Name That Movie: Musicals Edition

16 August 2012 3:05 AM, PDT

Whitney Houston makes her final film performance in this week's Sparkle, a musical that features the vocal stylings of Jordin Sparks as a young singer. It reminded me of how much I love a good movie musical, so I thought I'd test how well you know them too with this week's Name That Movie. See if you can identify the song-filled films that these images are from. Question 1 of 5Name that movie: Chicago Nine Burlesque Cabaret »

Kate Hudson Shows Off Sexy Dance Moves on the Glee Set

15 August 2012 9:50 AM, PDT

Glee creator Ryan Murphy shared a sexy photo of Kate Hudson dancing on set yesterday. He's been snapping pictures of the show's stars in preparation for the Sept. 13 season premiere. Last month, Ryan showed Kate posing with Lea Michele while they were in character, adding, "Ms. Lea Michele and Kate Hudson on the Nyada set. Kate had chandelier approval." Kate is guest starring in six episodes during Glee's fourth season. She'll be playing Cassandra July, Rachel's dance teacher at her new performing arts school. Another A-list star to join the cast this year is Sarah Jessica Parker. She's portraying a Vogue editor, and was recently spotted meeting up with the actual Vogue editor in chief, Anna Wintour, in NYC. View Slideshow › »

Buzz Lines: What's Your Favorite Quote From The Wizard of Oz?

15 August 2012 3:05 AM, PDT

The Wizard of Oz is over 70 years old, but the classic film has proved to be a pop-culture mainstay - thanks in part to some truly unforgettable lines. Whether you've seen the movie once or 100 times, I'm willing to bet there are some quotes (or lyrics!) that have stayed with you, so check out my favorites and then provide your own in the comments. "I'll get you, my pretty. And your little dog, too!" - The Wicked Witch of the West "Are you a good witch or a bad witch?" - Glinda "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain." - The Wizard of Oz Photo courtesy of MGM »

For Ellen Trailer: Paul Dano Gets to Know His Young Daughter

14 August 2012 1:03 PM, PDT

Though he's only in his 20s, Paul Dano has already shown that he has acting talent to spare. In the indie For Ellen, he's exhibiting his skills once again, but with a new angle. As Joby Taylor, he plays the kind of character we haven't really seen him as yet: a young father. Joby is a musician who's spent so much time on the road that he's missed out on quality time with his 6-year-old daughter, Ellen. He's newly motivated to make contact with her when his estranged wife files for divorce - and full custody of Ellen. Unsure he wants to give up his rights, Joby travels to see Ellen and reconnect with the little girl. For Ellen opened at Sundance, and it seems like the kind of sensitive indie you'd expect to see at the festival; even with just the few moments in the preview, it's affecting. I »

Pilot Scoop: Guys With Kids

14 August 2012 5:30 AM, PDT

Jimmy Fallon's already got his own talk show on NBC, but now he's adding to his plate the role of executive producer for the network's new comedy Guys With Kids. The title of the series pretty much sums it up, as the show follows three dudes and their families. Check out my pilot review to see if the sitcom is up your alley. What it's about: Three guys who are at different places in their relationships tackle the woes of fatherhood together. There's Chris (Jesse Bradford), a newly divorced father of one; Nick (Zach Cregger), a father of two who's struggling to keep his kids and wife (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) happy; and Gary (Anthony Anderson), who's got a boatload of kids and not nearly enough alone time with his wife (Tempestt Bledsoe). Where it works: The guys are all cute, and the bromance that exists between them feels genuine. Where »

True Blood Bites: "Gone, Gone, Gone"

13 August 2012 10:59 AM, PDT

It's one vampire death after another on this week's True Blood, as the Tru Blood shortage starts to wreak havoc on Bon Temps and beyond. Seriously, I can't remember the last time there was such an abundance of vampire guts across the board, from Sookie's foyer to Fangtasia and a few stops in between. It makes the episode's title all the more relevant, but the biggest loss isn't a death, as Hoyt drops a major bomb on Jessica and Jason. With only a couple of episodes left, things are reaching a fever pitch: Russell and Steve share some intimate moments (thanks in part to Katy Perry), Sookie gets one step closer to finding out the truth about her parents, and Jessica gets tangled up in the wacky world of the Vampire Authority. Let's get into it when you read more. Comment most deserving of an "Amen": Sookie tells Steve »
