'Sons of Anarchy' creator Kurt Sutter has something to say about Google's stance on copyright
3 hours ago
As the creator of Sons of Anarchy, Kurt Sutter has made a name for himself as a master of bringing to light the gritty, dangerous and fascinating underbelly of society. That, and he’s known as one of the most outspoken men in Hollywood. So it’s no surprise to see that he has taken a strong stance against Google’s position on copyright issues in a passionate essay published Friday on Slate.
Sutter’s article is a response to the March 10 story, “Hollywood’s Copyright Lobbyists Are Like Exes Who Won’t Give Up.” That post — written by Marvin Ammori, »

Prince releases full-length 'New Girl' song featuring Zooey Deschanel -- Video
6 hours ago
We first fell for Prince’s duet with Zooey Deschanel, “FALLINLOVE2NITE,” when they performed a portion of the song on the actresses’ Fox comedy, New Girl, back in February. (We’re guessing the 25.8 million other people who also watched the post-Super Bowl episode did, too.)
The Purple One’s perfectly understated guest role was a gift for fans, but now he has delivered the icing on the cake: On Friday, Prince’s “funk ‘n’ roll” band, 3Rdeyegirl, tweeted out the link to the full-length track. The soundtrack to the rest of your weekend can be found here: »

Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs defend Lindsay Lohan's '2 Broke Girls' performance
7 hours ago
So it turns out all of those rumors about Lindsay Lohan being a nightmare to work with on the set of 2 Broke Girls were just that — rumors.
Stars Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs took to Twitter on Friday to refute claims that guest star Lohan was a disaster and repeatedly screwed up her lines during a taping on Wednesday. The reports stemmed from an unimpressed witness who claimed: ” are very familiar with every single one of Lindsay Lohan’s lines and can repeat them all verbatim to you because we heard them so many times last night. There is not »

Harry Potter readers, some travel dreams can come true. Apparating may be but a fantasy, but now you can finally ride the Hogwarts Express.

'Orange Is the New Black' at PaleyFest: Five things we learned from the panel
8 hours ago
The Dolby Theatre stage was filled with a beautifully eclectic group of women when the cast of Netflix’s critically acclaimed series Orange Is the New Black sat down for their first PaleyFest panel. Well, it was almost all women. Joining creator Jenji Kohan and stars Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon, and Natasha Lyonne, among others, were two of the men of the series: Jason Biggs and Michael Harney. However, the talk of the night mainly focused on the diversity of the show and the bond the cast mates have outside of their prison set. From the amount of giggling that went on throughout the night, »

How the 'Veronica Mars' movie made me switch from Team Logan to Team Piz
9 hours ago
[Warning: We'll be discussing major spoilers and plot points from the Veronica Mars movie. Proceed with caution.]
A dude with the name Stosh Piznarski was never going to have an easy time.
As a season 3 addition to the Veronica Mars universe, Chris Lowell played the sarcastic, manic radio host whom we all came to know as “Piz,” and it was fine. He was fine. He didn’t inspire, but he didn’t harm either. He just existed. It was college and Wallace (Percy Daggs III) needed a roommate. Why not make him part of the gang? We didn’t even blame him when he fell for Veronica (Kristen Bell) — because, really, who wouldn’t? He was like »

Entertainment Geekly: Does modern TV fandom actually make it harder to understand TV shows?
14 March 2014 3:00 PM, PDT
Entertainment Geekly is a weekly column that examines pop culture through a geek lens and simultaneously examines contemporary geek culture through a pop lens. So many lenses! This week there are two columns inspired by True Detective, partially because True Detective was a thought-provoking TV show which deserves a significant amount of thoughtful analysis, but mainly because I missed a column last week. Yesterday: A consideration of where the show’s ending fits into the pantheon. Today: A meditation on the show’s meaning, or lack thereof. Spoilers follow.
At the end of True Detective’s second episode, philosophizing detective »

'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' premiere: Crossover is the word
14 March 2014 1:21 PM, PDT
You’re in my world, now I’m in yours. Crossing over among movies in the world of Marvel seems to be as easy as slicing through a jet plane with your super strong shield.
The much-anticipated premiere of Captain America: The Winter Solider in Hollywood Thursday at the El Captain Theatre came with the blocking of streets, the screaming of fans and a nearly complete turn out of the cast. (Only Robert Redford was absent) But we’re hoping we’ll see him again, in another Marvel franchise, and until then, here are five crossover flashes direct from the red carpet. »

Stars reveal their criminally underrated entertainment picks
14 March 2014 10:00 AM, PDT
Everyone — stars included — has that one show or movie they believe hasn’t received the attention it deserves. EW asked some celebrities, ranging from director John Waters to actress Allison Janney, what shows or movies they think are criminally underrated. Here’s what they said:
“Bruno Dumont’s movies, which are all long, depressing, French art movies about farmers and the earth and misery [such as Humanité]. I love a feel-bad movie. I hate to feel good at a theater. There is such honesty in the pain he puts on screen.”

How the Disney princess story might be different if Sheryl Sandberg steps in
14 March 2014 9:35 AM, PDT
Earlier this week, media circles were buzzing when Anne Sweeney announced she was leaving her position as co-chair of Disney Media Networks and president of Disney/ABC Television Group. After 18 years at the company, Sweeney is now going to pursue her dream of becoming a director.
Dubbed “Hollywood’s most powerful woman” by The Hollywood Reporter, Sweeney’s exit nearly immediately incited speculation regarding her successor. Whomever Disney CEO Robert Iger taps next will be handed an immense task: overseeing ABC’s broadcast programming and Disney’s cable slate, and matching — or topping — the impressive $2.6 billion in profits Sweeney helped »

'Titanfall' review: Game takes shooter genre in new directions
14 March 2014 7:58 AM, PDT
“Standby for Titanfall” is the most exciting thing you’ll hear in gaming right now. Roughly two minutes into each match in the futuristic first-person shooter Titanfall (Xbox One, PC), you’ll gain the ability to call in your very own megaton mech, which rockets in with explosive power and disruptive force. Titanfall is doing the same thing to the stagnant shooter genre.
Would we expect anything less from Jason West and Vince Zampella, creators of the mega-billion dollar Call of Duty franchise? They set the tone for how modern warfare looks, feels and plays. After their acrimonious split with »

14 March 2014 7:41 AM, PDT
Hipsters, beware — music festival-goers are becoming a favorite target of Jimmy Kimmel.
In front of an audience at SXSW in Austin last night — Jimmy Kimmel Live has been taping from the festival since Monday — the late-night host noted that “people who come to music festivals pride themselves on knowing who the new acts are, even if they don’t know who the new acts are.” To prove his point, Kimmel sent a “Lie Witness News” camera crew into the streets of Austin to ask music fans their thoughts on totally made up artists, including Contact Dermatitis, Neil Patrick Harassment, female rappers Heavy Flow, »

'Veronica Mars' at PaleyFest: Logan and Veronica weren't always meant to be, and 5 more revelations
13 March 2014 11:44 PM, PDT
When Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas and star Kristen Bell unveiled their Kickstarter campaign last year, it wasn’t just the fans who were on the edge of the seat to see if a movie would be made. Some castmembers from the prematurely canceled TV series were on the edge of their seats too — to see if their characters would make the cut.

'Reign' react: Thrust into darkness
13 March 2014 9:51 PM, PDT
You guys, the King just humped a woman out of a window! He literally humped someone to their death. That just happened, and I don’t know how to feel about it. Honestly, that was the second greatest hump I’ve ever seen, behind this one. Now, let me attempt to write this react through my tears of laughter.
The episode started with Mary and Francis returning from their two-month honeymoon. Look, I get that being royal is cool because you’re rich and you get to have all these fancy parties, but I’ve never wanted to be royal until this moment. »
