Spider-Man and Men in Black III Start Dates

Both getting underway before the end of the year

ComingSoon.net/SuperHeroHype has learned that the Marc Webb-directed Untitled Spider-Man Project will start shooting in December in Los Angeles. We've received no word yet whether Sony's Columbia Pictures will also film in New York. Andrew Garfield stars in the July 3, 2012 release, produced by Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad.

The studio's Men in Black III, however, is scheduled for filming in New York starting in September. Barry Sonnenfeld is directing the May 25, 2012 release, starring Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin and Jemaine Clement.

Robert Rodriguez in Talks for Deadpool?

Is the director of Sin City ready for Ryan Reynolds' "Merc with a Mouth"?

The rumors have been bubbling under for the past few weeks about whether director Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) might be called upon to direct Deadpool, the planned spin-off from last year's X-Men Origins: Wolverine with Ryan Reynolds reprising the role of the "Merc with a Mouth" he played in that movie.

Last week at Comic-Con, Rodriguez was asked by MTV about the project and he confirmed he had received the script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland) but wasn't sure if he would direct or not.

Just one week later and the L.A. Times is reporting that Rodriguez is now in active negotiations to direct the movie and that it would likely happen after he finishes Spy Kids 4: Armageddon, which he's currently shooting for release next year. Rodriguez does have a lot »

Lore Heads from Comics to Film

The Idw series is planned for a feature by the writer of Priest

Idw's comic book series Lore is planned for a film adaptation reports Heat Vision.

Cory Goodman (Priest) and Jeremy Lott are attached to draft the screenplay for Producers Andrew Lazar (Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore and Jonah Hex) and Rick Jacobs.

The series, created by T.P. Louise and Ashley Wood, is described by Idw with the following logline.

In times past, the world was full of mythical creatures°Vlong since held at bay by the secret society of Shepherds. But when the Shepherds' line of succession is broken, a reluctant hero finds her life threatened from every quarter. And the creatures are coming back: will the Earth be ready for their return?

Lore ran five issues between 2003 and 2004. »

Exclusive: First Look at Katee Sackhoff's Versus

Co-creators Katee Sackhoff and Sxv'Leithan Essex have given SuperHeroHype an exclusive look at the character design for Versus, their genetically-created antichrist wrapped in a Vargas girl's body.

Plans were to announce Versus at Comic-Con this year. So what happened? "Things got really crazy for the both of us with a few other projects which unfortunately took time away from Versus," says Sackhoff. "We wanted Versus to have an impact at Comic-Con and had some very visual ideas to make her seen but time became the enemy and we don't want her to get lost in the mix."

First Image of Super's Crimson Bolt

James Gunn has officially released the first image of his superhero character, the Crimson Bolt, from the upcoming Super on his official website, JamesGunn.com.

Super offers Gunn's take on the superhero genre and stars Rainn Wilson as an average guy who takes on the pseudo-superhero alter ego of the Crimson Bolt, after watching his wife (Liv Tyler) fall under the spell of a charming drug dealer (Kevin Bacon).

Mark Ruffalo on Playing Bruce Banner in The Avengers

The big climax of this weekend's Marvel Studios presentation at San Diego Comic-Con was Robert Downey Jr. introducing the new members joining Joss Whedon's The Avengers including Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo as the new Bruce Banner a.k.a. The Incredible Hulk

After the event, Jeff Jensen at Entertainment Weekly had a chance to talk to Ruffalo about taking over the role, and here's what he had to say about the recent revelation:

"It was very exciting — and I realized I had some pretty big shoes to fill. Those were my heroes up there! I was a comic book fan growing up. I loved The Hulk and The Avengers — it’s just strange to be entering that world as an actor. I never would have imagined that before."

Sdcc: The Marvel Studios Panel! (2nd Update)

Newly updated with official video from the event!

ComingSoon.net/SuperHeroHype is back in Hall H at Comic-Con for the Marvel Studios presentation for Kenneth Branagh's Thor, Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger and the just-announced Joss Whedon-helmed The Avengers. We'll be live blogging the event so stay tuned and keep refreshing as we add more information.

The panel is set to start in a few minutes. While you're waiting, Marvel Studios just launched Assemble.Marvel.com, the official site for The Avengers which features the new logo. 

Although the focus of the panel will clearly be on Thor, we hear that there may be some teaser footage of Captain America. We were handed 3D glasses which makes us think that some or all of the footage will in fact be in 3D.

The crowd is starting to get impatient... the earlier delay due to the stabbing didn't help. »

Crosshair Moves to Film

Mandeville Films will adapt the upcoming Top Cow comic book series

Mandeville Films will begin work on adapting Top Cow's upcoming comic book series, Crosshair into a feature film, the studio announced today.

The series, created by Marc Silvestri, written by Jeff Katz and illustrated by Silverstri and Allan Jefferson "follows a former CIA assassin turned suburban superdad who faces his most dangerous enemy ever - himself. Justin Weller learns that he has 48 hours until a suppressed program in his brain will turn him into an unstoppable killing machine aimed at the President of the United States. Weller races against the clock to uncover and reverse the source of his trigger."

The first issue of Crosshair is scheduled for release this October.

Thor: The Video Game Teaser Trailer

On the heels of San Diego’s Comic-Con last week, Sega has made available the teaser trailer for the recently announced title,"Thor: The Video Game," that was on display at the convention.

 

Coming next year to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii and Nintendo DS, this 3rd person action adventure boasts an original storyline exclusive to the video game, for which Matt Fraction, lead "Thor" comic book author, served as story consultant.

Edi Gathegi Playing Darwin in X-Men: First Class

Edi Gathegi, who played the vampire Laurent in Twilight and The Twilight Saga: New Moon, is joining X-Men: First Class in the role of Darwin, reports Deadline New York. Darwin has the power of "reactive evolution," which allows him to adapt to any situation or environment.

He's joining a cast that includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Alice Eve, Kevin Bacon, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Caleb Landry Jones and Lucas Till. Matthew Vaughn will direct the 20th Century Fox film targeted for a June 3, 2011 release.

Eva Longoria Debunks The Wasp Rumors

Says she has not been approached to play Janet van Dyne

Eva Longoria takes the sting out of all the buzzing about her playing The Wasp in either The Avengers or Ant-Man: she told SuperHeroHype today that she has not been approached to play Janet van Dyne, but she'd might consider yelling "Avengers Assemble!" if Marvel Studios gives her a call.

"I keep hearing about that," Longoria said on the Wisteria Lane set of her TV series "Desperate Housewives." "I think it’s an Internet rumor as of now… I love comics stuff. I do, I think it's fun, but I don't know anything about that character. I don't know who or what that is."

Nick Cave Rewriting The Crow

The new adaptation of the comic

TheWrap has learned from producer Ed Pressman that Australian musician Nick Cave has been brought on board to rewrite Stephen Norrington's script for The Crow reinvention.

Based on the comic created by James O'Barr, Norrington's screenplay was set in two locations: "the southwest -- the Mexico/Arizona area -- and an urban [setting] -- Detroit or Pittsburgh or something like that."

Cave made his screenwriting debut with John Hillcoat's 1988 prison drama Ghosts … of the Civil Dead and wrote Hillcoat's The Proposition.

A 1994 adaptation, starring Brandon Lee, was directed by Alex Proyas.

Brett Ratner Acquires The Unknowns

Based on the Femme Fatales comic

 Brett Ratner's Rat Entertainment has acquired the feature film rights to "The Unknowns," the comic book from Femme Fatales Comics, reports Variety.

Ratner will produce The Unknowns, based on the comic created by Mark A. Altman (Doa: Dead Or Alive), Steve Kriozere ("NCIS") and model/actress Monica Olsen.

The story centers around Alexis Davenport, who while living a seemingly ordinary life discovers she was actually once the highly skilled and deadly leader of a mysterious team called The Unknowns and must learn the secret of why her memories were erased and by who.

No director has been tapped yet for The Unknowns.

Sdcc: G4 Announces New Marvel Anime Series

Iron Man, X-Men, Wolverine and Blade coming in 2011

G4 will be the exclusive U.S. television home of four brand-new anime series featuring some of the most successful and iconic brands from the Marvel Universe.  Produced by Madhouse for Marvel Entertainment and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan (Spej), these four original series will feature iconic characters from "Iron Man," "X-Men," "Wolverine" and "Blade" in an edgy new anime world.  These series will premiere on the network in 2011, it was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con.

Sdcc: Green Lantern Press Conference

The cast and crew on bringing the Corps to life

Shortly after unveiling footage from Green Lantern to an eager Comic-Con crowd, cast and crew gathered for a followup press conference. 

Director Martin Campbell joined Producer Donald De Line and actors Ryan Reynolds (Hal Jordan), Blake Lively (Carol Ferris), Mark Strong (Sinestro) and Peter Sarsgaard (Hector Hammond) to field questions about the big-screen origin story that sees test-pilot Hal Jordan chosen to carry the power of the Green Lanterns, an elite Corps of intergalactic police, sworn to protect the universe with special rings that have the power to physically manifest willpower. 

Q: Is  Green Lantern a hard sell for audiences simply because there's so much going on?

Sdcc: Captain America's Shield and Infinity Gauntlet From Thor

Marvel Studios had two more surprises on Sunday

As if showing Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor footage, as well as announcing The Avengers cast wasn't enough (read our write-up of the panel!), Marvel Studios also revealed the Captain America shield and the Infinity Gauntlet from Thor at the studio's booth today at the San Diego Comic-Con! Both items that were on display are the actual ones used in the two films! Throughout the week, Marvel Studios also revealed Odin's throne, the Destroyer and Thor, Loki and Odin's helmets.
