AMC Talks With 'Red' Director Robert Schwentke

12 October 2010 7:54 AM, PDT

I've been following the development of the new film "Red" ever since I first heard the graphic novel was being adapted. As the cast list grew and grew it turned from a film I was interested in into a movie I was dying to see. With the likes of Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Hellen Mirren, Karl Urban and others why wouldn't I be?

I've had a chance to watch the movie a couple of times now and I can tell you the film is just pure entertainment. I highly recommend getting out to see it.

Earlier this week I had a chance to chat with the director of the film, Robert Schwentke, about working with such a huge cast, some of the great stunts in the film and how he balanced the action with the comedy. You can watch my interview with him below:

Never Before Seen Footage Of Eric Stoltz As Marty In 'Back To The Future'

12 October 2010 7:54 AM, PDT

Some of my favorite Hollywood stories revolve around iconic roles that almost had other actors play them instead of the faces we've come to identify them with. For example, Tom Selleck was originally cast to play Indiana Jones before he had to turn it down and the part got given to Harrison Ford. Will Smith was originally supposed to be Neo in "The Matrix" before he decided to turn it down to appear in "Wild Wild West" instead.

And did you know that actor Eric Stoltz was Marty McFly in "Back To The Future" and even shot the film for 5 weeks before director Rob Zemeckis decided to replace him with Michael J. Fox and start over? Wild isn't it?

Well, as many of you already know AMC Theatres is brining "Back To The Future" to the big screen one more time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the film (You »

Liev Schreiber Is A 'Goon'

12 October 2010 7:54 AM, PDT

Liev Schreiber, known mostly for his role as Sabretooth in the Wolverine movie, will be starring in the Seann William Scott indie comedy “Goon”.

Schreiber will play hockey tough guy Ross Reardon and will be starring with Jay Baruchel and Alison Pill. The movie was written Jay Baruchel and longtime Apatow camp writing partner Evan Goldberg. This is a project Seann has talked about for quite some time so it will be interesting to see how this comedy comes together.

The Flash & Green Lantern 2 Scripts To Be Finished By Christmas

11 October 2010 7:54 AM, PDT

The super hero movie business is booming with Marvel already planning out their slate of films and Warner Brothers getting their DC brand going. Green Lantern is currently in the editing bay, Zack Snyder is going to work on the new Superman film and they're already prepping for The Flash.

Deadline has the exclusive on The Flash script getting finished just in time for the holidays:

I've just learned that the latest script for the Dc Comics character The Flash will be handed into Warner Bros between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green are writing the draft, and Greg Berlanti did the story with them. No word on who'll direct The Flash yet, but I can tell you it's doubtful it'll be Berlanti, even though his very different Life As We Know It came in #2 at the box office for the studio this weekend.

David Arquette Talks 'Scream 4' At Screamfest

11 October 2010 7:54 AM, PDT

David Arquette talked to reporters about the highly anticipated fourth addition to the "Scream" franchise at the opening of Screamfest in Los Angeles on Friday night. He was enthusiastic about the film, saying that it was the best in the series. He also indicated that the film may be the first in the franchise to get a subtitle. The full title would be: "Scream 4: Return to Woodsboro."

The title makes sense; it establishes that the film will be returning to its roots after a jaunt in college and a trip to Los Angeles. It also stokes the nostalgia of "Scream" fans, something that movie marketers love to do.

I loved the original "Scream." The film was funny, clever, surprising and a tribute to the horror genre, filled with inside jokes that were lighthearted and fully accessible to all audiences. I very much look forward to the “return to Woodsboro. »

Pacino and Mamet Team Up On Spector Biopic

11 October 2010 7:54 AM, PDT

The life of legendary music producer Phil Spector is a clear choice for a biopic. In the years between 1960 and 1965 alone he produced over 25 Top 40 hits. He has worked with a laundry list of iconic artists from The Beatles, to The Ramones, to Tina Turner.

In a strange and tragic turn in a “larger than life” life story, Spector was convicted of the 2003 murder of actress Lana Clarkson last year.

HBO Films is developing a film based on Spector’s life, though it is unclear which aspects of his life the film will focus on; his early music career, or his recent murder conviction. One would imagine it would cover both; perhaps taking place in a courtroom setting with flashbacks to various periods in his life and career.

Al Pacino will star as Spector with Barry Levinson writing and David Mamet slated to direct.

Bradley Cooper Rumored To Play 'The Flash'

11 October 2010 7:54 AM, PDT

With The Flash quickly moving forward over at Warner Brothers and a script being handed in before the holidays, there are still a few questions fans have about the super hero movie.

One of those questions is, "Who will be playing The Flash?" Moviehole is reporting that Bradley Cooper, who is currently in Canada filming the sequel to The Hangover, could be the front runner for the part. Bradley did screen test for the role of Green Lantern, but that part ended up going to Ryan Reynolds.

Bradley Cooper has a good relationship with Warner Brothers so it will be interesting to see if he does test for the part. What do you guys think? Is Bradley Cooper a good fit for The Flash?

Martin Freeman Negotiating To Play Bilbo Baggins In ‘The Hobbit’

11 October 2010 7:54 AM, PDT

Rumors abound where “The Hobbit” is concerned. Audiences crave any news that indicates that production is moving forward on the film. Unfortunately, the “one step forward, two steps back” pattern that has been associated with the film seems to be continuing.

Casting news comes amidst reports today that “The Hobbit” is in danger of going into what Peter Jackson refers to as “bankruptcy hell.”

On a more optimistic front, Martin Freeman of “The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy” continues to be the front runner to play Bilbo Baggins in the film. He originally had to turn the role down due to scheduling conflicts with his BBC series “Sherlock”. The production and Mr. Freeman’s team are doing all they can to make the schedule work. With so much uncertainty still surrounding the production, scheduling seems a bit premature. One can only hope that by the time cameras roll, Mr. Freeman will be available, »

‘Zoolander 2’ Includes Roles For Will Ferrell and Jonah Hill

11 October 2010 7:54 AM, PDT

Will Ferrell’s villain Mugatu will make a return in “Zoolander 2”, if the script is shot as currently written. Writers Justin Theroux and Ben Stiller have included his character in the film and have added additional villain friends for him to play with, including one inspired by actor Johan Hill.

Theroux told MTV news that the script opens with its heros "Zoolander" (Stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson) “in a pretty bad place." They are no longer the top models they once were, he continued, they are  "about to ring (the) 40's bell” and “have to claw their way back into the fashion industry in some way or another."

A return to the original characters with an infusion of fresh comedy blood sounds like it could equal a hilariously satisfying sequel.

Adrien Brody Talks ‘Predators’ Sequel

11 October 2010 7:54 AM, PDT

Predators” was enough of a box office success to get 20th Century Fox interested in pursuing a sequel to the film. The sequel, as imagined thus far, would call for a return of Adrien Brody’s character.

The actor spoke to MTV News about the film:

“I think the goal initially was to make a film that is worthy of [a franchise],” Brody said. “The film is even structured that way… to kick in for another one. I’d be excited. I’d be excited to do it. I think that was part of the allure.”

He went on to talk about a possible cameo appearance from the original lead in the series Arnold Schwarzenegger:

“I was hoping he would be in this film,” Brody said. “It would have been great. I really was hoping.” As you may have guessed, Schwarzenegger was a bit busy being governor of California, so that never happened. »

Rooney Mara In ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’

11 October 2010 7:54 AM, PDT

Rooney Mara gave a standout performance with very little screen time recently in David Fincher’s “The Social Network.” The director is making full use of the actress’s talent in the upcoming film “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.”

The film is shooting in Sweden with Fincher, Mara and 007 himself, Daniel Craig.

Images became available today of Mara in costume as her character, Lisbeth.

Take a look at the images below:

The powerhouse of talent behind the film bodes well for the remake of the Swedish original.
