To remind you, Bill Maher told Jay Leno he’d give $5 million to the charities of Donald Trump’s choice if the Celebrity Apprentice host could prove he wasn’t “the spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan”. In the breach of contract lawsuit (Donald Trump Acts Like Horse’s Ass Again) filed in La Superior Court, Trump claims he accepted Maher’s bet in writing the next day and provided his birth certificate – so now The Donald wants the cash for five charities. Maher responded on his HBO show Real Time Friday night: »

9 February 2013 12:46 PM, PST

You could call her the Queen of the Dead. Walking Dead executive producer Gale Anne Hurd has been with the AMC zombie apocalypse show from the very beginning, through its behind the scenes up and downs and its record breaking ratings results this past year. After a more than two-month break, The Walking Dead is back Sunday for eight more episodes of its third season. Hurd spoke with Deadline about the show’s return, the sudden exit last year of showrunner Glen Mazzara and how Dead comic creator and show Ep Robert Kirkman feels about the detours the series takes from the comics. The seasoned producer also talks about the possibility of a Walking Dead movie and the similarities between her show and its fellow Sunday night airer Downton Abbey. Ratings Rat Race: ‘Touch’ Returns Down, ‘The Job’ Debuts Low, ‘CSI:ny’ & ‘Nikita’ Match Highs, ‘Last Man Standing’ Up

9 February 2013 9:31 AM, PST

It was no staid Friday last night on television with two premieres and originals across all the networks. Fox’s night was dominated by the two-hour return of Touch (1.0/3). Moved from Thursdays to Friday, the twice-pushed season two premiere of the Kiefer Sutherland thriller drama was down 70% from its formal season one premiere on March 22, 2012. Pulling in 3.77 million viewers last night, Touch was also down 23% from the 1.3/4 of the series’ season one finale on May 31, 2012. Last night’s sophomore debut was actually not a series low for Touch as it bested by 43% the 0.7 of the show’s last original, which Fox aired September 14, 2012. All those Touch numbers need a bit of context however. Unlike its season one premiere, Touch does not have the benefit this year of American Idol as a lead-in to its 9 Pm airing. Touch will settle into its regular one-hour 9 Pm slot, following Kitchen Nightmare, next week. »

NBC’s Drama Pilot ‘Wonderland’ To Shoot Off-Cycle

8 February 2013 7:37 PM, PST

I’ve learned that NBC has pushed Wonderland, its drama pilot set in the world of Lewis Carroll’s Alice In Wonderland that is executive produced by CSI creator Anthony Zuiker. The project, written by feature scribe Whit Anderson, will not be produced within the regular pilot season because of the scale and complexity of the production, including visual effects. I hear the pilot probably will start filming before the end of pilot season but will likely not be delivered before summer. Wonderland was a late pickup — it was greenlighted on Jan. 29 — and had to undergo a studio switch after ABC Studios pulled out and Universal TV took over. (The pilot’s high price tag was among ABC Studios’ reasons to bail as it is producing another expensive fairytale drama series with elaborate shoots and special effects, ABC’s Once Upon A Time.)  Speaking of Once Upon A Time, it »

NBC’s ’1600 Penn’ Pulled For One Week

8 February 2013 5:13 PM, PST

Do No Harm will not be the only NBC Thursday midseason series Mia next week. Fellow low-rated newcomer 1600 Penn will be benched next Thursday for a new Office. I hear the move was prompted by The Office Valentine Day episode, which NBC brass loved. It came in supersized, so a decision was made to expand it into two back-to-back originals. For now the plan is for 1600 Penn to return the following Thursday, Feb. 21. 1600 Penn is coming off a series low 1.1 18-49 rating last night, down 15% from its previous original. It served as a lead-in to Do No Harm (0.7), which got the axe earlier this afternoon. »
