What Should the New X-Files Show Focus On? Old Plots or New Ones?

With the X-Files returning to TV for a six-episode run, what should the revived series focus on? Should they take the opportunity to wrap up existing, unresolved plots like the alien colonization, or should it shy away from the convoluted mythology in hopes of bringing in a new generation of viewers, which could lead to higher ratings and more episodes in the future?

Longtime fans of the excellent sci-fi/supernatural/mystery TV series The X-Files, (Of which I am one) that ran from 1993-2002, are dancing in the streets due to the recent announcement that the show is coming back for a limited run. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will be reprising their roles as paranormal investigators Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, while original series creator Chris Carter is returning as the producer/showrunner. Carter stated, “I think of it as a 13-year commercial break. The good news is the »

Should Game of Thrones Keep Close To The Books Or Deviate Into Its Own Continuity?

Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have surprised fans on more than one occasion by changing the trajectories of some of the series characters from what happened to them in the literary A Song of Ice and Fire series. Some fans have complained about the changes, while others are fine with it. Should the show keep its fidelity to the original George R.R. Martin books, or is it best for the show to veer off into original territory?

Fans of the popular Game of Thrones TV franchise are divided into two camps; those who want to see what they expect to see, and those who want to be surprised.  People who have read and enjoyed George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series have definite expectations of what they want to see on the HBO show due to their knowledge of the story arcs of the characters on page. »

Is Star Trek Returning to TV?

The Latino Review says that CBS is planning to bring Star Trek back to TV. Director Bryan Singer has been suggested as a possible executive producer for the project through his Bad Hat Harry Productions.

It’s been 50 years since the first Star Trek pilot, called “The Cage”, was produced. Next year will be the official 50th anniversary of Star Trek’s network debut as a weekly series. To celebrate this auspicious anniversary, the possibility of a new Star Trek TV series is being seriously considered.

There have been five Trek shows on the small screen (not counting the animated series). The most recent Trek spin-off series, Star Trek: Enterprise, went off the air in 2005. Since then, fans have never stopped asking for a new entry in the Star Trek tele-verse. Despite the new films by Jj Abrams, which have gotten mixed reactions from old-time Trek fans, the call »

New Mortal Kombat X TV Spot Features System of A Down

27 March 2015 12:59 PM, PDT

Check out the fun TV spot for the upcoming Mortal Kombat X!

The TV spot is fun, and it really showcases how the fans are. A new Mortal Kombat? We all better go check it out!

Beyond that it doesn't really show much gameplay, just little snippets, and I don't think there is too much hidden, but I could be wrong. The trailer does feature System of a Down for music, which is neat, but has some awkward moments.

Mortal Kombat X releases on April 14th!

The History of Kojima's Struggle With Konami

27 March 2015 11:35 AM, PDT

While Kojima himself hasn’t stated too much, the idea that he is leaving Konami seems like it is all set in stone. With that send-off, it is important to look at why this is such a big deal and why fans are shocked by such an announcement. Hideo Kojima is one of my biggest inspirations as a writer of my own projects, and a big reason I continue to write, so him leaving is very impactful to me, but is it the end? For that answer I think we need to look at the very beginning….

Kojima is quite easily a super star of the video game world. He implements his own personality in his games, he has revived somewhat dead franchises, and other developers take inspiration from him. He also brought to life one of the most successful game franchises that have ever existed, Metal Gear. Yet all »

Deadpool's New Movie Costume Revealed in Best Way Possible

27 March 2015 9:17 AM, PDT

Ryan Reynolds is currently filming on the new Deadpool movie, and today he took a moment to reveal his character's outift for the movie, which should make fans of the character very, very happy.  Come inside to check it out!

The Merc with a Mouth is going to be hitting theaters next year, but eager fans who've been anticipating this movie got a special treat today when Ryan Reynolds debuted his on screen outfit on Twitter:

With great power, comes great irresponsibility. #deadpool #officialsuit @deadpoolmovie pic.twitter.com/MPM89bYz1B

Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) March 27, 2015

Frankly, this is the best way possible to reveal the suit and maintains the cheeky/irreverent tone of the titular character.  Not to mention that the suit looks pretty perfect.  It's very much the costume we've come to expect from the comics, keeping it classic while still functional for the 'real-world'.  I love it.  I »

Comic Review: Batgirl: Endgame #1

27 March 2015 9:04 AM, PDT

Batgirl: Endgame #1 is a unique little one-shot brought to us by the folks at DC Comics. Although Cameron Stewart and Brendan Fletcher are credited with writing the story, their actual work is only represented by one word bubble which contains “Phew” and some “HaHa’s” floating in the city air. It’s 20 pages of Bengal’s artwork telling the tale in gorgeously colored illustrations.

In Batgirl: Endgame #1, there’s a mob of Jokerized madmen in Gotham City. They’re determined to spread the virus into the world beyond. The crazed crowd is going to have to get past Batgirl first!

Entitled “The Battle for Burnside,” the one-shot is a fine example of the art of telling a story through the use of images and not narrative. It makes for a contemporary and youthful experience by using cell phone emoticons, computers, signage, and texting. The whole book is a reflection of »

Interview: Director / Writer Lowell Dean About 'WolfCop'

27 March 2015 8:51 AM, PDT

Writer / Director Lowell Dean has a varied roster of television shows and movies he’s helmed since his career kicked off in 2006. Not content to simply stay within one genre, he’s used his talents on everything from reality and documentary series to horror films. Wolfcop is his latest release and it will please fans that are always up for some gore and horrifyingly ridiculous fun.

I had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Dean about his time making Wolfcop. He shared what viewers can expect from the film and the challenges faced when creating a sophisticated piece of independent cinema. Even though it’s his written word, I’m pretty sure his sense of humor will resonate through this interview.

How did you get involved in WolfCop?

The idea for WolfCop popped into my brain when I was working on a different script. The character was so funny, weird, »

First Trailer for Antoine Fuqua's Southpaw Hits Hard

27 March 2015 8:38 AM, PDT

The first trailer for Southpaw, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, is here with a punch right to your emotions that will almost instantly engage you in this movie.  Come inside to check it out.

To be honest, when you look at it on paper, there's a lot of cliche things going on in the Southpaw movie.  Famous boxer, hot wife, loses it all, has to start back to basics with a hardnose coach, win child's affection back, and have one last fight with his biggest opponent to set everything back to rights.  Cliche right?  But just watch this trailer and see how none of that matters and makes this film look like an absolute must-see:

From acclaimed director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) and starring Academy Award® nominated Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, Brokeback Mountain) comes a story of tragedy, loss and the painful road to redemption… Billy “The Great” Hope (Gyllenhaal) is the reigning »

Interview: Ambyr Childers for Vices

27 March 2015 8:36 AM, PDT

Actress Ambyr Childers is quickly making a name for herself in different genres on television and in movies. Since taking her first job in the BBC comedy series S Club 7 in L.A., she's moved on to bigger opportunities like a role in the popular long-running American soap All My Children and supporting characters in The Master, Gangster Squad, 2 Guns, and several others. With Vice, Childers re-enters the world of science fiction she first dabbled with in the award-winning 2011 independent film Love.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Ms. Childers about her work on Vice. She shared her experiences working with Bruce Willis and tells readers what to expect from the movie. Childers also expands on her role of Kelly the "Artificial" and takes us behind the scenes of the making of the film.

How did you get involved in Vice?

Donnie Yen Beats Everyone In the First Trailer for Kung Fu Killer

26 March 2015 1:05 PM, PDT

There's a new martial arts flick coming out starring Donnie Yen...and if that sentence doesn't get you excited, then you haven't watched the incredible Ip Man movies.  He's a slick martial artist and his fight scenes in movies are pretty spectacular, which you can get a hint of thanks to the first trailer for his new movie, Kung Fu Killer! Come inside to check it out!

Admittedly, being a long time martial artist myself, I'm a sucker for these kung fu movies.  While realism mostly goes out the window, on the whole, they're still a lot of fun and feature great fight scenes and moves.  Donnie Yen is one of the biggest names in the genre right now (though not in Hollywood circles), and there's good reason for that.  If you haven't seen his previous films (especially the Ip Man movies), then you're missing out.  But you can at »

A Star Wars Book Character is Jumping From Page to Screen (Exclusive)

26 March 2015 11:00 AM, PDT

The Lucasfilm story group is hard at work keeping all elements of the new Star Wars properties in line as the franchise moves forward.  While we've only seen snippets so far of their plans, the galaxy far, far away will soon be a lot more connected.  As part of this, it sounds like one of the new book characters will be jumping from page to screen.  Come inside to learn more!

Earlier this week, we reported on the current status of an impending Star Wars live-action TV show, and made brief mention of a character from a book who could potentially appear in the series (though I'm not sure in what capacity it would be in).  Today, I'm going to expound on that a little more and hopefully make a couple things really clear.

Last November, Lucasfilm kicked off the new Star Wars canon, and since then we've had a »

Ben Mendelsohn Possibly Joining the Cast of Star Wars: Rogue One

26 March 2015 6:28 AM, PDT

As production gears up to begin on Gareth Edwards' Star Wars film, Rogue One, we're starting to hear more rumors about casting (other than the already confirmed Felicity Jones).  As of last night, it appears as thought Ben Mendelsohn has been added to the cast.  Come inside to learn more!

Technically speaking, this is all rumor at this point, but considering it's coming from the same trades that broke the news about Felicity Jones starring in Rogue One (which was officially announced a little later), I think it's safe to put this in the "news" category than straight up rumor.  The initial word comes from Deadline who reports:

Word is that Ben Mendelsohn is circling a lead role alongside Felicity Jones in Rogue One, the Star Wars spinoff to be directed by Gareth Edwards. If Mendelsohn isn’t on your radar, he ought to be. The Aussie actor has »

Our Favorite Films From SXSW

25 March 2015 6:16 PM, PDT

Kelly and Aaron both had the chance to go to SXSW this year and cover it for Cinelinx, here's their top movie recommendations that they had the chance to see and you need to see once they're released.

Kelly's SXSW Top 3

1. The Final Girls

This film took me by surprise, in all honestly I was debating on not going but decided last minute to see it and I am glad I did. I was expecting it to be it a little entertaining because it does have an all star comedy cast including Adam Devine and Thomas Middleditch but i was blown away. With hilarious diagloue and a great meta storyline about modern day teens getting stuck in a 1980's sleep away camp horror, be sure to keep this one on your radar for it's release date. It's one of the most original movie concepts I have seen in a long time, »

A Guide to SXSW.

25 March 2015 5:35 PM, PDT

SXSW has passed but it was my first year and I had the time of my life. I know festivals can be pretty intimidating though, especially if it's your first time going to a large one like SXSW. In order to help you out, I wrote a mini guide to the festival if you happen to go next year. Keep in mind though, this is for the movie weekend as I didn't go to the music weekend.

1. Plan out to see the movies you want to see.

I believe everyone gets two free express passes a day. These guys are very important as you don't want to waste your entire time at the fest in lines. Express passes let you show up like 30 minutes before showtime and you get seated first. Catch is, you have to wake up early to get these. Many in-demand movies sell out of the express passes at 9:30-10amish. »

Steven Spielberg Will Helm Ready Player One Adaptation

25 March 2015 12:49 PM, PDT

Warner Bros. has been trying to get an adaptation of Ready Player One off the ground for a little bit, and most recently Christopher Nolan was rumored to be taking the property by the helm, but it looks like master filmmaker Steven Spielberg will be taking over instead.  Come inside for the full story!

Well this is some unexpected, yet incredibly awesome, news!  Ernest Cline's popular book, Ready Player One, has been practically begging for a movie adaptation since it's release, and for a while now, Warner Bros. has been trying to make that happen.  Today, the project took one big step closer to happening as Deadline reports WB have hired Steven Spielberg to direct the film:

Steven Spielberg is set to direct Ready Player One, the highly anticipated project based on the popular sci-fi book by Ernest Cline that takes place in a virtual world. What a coup for Warner Bros, »

25 March 2015 9:58 AM, PDT

With today marking the exact one-year point away from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Zack Snyder and WB have given fans a glimpse at the iconic villain Lex Luthor, in his new incarnation.  Come inside to check it out!

If Batman V Superman is anything less than gold the realm of DC/Comic Book Fandom will explode. You take the achingly high Batman expectations laid by Nolan’s trilogy, and set it against perhaps the most iconic Super Hero ever (Superman, if I really must say), and you set yourself up for either infinite glory, or just as infinite reputation destruction. It also goes without saying that eager fans will eat up any revealing details you can throw at them.

So today we have some good munchies for the fans, the first images of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, appropriately shaved clean and with a menacing look (Provided by »
