The Minecraft Version of Game Of Thrones' Westeros is More Impressive Than Ever

A couple of years ago, we featured a video of the Game of Thrones continent of Westeros as created in the game Minecraft. But now, the creators of that video are back with an update, and while we've been letting time pass like a bunch of time-wasters, they've been hard at work building a bigger and more detailed version of Westeros. WesterosCraft, as they call it, is a block-by-block recreation built by a community of thousands of people, and in this new video (narrated by Bran Stark himself, Isaac Hempstead-Wright), we get a great look at exactly how far they've come. It's a stunning achievement, and a testament to the idea of a group of people finding common interests online and creating something breathtaking. They're not quite done yet, but things are looking pretty damn impressive so far.

Two Kids Take a Traumatic Joy Ride in Cop Car - Sundance 2015 Review

Movies starring children are often a recipe for disaster, which was why I was hesitant to see Cop Car, starring Kevin Bacon. But hearing Bacon was in this movie enticed me to see it, as Bacon always does. It was a fantastic movie that didn't try to portray kids as the adorable charm machines that Hollywood wants them to be, but rather as real little kids doing kid things.

Hays Wellford and James Freedson-Jackson star as the two 10-year-old protagonists of this film who find a seemingly abandoned cop car in the nearby forest with the keys inside and claim it as their own. When the crooked sheriff, played by Bacon, returns to find his car missing, he's determined to find it and get it back.  For those thinking that the movie will be something akin to a kid friendly Ferris Bueller tale, with hijinks at every turn with Bacon »

Tron-Like Glowing Headphones

Glow is a headphone system that looks like something right out of Tron. This Kickstater project already met its goal, which means these headphones will most likely become real. They have several advanced options, but who cares - they freaking glow! No Photoshop trickery or special effects: you can seen from the embedded video that these things not only glow, but are very bright. Finally, these headphones are not cheap - to get a pair, it'll cost you $149.

For more details on project check out Glow's Kickstarter page.

John Wick Directors Could Helm Chris Pratt's Cowboy Ninja Viking

Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt may be an early favorite for Disney's revival of Indiana Jones, but before he (possibly) dons the fedora of the world's most famous archaeologist, Pratt will suit up in the film adaptation of the comic book Cowboy Ninja Viking. That project was left without a director when Marc Forster (World War Z) left, but now Variety reports that John Wick directors David Leitch and Chat Stahelski are in early talks to replace him.

The story, based on the comic written by A.J. Lieberman with art by Riley Rossmo, follows a man with schizophrenia who is part of a government program to turn schizophrenics into assassins. Pratt will play Duncan, who has the personalities and skill sets of a cowboy, a ninja, and a viking, and his attempt to hunt down the billionaire who began the program.

Pratt, who has apparently earned enough clout »

Infographic: Brace Yourself for the Future in This Video Game Timeline

If humanity suddenly were to start down the path created for us in video games, the future would be pretty damn bleak. Alien invasions, zombie outbreaks, genetic mutations, and evil corporations are just the start of our problems, and Romanian digital artist Norbert Demeter created a handy infographic (via Kotaku) that marks the passage of time and each new horror that humans would experience if we were in a gigantic shared video game universe. Check it out below:

Classic Mystique Cosplay by Rei-Doll

We've featured Irina Ushenina aka Rei-Doll's cosplay on GeekTyrant a few times, most notably in the Catwoman Best of Cosplay Collection. Despite five films with the "not nude" blue design, when I think of the character Mystique I always envision the comic design with the white dress, long white gloves, and long white boots.

Ushenina brilliantly uses a skin tight under-suit to side step the issue of blue body paint ruining a white costume. With a perfectly matched face makeup color the whole thing feel seamless. Great cosplay photos like these are no accident and in this case took a whole team to pull off, namely, photographer Kifir, Ryoko, PredatoR, Paula, Daniel and Mario.

Elizabeth Olsen Talks Scarlet Witch's Origin in Age Of Ultron, Possible Romance with Vision, and More

If you aren't familiar with the work of Elizabeth Olsen, I'd highly recommend checking out Martha Marcy May Marlene. The young actress wasn't really given much to do in last year's Godzilla, but she's immensely talented, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what Joss Whedon - a writer known for crafting solid female roles - does with her Scarlet Witch character in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Olsen was recently interviewed by Empire (via Cbm), and she spoke a bit about her character and what we can expect to see in the highly-anticipated blockbuster.

"The coolest thing about Scarlet Witch is, because you've never seen her, we got to create how she moves. Joss was really inspired by dancers, and so he knew that he wanted to change visually how she moves, to be more like a dancer than a fighter. I didn't really have to do much stunt training. »

Awesome Captain America: Civil War Fan-Made Trailer

It's going to be a long time before we actually see any kind of footage from Marvel's Captain America: Civil War, but at least we have creative fans to keep us excited for what is to come! Today we have an epic fan-made trailer to share with you created Alex Luthor, who uses footage from already existing films to weave the Civil War storyline together. As you'll see, it turned out to be pretty freakin' cool. Luthor did a hell of a job editing this exciting video together, so enjoy!

Sundance ‘15 Review: Jared Hess’ Don Verdean

For Don Verdean, director Jared Hess reunites with Sam Rockwell and Jemaine Clement, who both starred in Gentlemen Broncos, Hess’ last feature length effort which was not released nationally due to the abysmal critical reception it received. In the review I wrote for Broncos back in 2009, like many other critics, I cited that the film’s use of feces and vomit would likely turn audiences off, unaware that complaints like mine would end up turning the powers that be off to running the film nationally at all. While I liked it more than most, looking back, the director did abandon quality storytelling for gross out humor and often overwhelming quirkiness. Hess dials back the zaniness in Don Verdean without losing his signature touches and provides a better stage for Rockwell and Clement, who gave great comedic performances in their last outing with the director but didn’t actually share any screen time. »

Here's Why The Hobbit Films Suck in Comparison to The Lord Of The Rings

Sean Hickey, a student and member of the Dublin Business School's Film Society, has a new video essay which brilliantly lays out all of the reasons why Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy is a complete joke when compared with The Lord of the Rings films. And it's not just the typical complaints, either: he barely touches on the fact that they stretched this story into three movies, spending much more time diving into direct comparisons between the two trilogies and showing why The Lord of the Rings is superior in every way when it comes to basic storytelling. This just became my go-to video to send to anyone who tries to argue that The Hobbit films are solid, because I honestly don't know how you can watch this and still believe that those movies are anything other than pale imitations of what came before it. Is Martin Freeman a great Bilbo? »

Ted Goes to Court in First Trailer for Ted 2

Universal has released the first trailer for Ted 2, the sequel to the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy of all time. Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane returns as co-writer, director, and mo-cap star of the film as Ted the bear, and Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, Morgan Freeman, and more join him in live action.

Looks like Ted is heading to court this time around to prove that he's actually human, and like the first film as a whole, this trailer is pretty hit-or-miss for me. Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Star Wars: Battle Pod — "Concept to Cockpit" Video

I recently had an opportunity to play the Star Wars arcade game released in 1983. Its line-rendered 3D graphics were impressive, but the gameplay was pretty limited...oh how times have changed. Last year Lucasfilm and Bandai Namco announced Star Wars: Battle Pod, which would have an immersive pod shaped screen, rumble seat, blowing air, and surround sound. If you haven't seen the trailer, you can check it out here.

Recently released on the Star Wars YouTube channel is a video titled "From Concept to Cockpit," that shows the development of the arcade cabinet. I've got a Dave and Buster's near me that I need to checkout to see if Star Wars: Battle Pod is there. I did some searches to see if there is a list of locations with the game, but have yet to find one to share.

Super Bowl TV Spot for Terminator Genisys Arrives Early

He's back. Following this morning's release of a new photo for Paramount's Terminator Genisys, the studio has debuted its Super Bowl TV spot a few days early. It contains a bunch of new footage and teases the face-off between two Arnold Schwarzenegger T-800s that we wrote about yesterday. I really want to like this movie, but even after seeing this footage, I'm still not quite convinced. I wish I was more excited right now, but I'd love to be surprised at how great it is when I walk out of the theater after seeing it. Here's hoping director Alan Taylor can craft something better than that awful Thor sequel with this one.

Terminator Genisys arrives in theaters on July 1st.

When John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and safeguard the future, an »

Video: "Top 10 Cancelled Video Games" by WatchMojo

Video games get canceled all the time and for lots of various reasons, and it can be especially heartbreaking when it's a beloved franchise or a sequel to an amazing game. The team at WatchMojo has assembled what they think are the top 10 cancelled video games. My number one would be Star Wars: 1313, which is different than their pick.

The Stanford Prison Experiment Was Freakin' Jacked-Up - Sundance 2015 Review

The Stanford Prison Experiment might be the most jacked-up movie that I've seen at Sundance this year. The thing that makes the film so compelling and disturbing is the fact that it's based on a true story. I wasn't aware that this ever happened, but it did, and it was pretty messed up.

The story is set in 1971, when a Stanford psychology professor named Dr. Philip Zimbardo puts together a prison experiment in which he recruits a group of young students to study the psychology of imprisonment. With the flip of a coin the professor decides which of the students will be prison guards, and which ones will be inmates. In the process we see how these people react and adapt to this situation. When you first meet everyone, they all seem like nice guys who would never really do anything too crazy — they seem like they all have good heads on their shoulders. »

Hot Toys Reveals Thanos Action Figure from Guardians Of The Galaxy

Hot Toys has released a collection of photos revealing their Mad Titan Thanos collectible action figure from Guardians of the Galaxy. They've been teasing this figure for a while, and it's great to finally see it in all its detailed glory. This is the villain who is going to raise hell for the Avengers in the Avengers: Infinity War saga.

It's going to be incredible to see this character fully realized in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Everything has just been kind of a big tease so far, but he's going to explode on screen in a big way in the coming years. There's a lot of exciting stuff to look forward too!

“The only matter I do not take seriously, boy, is you.” Thanos is one of the most infamous Marvel villains in comic book history. His first appearance in The Avengers has already got fans widely discussing the Mad »

Terminator Genisys - New Photo of Arnold Schwarzenegger's Aged T-800

Arnold Schwarzenegger has released a new badass promo photo of himself as an aged, battered, and scarred T-800 from Terminator Genisys. We are going to see a new trailer for this highly anticipated sci-fi action film during the Super Bowl this weekend, so stay tuned for that awesomeness! Hopefully it's loaded with new footage. Like many of you, I'm a huge fan of this franchise, and I truly hope this movie gives the fans a story they will love.

The beginning of Terminator: Genisys, the first of three planned films that Paramount hopes will relaunch the beloved sci-fi franchise, is set in 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the ApesJason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Divergent‘s Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, »

Why Parasyte: The Maxim Should Be The Next Great Anime On Your List

Let me start off by saying (because some elitist in the Facebook comments who won't read this post probably will) that the Parasyte series has long existed in Japanese pop culture. It began as a Manga way back in 1988 and enjoyed a seven year run before discontinuing in 1995. Recently, the series experienced a resurgence in the form of two live action films, and this amazing anime series.

If You Like Attack On Titan...This Blows That Away.

Simply put, Parasyte is about an invasion. Small wormlike creatures are invading human bodies and controlling their brains to feast on other humans for sustenance. This invasion is widely unrecognized by the human race until one teenage boy, Shinichi Izumi, ties a tourniquet around his arm to prevent an invading creature from getting to his brain. This forces the being to mature within his arm and become sentient. Migi, as he is called, »

Jimmy Olsen Cast in Supergirl Series

CBS has cast Necessary Roughness actor Mehcad Brooks to co-star alongside Glee's Melissa Benoist in their adaptation of DC ComicsSupergirl. He will be taking on the role of Jimmy Olsen, and he doesn't look like the bumbling, nerdy kid we all imagined he'd be. This guy looks like he could easily sweep any girl off their feet, and he also looks like he could kick some ass if he needed to.

THR reports that in the series, Olsen is a photographer at CatCo., which is where Kara works as well. He's described as being "the salt of the earth [which] only makes Kara crush on him even more." The report goes on to say that "the character has recently been living and working in National City though the reason is still a secret. As Kara emerges as Supergirl they grow closer."

I don't recall Olsen and Supergirl ever »

Review: Escape From New York's Snake Plissken Sixth-Scale Figure from Sideshow

There may be some young whippersnappers reading GeekTyrant who don’t know who Snake Plissken is. To you I say, get thee to a nunnery. Or really, just Amazon, where you can stream John Carpenter's Escape From New York. Snake Plissken is a badass’ badass. A special forces soldier turned rebel turned turned prisoner turned man on a mission, he always lives by his own conscience, and he is the man who made Kurt Russell a badass. Now, Sideshow Collectibles has immortalized him in a 1/6 Scale Figure. And because I am luckier than you, they sent me one to review.

Unlike some other Sideshow figures, Snake Plissken only comes with one face/head, but that isn’t because they were too lazy to make more faces, it’s because Plissken only has one facial expression. He sneers without sneering, and this figure captures that almost-sneer perfectly. Plus, the wizards at »
