Star Wars X-Wing and Tie Fighter Engagement Rings

19 April 2014 9:30 AM, PDT

We have featured a lot of Star Wars rings on the site before, including this R2D2 inspired ring by jeweler Paul Michael Bierker of Paul Michael Designs. Well, Paul has been in his studio cranking out more awesome Star Wars fine jewelry, like his X-Wing and Tie Fighter engagement rings. The Tie Fighter ring can be crafted from gold, silver, platinum, or palladium, and features a 1 ct black diamond. I don’t have specs on the X-Wing ring because it hasn’t hit his etsy store yet. He posted it on his Facebook page last week. Hopefully it is available for purchase soon because wedding season is coming, and engagement season follows right on its heels. Check out his shop even if you aren't ready for that level of commitment, he has tons of geeky jewelry anyone would love.

Joss Whedon's In Your Eyes - Chilling Opening Scene

19 April 2014 9:30 AM, PDT

The Avengers director Joss Whedon wrote and produced a new film called In Your Eyes, and today we have a clip to share from the supernatural thriller. The clip is the opening scene from the film, and it completely hooked me! Whedon is such a great storyteller,  I loved what I saw here and I'm excited to see more.

The film stars Zoe Kazan (Ruby Sparks) and Michael Stahl-David (Cloverfield) and the story "takes place in the winter and tells the story of Rebecca, a soft-spoken doctor’s wife living on the East Coast, and Dylan, an ex-con struggling to make a fresh start in New Mexico, who somehow find themselves inexplicably and metaphysically connected."

Nikki Reed and Jennifer Grey are also in the cast of the movie which is set to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival this weekend. Thanks to EW for the embed!

The Dark Knight Noir Trilogy Poster Set

19 April 2014 9:01 AM, PDT

The Dark Knight Trilogy has been a popular subject for artists, but this set of posters is the best I’ve seen. I love the way that artist Doaly incorporates a major architectural element from each film into a bold, noir-style graphic design. I also love the mass of flying bats that serves as a throughline connecting the series. Doaly left this note about the project:

I wanted the posters to be based on the monologues of the three films which chart the character’s progression as he comes full circle.

It’s taken a while but I’m happy to finally be able to post the full set of The Dark Knight Noir Trilogy Poster Set together, I hope everyone likes it as much fun it was to create

The posters aren’t available for sale (yet), but check out his store for other cool posters.

Zelda: Wind Waker Style Link Nendoroid Available for Pre-Order

19 April 2014 7:30 AM, PDT

Legend of Zelda fans have no shortage of cool gear and collectibles to display on their desk. That said, for fans of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, I might have something you’d be interested in. Up for preorder is the new Nendoroid (read: a really cool posable figure) of Wind Waker Link. What’s cool about this series of figures, which is made by The Good Smile Company, is the number of available accessories that come with them, including a heart container, his sword, and last but not least, the wind waker itself. If you get bored of one of his expressions, you can just swap it out for something else, and by far my favorite is Link’s pissed off face, which might have to just go permanently on my desk to keep people from stealing my paperclips.

The statue is up for preorder now, »

Tony Stark Flirting with Some Disney Princesses

18 April 2014 4:00 PM, PDT

Robert Downey Jr. threw this fun piece of art up on Facebook earlier today. It features Tony Stark surrounded by the Disney princesses, and it came with the caption,

"Best part about a Disney deal…"

Are you sure it's not the millions upon millions of dollars they pay you to be in their movies? Because that would be the best part about it for me!

The illustration was created by artist Ryan Adriandhy, and I'm sure Marvel and Disney fans will get a kick out of it. »

Fox Picks Up Men Who Kill for Michael B. Jordan

18 April 2014 3:30 PM, PDT

Well, here’s some good news for those of us who have been just a little bit worried about Vince ever since Coach moved to Philly, Fox just bought a pitch that they will develop expressly as a star vehicle for Michael B. Jordan. He’s going to be ok, you guys. The project is called Men Who Kill, and it was pitched by T.J. Fixman. According to Deadline, it has an “international Bad Boys” kind of feel to it.

Although he’s been working in TV for awhile, Jordan’s breakout came with last year’s Fruitvale Station. Since then he has racked up a slew of high profile gigs, including the Fantastic Four reboot and a planned Rocky sequel, for which he will play Apollo Creed's grandson for the writer and director of Fruitvale Station, Ryan Coogler. His star is rising fast and doesn’t seem to »

Watch 10 Minutes of The Amazing Spider-man 2 B-Roll

18 April 2014 2:30 PM, PDT

JoBlo got their hands on a ton of B-roll footage from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It might be a little bit spoiler, because it’s behind the scenes footage of the cast and crew filming a lot of things. There’s little or no context, but you can probably piece some things together.

I really love watching B-roll because it shows the lie of moviemaking, especially on a big budget action film like this one. It gives away all their tricks, but some how it doesn’t kill the magic. Even though I know how the process works, I still watch movies and think, "How did they do that?!" Here’s how they do it: They shoot him, then her, then them together, then they shoot the big thing, then they add some stuff in post and edit it all together, and it’s a movie. I love it.

So check out this footage, »

Doctor Who Portrait Series by Tim Doyle

18 April 2014 2:00 PM, PDT

Check out this awesomely cool series of Doctor Who portraits created by artist Tim Doyle. I was late to the game with Doctor Who, but it quickly became one of my favorite series, and I'm so happy that it's still around. I hope it never ends. I love this set of illustrations featuring several of the Doctors and villains from the show. My favorite Doctor so far is Matt Smith, and my favorite villains are the weeping angels.

Chris Pine to Join Coast Guard Guard Film The Finest Hours

18 April 2014 1:30 PM, PDT

Star Trek actor Chris Pine is in talks to join Disney's coast guard film, The Finest Hours. It will tell the true story of a daring 1952 coast guard rescue of 84 men off Cape Cod after two oil tankers collided and were torn in half by waves during a fierce blizzard. Craig Gillespie is also in talks to direct the project. He's the director of films such as Fright Night and Million Dollar Arm.

This really is an incredible and heroic story, and I think it will make for an amazing film. This is a perfect project for Pine to take on. It's easy to imagine him in a movie like this. The film will be an adaptation of a book with the same name, and here's the synopsis:

In the winter of 1952, New England was battered by the most brutal nor'easter in years. As the weather wreaked havoc on land, »

Mondo Marvel Superhero Portraits by Mike Mitchell

18 April 2014 1:00 PM, PDT

Mondo has released a set of Marvel superhero portraits created by artist Mike Mitchell. These are part of a comics-themed show taking place at the Mondo Gallery in Austin, TX. The artist had this to say about his illustrations and what he wants to portray in them:

"My love for Marvel Comics was an integral part of growing up. Not just the comics, but the action figures, video games and cartoons. My intention with this show was to take those characters out of their action-oriented world and give them a moment of silence to catch their breath. There's a humanizing quality to that which I find extremely interesting. This has easily been the most ambitious project I've ever taken on, and it's due in part to my love for their universe; which is fictional by definition, but real in my mind and in the minds of others."

They turned out beautifully. »

The Raid Remake Will Focus on America's DEA Task Force

18 April 2014 12:30 PM, PDT

I really hate that The Raid is going to be remade. There's no way it's going to be as good as the original, so seriously… what's the point? The director of The Expendables 3, Patrick Hughes, is the guy who will adapt the film for American audiences, and in a recent interview with Comingsoon he discused his take on the insane action film, calling it "Interesting."

"We have a really, really interesting take on that film. One thing, obviously the original just blew my mind and I was fortunate enough to catch up with Gareth Evans in La at the premiere of The Raid 2. The thing that blew my mind with that film was the aesthetics and the fight sequences but also the simplicity of the premise, and there's so much you can do with that. So our take on it is really interesting and I feel like if »

Animated Superman Flies Through His 75 Year History

18 April 2014 12:00 PM, PDT

This animated tribute to the Man of Steel actually almost brought a tear to my eye. It's just so damn beautiful. Director Zack Snyder, animation producer Bruce Timm, and Jay Oliva teamed up to bring this Superman awesomeness to life. I thought this thing was more entertaining than Snyder's Man of Steel. This was included on the Man of Steel Blu-Ray,but is now online for everyone to see, so enjoy!

Trailer for Clint Eastwood's Jersey Boys

18 April 2014 11:30 AM, PDT

Clint Eastwood is an amazing director, and his latest project is a big screen adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Jersey Boys. It's definitely a very different kind of project for the director, but it looks like he did a great job bringing this story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons to life. For those of you not familiar with these guys, we have a trailer for you to check out, and you're sure to recognize the classic songs in the film.

The film tells the story of four young men from the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey who came together to form the iconic 1960s group The Four Seasons. The story of their trials and triumphs are accompanied by the songs that influenced a generation, including “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Dawn,” “Rag Doll,” “Bye Bye Baby,” “Who Loves You, »

The Flash — Cancelled Game Combat Footage

18 April 2014 11:00 AM, PDT

Comic Book Movie's NailBiter111 got ahold of game footage from a cancelled The Flash video game. The video features an early test to figure out how the combat might work. Greg Miller, lead designer on the game, sent Cbm the footage and the following statement.

Miller on the game:

This was a very early test of the direction we were thinking of taking running combat. We were shooting for the old school feel of the “Road Rash” series where you could punch and pummel your opponent until you got him to wipe out. Our main difference was that you could assign a controller button to an opponent and this would allow you to bounce back and forth between multiple running foes. The bad guys were going to be Cadmus experiments into super speed who would terrorize Flash from time to time when he raced across the long city expressways. This »

Star Wars "What If" Art by Tony Warne — Vader Redeemed

18 April 2014 10:00 AM, PDT

Artist Tony Warne, aka Jedi-Art-Trick, has created a lot of Star Wars art. We are featuring just a few pieces today, and the most interesting one he's simply titled "Leia and Vader," but as you can see, the art doesn't fit any canon storyline.

Warne had this to say about the piece:

This was just me really wanting to paint a redeemed (yet still alive) Darth Vader and Leia wearing a white getup like Padme wore in episode 2, just for fun. The idea came from the Star Wars Infinites Return of the Jedi comic, in which Vader is actually saved by Luke and Leia and turns away from the dark side, joining the rebellion. In the last panel, he dons a completely white suit of his armor. I thought that was a neat idea, but the white armor was a bit much. I just wanted to give a little more "sith-turned-jedi" vibe from him, »

10 Greatest Gambling Scenes in Movies

18 April 2014 9:30 AM, PDT

I'm not the biggest gambler. Sure, I do it for fun every now and then when I'm passing through Vegas, and I always seem to come out ahead, but I don't want to push my lock, so I gamble sparingly. It's always fun when I do, though, and I love the adrenaline rush!

There have been some great scenes that revolve around gambling. I thought it'd be fun to point out awesome gaming scenes from ten different films. Not all of the films I pulled these scenes from revolve around gambling. This is just a collection of scenes that I've enjoyed watching over the years.

Look over the list and let us know what some of your favorite movie gambling scenes are!

Swingers

Vegas, Baby! One of my favorite scenes from Swingers is when Trent (Vince Vaughn) forces Mike (Jon Favreau) to go to Vegas to get him out of a funk. »

Realistic Series of Action Figures for Cast of The Awesomes

18 April 2014 9:00 AM, PDT

Here’s a marvelous set of custom action figures for The Awesomes by master builder Sillof. The artist was commissioned by show creators Seth Meyers and Mike Shoemaker to make the figures as gifts for the cast, which includes Meyers, Ike Barinholtz, Rashida Jones, Bill Hader, Bobby Lee, Taran Killam, Bobby Moynihan, Rachel DratchKenan Thompson, and many more. The figures are modeled after the likenesses of the cast and are perfectly blended with their characters from the show. This series makes me ache for a live action movie. Almost all of the voice cast could inhabit their characters in a live action format. Perhaps they'll take a cue from these voice actors dressed as their characters and cosplay as The Awesomes later on down the road.

I’m looking forward to the second season of The Awesomes to see the continuing adventures of Prock and his misfit gang team of superheroes. »

Orange Is The New Black Season 2 Trailer

18 April 2014 8:15 AM, PDT

"This place is bullshit!"

I recently watched the first season of Orange is the New Black, and holy shit, it was good! I didn't think I'd enjoy it which is why I waited so long to watch it, but people kept telling me… "You gotta watch it!" So I did, and I was pleasantly surprised. Now I'm going to be that guy telling you to watch it if you haven't seen it yet. The series stars Taylor Schilling as Piper Chapman, a 30-something woman serving a 15-month sentence after being convicted of abetting her drug-dealing girlfriend.

For those of you who have watched it, we have the first trailer for the second season for you to check out, and it looks like we're in for another crazy chapter in the series with the female inmates of Litchfield prison.

Season two will be released on Netflix on June 6th, 2014.

Super Mario Bros. Theme Flawlessly Played on Wine Glasses

18 April 2014 8:13 AM, PDT

Face melting metal covers of popular songs seem to be all the rage on YouTube. I’m guessing that I’m in the minority (cuz those videos get millions of views), but I can’t stand that stuff. I appreciate the musical talent those people have, I truly do, it just all sounds like video game music to me. Hopefully that helps you understand that I love that Dan Newbie took the exact opposite approach with this particular video (he does popular covers as well) and turned classic video game music into a fun and creative musical performance. Armed with 48 wine glasses, 2 pencils, 1 frying pan, and lots of tap water, Newbie bangs out the Super Mario Bros. theme with style and precision.
