Next Iron Chef going all-stars; Chopped will leave its studio; Margaret Cho hosts dinner parties
30 March 2012 6:12 AM, PDT
Food Network announced a bunch of new and returning shows for the next year, including confirming changes to Food Network Star (the show is adding mentors and tribes) and revealing that season four of Next Iron Chef will be an all-star season, bringing back previous contestants of the same series. That makes sense, because its contestants are pretty high-caliber chefs, and it's not as easy to find full casts for a new season. Also, the »

CBS edited out racial remark on Survivor, Jeff Probst inadvertently reveals
29 March 2012 7:07 AM, PDT
A comment made by Survivor One World cast member Tarzan, whose real name is Greg Smith, was apparently edited to remove a reference to fellow contestant Jonas Otsuji's race. About midway through the episode, 64-year-old plastic surgeon Tarzan had a fight with 37-year-old sushi chef Jonas. Tarzan said, "I do not like Jonas. I do not like that guy any more," and then a moment later, as he's walking away from the camera and bending »

Survivor drops its balls and some dead weight
29 March 2012 6:56 AM, PDT
Between the four combinations of two tribes we've had over seven episodes and the increasing stupidity of those who are left, I feel like I'm the stupid one when I watch what's unfolding on Survivor One World sometimes. Who's in what alliance? Who is that? Let's start with how many twits there are, like Jay, who basically turned into a third grader scolding a puppy when Tarzan tried to have some coffee. "No! No! You »

Unfair reactions to Bravo's terrible new shows
28 March 2012 8:19 PM, PDT
Before their upfront presentation to advertisers, Bravo announced seven new shows that they called an "aggressive development slate"--and collectively, they seem like aggressively awful shows. I'm judging, of course, based on a few dozen words in a press release, and that's it, so of course I'm being ridiculously unfair. These shows might end up being more inescapably compelling Bravo television, and I'm unashamedly a Bravo addict. But if there's anything I've learned from Bravo, it's »

Will Colton Cumbie return to Survivor? Jeff Probst has a surprising answer
28 March 2012 12:20 PM, PDT
Will Colton Cumbie return for a future season of Survivor? That seems like a rhetorical question, because his return seems inevitable: He's a hated villain but a strong strategist, he left because of something outside of his control, he's awful, et cetera. But host and executive producer Jeff Probst, who has a say in these matters, has a surprising response: Colton won't be back. "Russell you bring back. Colton, I don't think you do. I »

Start of filming on Survivor 25 confirmed
27 March 2012 8:26 PM, PDT
The start of production on season 25 of Survivor has been confirmed by local media in Caramoan, where it's being filmed. Camarines Sur's governor told abs-cbnNEWS, "It's a really big production but I cannot (give more details) because I signed a confidentiality agreement. It's is being filmed right now and it's going to air in September," L. Ray Villafuerte told abs-cbnNEWS.com on Tuesday. That's pretty definitive confirmation that this is the CBS, U.S. production--and a »

Lifetime's daily sex reality show won't show sex
27 March 2012 6:14 PM, PDT
A new Lifetime reality series will feature couples who have sex daily for a week in order to try to repair their relationships, but 7 Days of Sex apparently won't show us what happens in their bedrooms. Lifetime's announcement said that "the program follows the emotional journey wives and husbands take together when they leave the cameras behind the closed door to explore their own sexual intuition, imagination and creativity and have sex with each »

Food Network's Restaurant Stakeout: as fake and staged as it seems
27 March 2012 9:07 AM, PDT
Food Nework's latest reality show, Restaurant Stakeout, is anything but real, which is no surprise to anyone who has watched it. I have no idea why Food Network, which has some strong reality TV--Chopped, Next Food Network Star--actually airs crap like this show and Cupcake Wars. It's embarrassing. Restaurant Stakeout takes the restaurant makeover show and flips the equation by having the entire episode focus on the observation of the restaurant's staff to discover its »

Jersey Combat is not, alas, a fight to the death between New Jersey reality show contestants
27 March 2012 7:41 AM, PDT
National Geographic Channel announced a new series called Jersey Combat, and that sounds like it has a lot of potential: There are way too many reality shows now set in New Jersey, thanks to Jersey Shore and The Real Housewives of New Jersey, so having them fight each other seems like a natural evolution. Sadly, Jersey Combat is just a documentary series that focuses on the people who run "the world's largest military warehouse," which »

Maria Menounos broke ribs on Derek Hough's hardness
26 March 2012 3:34 PM, PDT
Dancing with the Stars 14 contestant Maria Menounos has two broken ribs that were injured when they came into contact with her partner Derek Hough, but she will perform tonight anyway. Yesterday, Page Six quoted a source who says "she has been in excruciating pain for the past few weeks during rehearsals, but she is staying strong and working through it. She refuses to give up." Maria confirmed she is injured but blew it off. »

Whale Wars spin-off subtitled Viking Shores; go behind the scenes in Playboy before it debuts
26 March 2012 7:15 AM, PDT
The spin-off of Whale Wars that follows Sea Shepherd's actions last summer in the Faroe Islands will debut next month, and has been given the subtitle "Viking Shores," perhaps because the name of its setting, the Faroe Islands, isn't as sexy or well-known as Vikings are. (Vikings once colonized the 18-island nation, which is between Iceland and Norway.) The network has ordered five episodes of the spin-off, and the regular series will continue later this »

Camille Grammer out of Real Housewives
25 March 2012 6:28 PM, PDT
Camille Grammer has confirmed that she won't be on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for its third season. While reports said she didn't want to "expose her personal life any more," Camille herself said it was actually because she couldn't come to an agreement with the show's producers, which presumably means over money and/or contract stipulations. "I can't say too much at this moment, but we couldn't get it worked out. I love these »
