It’s a cookbook! – or actually, a drink recipe book, and it will be available in August. Ordering information can be found Here

Let’S Get Monster Smashed by Jon and Marc Chaiet is a horror movie-inspired cocktail book with gross-looking but delicious party drinks, all wrapped up in an awesome ’80s VHS package. There are 55 recipes spread across 5 chapters (shots, gelatin, punches, special fx, and non-alcoholic) inspired by classic pulp horror movies of the ’80s and ’90s, complete with viewing recommendations. Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets is writer/director Luc Besson’s latest sci-fi action/adventure film, starring Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne as a team of special agents wisecracking and flirting their way through danger as they race to unravel the puzzle of what or who is threatening to destroy the interstellar city of Alpha. The film also stars Clive Owen, Ethan Hawk and singer Rihanna.

Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets is spectacular visually, with one fabulous, colorful, fantastical vision after another, and the film completely delivers on that level.

The 3D action/adventure film is based on a French sci-fi graphic novel series, “Valerian and Laureline,” or just “Valerian.” The long-running comic series, »

The Journey- Review

20 July 2017 9:37 PM, PDT

The following review was originally posted on June 15, 2017. The Journey opens everywhere and screens exclusively in the St. Louis area at Landmark’s Plaza Frontenac Cinemas

Is it possible to whittle away at an “unmovable rock” in the political arena? Especially when there’s a 40 year history of bloody conflict forming an unbreakable shell around that formidable boulder? Well, how about forcing him into a trip with his enemy? That’s just what happens in this new film, in which its makers wish to be a “fly on the wall” during a remarkable day that changed the course of a country. It’s a “what if” look at a seminal time just 11 years ago when two opposing leaders try to find common ground during The Journey.

The year is 2006, and “the troubles” have rocked Ireland for over four decades. British Prime Minister Tony Blair (Toby Stephens) has organized a political »

Dunkirk – Review

20 July 2017 8:21 PM, PDT

Sometimes when you have been through hell and back, there isn’t anything you can say to properly convey the emotions and the experience. Without saying much, Christopher Nolan tries to express the raw emotions of war by dropping the viewer into the scenario as opposed to explaining the how and the why of the situation. Because at the end of the day, the brave soldiers at the frontlines aren’t given a suitable reason or explanation to justify possible death. Their instincts kick in and they have to fight to survive.

Dunkirk is an emotional experiment forcing the viewer to connect with characters with little backstory or dialogue. In fact, the majority of the film is soldiers silently fighting towards a way out. The importance of time is crucial – so much so that the film opens with information placing how long each of the storylines takes place. Nolan and »

Girls Trip – Review

20 July 2017 5:06 PM, PDT

Like many road trips, Girls Trip starts off with great promise, only to devolve into a series of questionable decisions. To be fair though, Girls Trip isn’t aimed at me. While I’d like to think I have a pretty good bead on what’s funny and what isn’t, this grumpy old white dude may not be the best judge of a comedy aimed at black women. However, if I were to base my decision on how funny a film is on the reaction of the screening audience, then it’s safe to say the target audience is going to eat this up. Girls Trip is uneven and goes on too long, but it has a better-than-average laugh-per-minute ratio with some of its best jokes true belly-busters.

Instead of a wedding to reunite old friends like its spiritual predecessors The Hangover and Bridesmaids, Girls Trip offers up a »

18 July 2017 4:22 PM, PDT

Gabe screens Tuesday, July 20th at 5:00pm at the Tivoli Theater (6350 Delmar Blvd, St. Louis) as part of this year’s St. Louis Filmmaker’s Showcase. Ticket information can be found Here

Review by Stephen Tronicek

Documentaries, just like any other movie, can be based some way things that just emotionally work. You really can’t explain why, or how they work, but they do. Something just inspires you, something just feels right. That is what Gabe feels like. As a documentary, one could easily call it somewhat conventional, but the material at the center and the filmmaking of the enterprise creates what might be one of the most entertaining and inspiring documentaries of the year.

Gabe follows a few years in the life of Gabriel Isaac Weil, a young man with a rare form of muscular dystrophy, who is attempting to experience the world as he can. Gabe, »
