschy aesthetic that looks wicked fun. Bang Bang Baby will premiere on September 8 at the Toronto Film Festival. I’m interested to see the reviews, because this looks like a unique moviegoing experience. You can watch the trailer below. »

Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy Figurines Are Off the Effin' Chain

Some of the most inventive, entertaining, genre-bending comedies of the last decade were the Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy — Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End. Kibooki at Evil Corp has paid tribute to the collaborations between Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and director Edgar Wright by designing this series of figurines. Sadly, they aren’t in production. These are just illustrations of what the figurines would look like. I would really love to have these on my shelf. The fact that I can't makes me want to shoot my gun in the air and yell "Aaaaagh!"*

Gone Girl opens in about a month, and the marketing will likely kick into high gear soon. Today we have 16 photos that look a lot like screen caps from the 3 trailers released so far. Director David Fincher is one of my favorite directors, and I'm looking forward to his new movie.

Gone Girl's mystery will unravel on October 3rd (USA).

New Star Wars Rebels Clip: "Not What You Think"

We’re just over a month away from the October 3 premiere of Star Wars Rebels, and we’re all pretty excited. Here’s a new clip, called "not What You Think," in which rapscallion Ezra Bridger encounters a downed Tie Fighter on the plains of Lothai. He seems very eager to help the pilot, but you should remember that Ezra is a con artist, so things might not be what they seem.

Star Wars Rebels will premiere with a one hour special on Disney Channel, followed by a series on Disney Xd. The animated series will help establish the world for Star Wars: Episode VII, so we'll be watching.

"The Truth About Hello Kitty" Comic by Dorkly

It was recently revealed that Hello Kitty is not a cat but a girl. The news caused an uproar all over the internet because it's contrary to what most people believe.

Here's quote from Sanrio via the La Times:

"Hello Kitty is not a cat. She's a cartoon character. She is a little girl. She is a friend. But she is not a cat. She's never depicted on all fours. She walks and sits like a two-legged creature. She does have a pet cat of her own, however, and it's called Charmmy Kitty."

The team at Dorkly created a comic that answers a major question about Hello Kitty's appearance — where did she get the head? Enjoy.

Avengers Go! Art by Sean Galloway and Brian Lawver

Who doesn't love chibi Avengers? You are correct, the answer is no one, so here's some slick and adorable art created by Sean Galloway and Brian Lawver. The original piece, which you can see below, was a commission for a fan. Once that was done Lawver bestowed upon it some beautiful paints, resulting in the snazzy image you see above. They both have some lovely work in their respective galleries, so make sure to take a look when you can.

By the way, that is the slickest-looking Iron Man I think I've ever seen. I love that design, and I hope at some point Marvel adopts a similar look for its super hero squad version of the character. Just saying.

The Walking Dead Monopoly - A 5 Things Review

Don't Mess With Michonne, even in Monopoly

With the premiere of The Walking Dead only a month and change away, I decided it was time to get reacquainted with the zombie apocalypse, and what better way to do that than by playing a rousing game of monopoly. Not just any Monopoly, though, as we have to keep it themed, so it's all about Walking Dead Monopoly.

Also, I think I’ve set a record for how many times I have used Monopoly in the opening paragraph of any post ever. If not, well then, Monopoly (I’m really competitive).

Okay, back to business. Since we all know how the core game plays, there is no need to go over it ad nauseam, so for things like this I’ve developed a different type of review, a 5 things review. Here are the 5 things that stuck out most about Skybound and USAopoly's latest venture. »

Why Joaquin Phoenix Might Not Be Doctor Strange

Last week, Collider broke the news that Joaquin Phoenix is (still? again?) in final talks to play Doctor Strange for Marvel. Other movie scoopers immediately objected, saying that the deal was unlikely because Phoenix had serious objections to signing the long term contract Marvel requires (generally nine films, with at least two exceptions). Badass Digest has reported that Phoenix’s reservations go much deeper.

First of all, they report that Marvel planned to unveil the casting at San Diego Comic-Con, exactly the way they announced Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk. Sources have told them that although Marvel did their best, they could not make the deal in time. Which is obvious, since six or so weeks later we still don’t have any official word on the role.

Next they make a claim that sounds pretty credible: Phoenix isn’t sure he is capable of working on a Marvel movie. »
