All Hail The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug Production Diary 11 Video Blog
16 hours ago
It’s like washing your car to make sure that it rains. Posting the latest from Peter Jackson and The Hobbit movies earlier today just about guaranteed that his Production Video Blog would be released just afterwards. No matter, we’re thrilled to have the next installment of Peter Jackson‘s Hobbit video blog. This is numbered 11; 1-10 were for the first Hobbit movie.
It starts out with some bad news, though: no Comic-Con panel for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Last year’s Legendary panel for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was easily one of the best of the con, so it’s particularly disappointing to do without them this year.
For details on why, and for all the good news and great visuals that follow, here you go:

As the trailers and other promos begin to trickle in for the second installment of The Hobbit trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, word is also trickling in about filming finishing up for various cast members in the third movie, The Hobbit: There and Back Again.
Here’s this from Peter Jackson‘s Facebook page:
Seconds ago we finished our last shot with Gandalf. The end of an incredible adventure that began in 1999. I’m feeling very sad right now.
Then came this:
A day after saying goodbye to Gandalf and Tauriel, it was time to farewell Legolas. What a great day it was, with Orlando battling a serious Orc for all 12 hours of shooting – part of the Battle of the 5 Armies for the third Hobbit movie. When we finally got the day done, we said goodbye to Orlando, had a couple of beers … and couldn’t resist doing this! »

Now we have to add the supposed family who inspired the story and mix it with even scarier levitation mishaps in The Conjuring. I didn’t need to sleep tonight.
