Ten Terrible Movie Taglines

Good movies tend to have solid taglines. Bad movies almost always have questionable taglines. Coincidence?

Taglines may not be the most important component of a film’s advertising, but having a good one can be beneficial. A good tagline should be something that is memorable, catchy, informative of the films’ plot or tone, and unique. Consider the tagline from Alien, “In space no one will hear you scream,” or Jurassic Park, “An adventure 65 million years in the making.” At other times, movie taglines have been famous quotes from the film. Examples are “One ring to rule them all,” from Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films, or “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy,” from The Shining. Simply put, having a solid movie tagline is worth the effort.

This is a look at a few films where the effort was clearly lacking or misplaced. Sometimes they are trying too hard. »

Geek Pick of the Week: The Physics of Star Wars

21 November 2017 7:34 AM, PST

Star Wars takes place in a galaxy far, far away with technology we can only dream about. While the science hasn't always been the most realistic, a new book takes a look at the physics behind the fiction and how we're closer than ever to seeing these things become a reality, and it's our Geek Pick of the Week.

It's a fact of life, that just about everyone (fan or not) has at one point imagined what it would be like to have a Lightsaber of their own, and for years, many have puzzled over how it could potentially work in our world rather than just the big screen.  Ever thought about how much energy it would actually take to destroy a planet like the Death Star?  While the new movies (and novels) have talked about it more, the full science behind it is kind of staggering.

These, and many more, »

Valkyria Chronicles 4 Arrives Next Year to Return the Franchise to Its Roots

21 November 2017 6:52 AM, PST

Sega has announced a brand new entry in the Valkyria Chronicles, which will bring the franchise back to its tactical RPG roots, will arrive next year on all modern consoles, including the Switch!  Come inside to check out the debut trailer and details on the upcoming story!

If you weren't exactly thrilled with the action spinoff Valkyra Revolution, (which takes place in the same world, but diverges greatly in terms of gameplay), you'll be happy to know the hybrid turn-based/shooting tactical gameplay is making a return.  It's been nearly a decade since the third main entry in the franchise, but next year will see the launch of Valkyria Chronicles 4; diving players back into the wartorn alternate history with a brand new squad and story.

I can't begin to tell you how excited I am.  I love strategy games, and missed out on the franchise until it's HD remaster on the PS4 last year. »

CW Crossover Event full trailer is here

20 November 2017 12:21 PM, PST

Once again the CW Dctv crossover event is upon us, And with it a trailer. Before we view the trailer let’s get to the meat of all this crossover madness.

So we start out with the fact that the wedding of Iris and Barry is finally here. Happiness, love and some tears are shared all around, but being that this is the DC universe we have to have our curveball thrown in at some point. The curveball that we will get are the denizens Earth X.

Earth X is a place where the Nazis won WWII and lets just say things are bad in this world. The superheroes we know now are part of a group called The New Reichsmen. In the comics this group consisted of Overman (Superman), Brunhilde (Wonder Woman), Leatherwing (Batman), Bltzen (Flash), Martian (Martian Manhunter) & Underwaterman (Aquaman). As far as the TV shows go, other than Flash, »

Marvel Strike Force Teaser Shows Off a Cool Looking Mobile Game

20 November 2017 11:11 AM, PST

Teasers for games can be hit or miss with cinematics being confused for actual gameplay. But when I see something that says actual gameplay, and it looks good, well you have my attention now.

Well that looks alright there. I think my main draw is the designs seem to combine the comic and movie looks. I'm hoping that there's a costume selection cause I'll admit I like some movie designs over comic ones and vice versa. Now there's not a lot of info for the release but we're looking to change that. Official synopsis reads as follows.

"Coming in 2018, Marvel Strike Force tasks players to recruit squads of Marvel’s greatest Super Heroes and Super Villains to battle it out on mobile devices. Marvel Strike Force is the first title from FoxNext Games’ new mobile game studio in Los Angeles, comprised of former members of mobile entertainment company Kabam.

An all new Total War Saga series is coming

20 November 2017 10:36 AM, PST

Creative Assembly and Sega are teaming up once more to bring us an all new game, Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia. Thrones of Britannia is a new historical strategy game and first title in a new Total War Saga series from the company. Check out the announce video below:

This stand-alone game takes us to 878 Ad, where the Viking Invasion of Britain is over. The Norse warlords are firmly established, but the ambitious kings of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales have aspirations of their own – not least the great King Alfred of Wessex. Britannia is a furnace of possibilities, from which the template for modern Britain will be forged, across the most detailed Total War campaign map ever made.

Series director Mike Simpson had this to say about the game:

"Our aim with Total War Sagas is to explore key flashpoints at distinct places and times in history. Unlike our era-spanning titles, »

New Trailer for Disney's A Wrinkle in Time

20 November 2017 10:14 AM, PST

Be a hero warrior in the first trailer from visionary director Ava DuVernay, Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time.

This weekend during the American Music Awards, Disney released their first trailer for adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle book of the same name, A Wrinkle in Time. The story follows a young girl who along with her brother and classmate go on an interdimensional adventure in search of her father.  Check out the trailer below:

First off, the visuals are absolutely stunning. This film looks beautiful.  It will be very interesting to see what Ava DuVernay, who is best known for her Oscar Nominated film Selma can bring to a big budget studio film. She knows very well how to tell a story, and from the first look of A Wrinkle in Time, it looks like she can bring the visuals.

Along with the trailer, Disney released four new images which you can check out below. »

New Puzzle Fighter Game Being Released for Mobile

20 November 2017 10:08 AM, PST

One of my all time favorite games is coming out this week for mobile and I can’t wait.

I will admit that the thought of combining bejeweled and Street Fighter was completely ridiculous to me at the time when I first heard it. I thought “That looks stupid, and I’m not gonna play.” And then I started playing it, and I was hooked. I love puzzle games so why wouldn’t I want chibi versions of my favorite Street Fighter characters battling each other, each one dependent on my actions to succeed in battle. Well an all new version is coming out later this week so watch the app stores for when it hits. Updated versions of a multitude of fighters from all the best Capcom games Like Ryu, Ken or Chun-Li (Street Fighter), X (Mega Man), Morrigan (Darkstalkers), Frank West (Dead Rising), Dante (Devil May Cry), Haggar (Final Fight) etc. »
