Key & Peele deliver Pro Edition of East/West Bowl

Ahead of their Super Bowl special airing Jan. 30 at 10pm Et/Pt on Comedy Central, Key and Peele have released a Pro Edition of their popular East/West Bowl sketch, which traditionally has fun at the expense of the unusual names among some college football players. This time, Key and Peele portray a variety of fictional pro players with hilarious names, mannerisms and ways of speaking. Here, though, there are even a couple of real-life NFLers thrown into the mix, whose names were apparently too good to leave out, including Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, D’Brickashaw Ferguson and Aaron Rodgers (?). (Rodgers introduces … Continue reading →

Preview: Super Bowl Xlix Commercials

Super Bowl Xlix is less than a week away, and we’re already seeing some of the big-budget ads that will play during the big game. Each 30-second spot costs advertisers $4.5 million, so it’s no wonder that companies try to get a little more bang our of their advertising buck by getting eyeballs on their messages prior to gameday. Releasing commercials prior to the game also allows advertisers to create a longer message than the pricy 30-second spots that will air on Super Bowl Sunday. As commercials become available, we’ll post them here.  And check back on Monday, Feb. 2, for … Continue reading →

Bob Fisher on Sirens Season 2

27 January 2015 11:35 AM, PST

In September, I, along with a few other writers, had the chance to visit the Chicago set of USA Network’s hit comedy series Sirens, which follows the professional and personal lives of three EMTs in the Windy City. (The set is not far from where Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. are shot, and during chats with cast members of Sirens, they said sometimes the various casts get together for softball games and other fun.) Before watching the filming of a scene, we toured the set, which included a newly built hospital set for the second season (visits to the hospital … Continue reading →

The Bachelor: Episode 4 recap: Bachelor virgins are revealed

27 January 2015 6:16 AM, PST

Full moon, full craziness,” serves as the most accurate statement ever made about Episode 4 of The Bachelor, which could have been easily titled “The Bachelor Virgins Episode.” Things got pretty wild this week with Prince Farming (Chris Soules) and his group of potential wives. The first date card calls for the girls to “do what feels natural,” and six lucky ladies are called to meet Chris on his outdoorsy date. The girls meet Chris at a lake, or as Kelsey, the whiner, calls it, “a mucky pond,” where some of the daring few opt to jump around topless. So … Continue reading →

Branson Famous episode 5 recap: The Brangelina of Branson

26 January 2015 7:35 PM, PST

Tonight’s episode of Branson Famous, “The Brangelina of Branson,” could be alternately titled, “Megan Loves Blush.” Seriously, you guys, what even is going on here? More on that later. The show starts with Patty and Tim talking in the car about how something is holding Brandon up from proposing to Megan, and Patty denies it’s her. (Reality check, Patty: It’s you. Actually, it’s probably not really you, but Brandon and Megan think it is, when in fact it’s probably them. There’s a whole psychological thing going on here, but I lack the credentials to diagnose this further, so I’ll just … Continue reading →

Katia Winter says Sleepy Hollow Season 2 has “been a little manic”

26 January 2015 5:00 PM, PST

Some Sleepy Hollow fans have, to a degree, been disappointed by the direction Season 2 has been going, especially regarding the relationship between Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) and his wife, Katrina (Katia Winter), with some fans preferring to see something happen between Ichabod and his modern-day partner Abbie (Nichole Beharie) rather than wait for Ichabod to help Katrina get acclimated to the 21st century, which has come complete with courting each other anew via modern dating rituals. Don’t worry, fans; Katia Winter has heard your concerns and, to some extent, shares them, but thinks it all should work out by season’s end. “It’s … Continue reading →

Rokerthon is back, with a special Blizzard 2015 edition

26 January 2015 1:20 PM, PST

The Northeast is gearing up for what sounds like it may be a truly epic snowstorm (possibly among the largest in New York City history, as an example of its potential). Needless to say, media outlets are practically drooling over the idea of covering this latest “snowpocalypse” (The Weather Channel has named the winter storm Juno, even though few other news outlets use its naming conventions). NBC News is one of the outlets gearing up for cross-plaform coverage, including a digital redux of last year’s popular “Rokerthon,” which featured Al Roker setting a Guinness World Record for the longest uninterrupted … Continue reading →

Misery for all: Downton Abbey Season 5, Episode 4 recap

25 January 2015 7:00 PM, PST

With the exception of the final scene, which offers a ray of hope, this is one depressing episode of Downton Abbey. Everyone is mired in individual misery, and some plot points look as if the characters will have to suffer quite a bit more. For a handsome man, Thomas Barrow (Rob James-Collier) had been looking ghastly. His color was bad, and during a servants’ lunch he mentioned he had to visit his dying father. The story sounded mendacious, but who would question this? Later, Baxter (Raquel Cassidy) finds him, sick, and espies his drug paraphernalia. Wretched because he is gay … Continue reading →
